  1. Burley we have the same ideas. On Monday I went to dicks and bought up 10 rapala deep xraps, and shad raps. I got 20% off then another 10% (group discount) then 10$ off 50 or more. I am the professional bargain shopper.
  2. The only pro I have met was Gerald Swindle. He is a funny, cool character. He even poked fun at his temper, the DQ, and the UMF instances. He told me I smelled my booty, and hennessee... how can you not love that.
  3. Really good info from you two! I have been wondering what is the best way to get a reaction strike with a jig? Do you guys switch between small profile and large profile a lot?
  4. When fishing a Jig what techniques work best for you in the following sitiuations. Grass, Long tapering point, steep drop, rock flats In grass I like to pitch it out jiggle it a bit until I am sure it is on the bottom then just wiggle it for a while bring it up do it again. Long tapering points I like to drag the jigs. Steep drops I just try to let it roll down or drag it. Rock flats I drag it as well. I know a lot of people pop the jigs or hop them. I just want to see what everyone likes to do.
  5. Mr. Newton's laws probably had something to do with it. III. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
  6. Here are some threads about books http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196124069/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186429249/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1186466676/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1178114685/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1147522796/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1131943031/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1101831726/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1111114541/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1111100502/0 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1102524482/0 If thats not enough here are my top suggestions: 1. 7. I thought nitrification caused high acidity. This is my major I should really know this..
  8. Be sure to read the rules and regulations of the tournament. I know most of the smaller tournaments I was in each boater needed like a 100,000 insurance policy. Just read up on the rules and regs before going to the tournament. Also that I am in you need your life jacket on when the boat is running. Those are just two general common guidelines. If it is a trolling motor lake you wont have a problem. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  9. I have every box but the jig box I love them all. The crankbait boxes are so skinny. They are awesome no tangles, no wasting time. The spinnerbait box is also very convenient. Overall if you have the money this system is top notch. I found the V12 bag with 10 boxes in the bargain cave at cabelas for $40. You cant beat that! ;D
  10. I keep a log with the Date, Temp, Time of day, Weather, Water Clarity, Depth, Structure, Cover, Techniques, Lure, Total # caught, Total Keepers Caught, Largest Bass Caught. Best thing to do is keep a log... in my opinion. You can start to piece together why those fish hit your colorado bladed black spinnerbait in that muddy water over grass when it was windy and so on. I have only a handful of fish logged but in the future it will be very useful.
  11. Tony I know what you mean I have seen water like that. I don't know what your river looks like but if you hit the holes it should be a little bit slower. One option that might help is a rapala. If it is deep use the rapala countdown sinking CD-7 if shallow use the floating one. Another big thing is position. I like to get in the position where I can just let the riffle rip on my baits and just let it stay in one place in front of possible fish. Then work it back up current slowly. I used to get tons of trout by just letting it swim in the current stationary. Good luck don't let high miserable water keep you from fishing!
  12. Mobydick.... those help those who help themselves (or something like that) . Hopefully I dont come off as a jerk but I see your from Central PA. I live in Central PA and I can tell you a handful of clubs that come to mind. I drive an hour and a half to my club meetings. Last week I drove through 2 inches of snow to get there and back. Clubs just didnt come to me and try to persuade me into joining. I had to make call after call and research the clubs and make a point to drive to the meetings and come up with the cash to join. http://pabass.com/ <-- Go to that site snoop around. After you are done looking around get in contact with me through PM. I will try to help you the best I can. One guy who helped me and was the first one I talked to when I had no clue about anything was Zel. He put me on the right track.
  13. Wow Zel... now that's dedication. CJ and Zel you both have interesting stories. I am sure I will have a couple after this year. Hopefully not to the extent of either of yours. They were truly hilarious!
  14. Wow CJ you made quite an entrance into the world of tournament fishing. That is awesome! Hopefully May 10th I can do the same on the Potomac!
  15. I am sure we all have interesting stories on how we got hooked on tournament fishing. Me personally a family friend of mine was a professional fisherman for multiple years and I have always fished so I went to a local lunker tournament with him. I didn't weigh a fish that tournament but ever since I got that rush of the tournament I have been hooked. Now I am really just trying to learn and expand my knowledge on fishing. This year I plan on fishing over 30 tournaments and gaining experience hoping to be a "threat" in local tournaments in the next couple years.
  16. Dont wait for the water to clear up, you should fish the muddy water. I have caught some of my biggest trout in muddy water. Most streams have some monster native trout and they will see you WAY before you see them. In muddy water they will be much easier to catch they feel secure. Two methods I use which work amazing are a gold bladed roostertail and nightcrawler with a little heavier weight then usual. Nightcrawlers absolutely slay trout in muddy water. Work the current with your spinners. Good luck if you have other questions let me know.
  17. I am in the same boat as you are crewman. I have about 30 some tournaments this year to go to. Hopefully I am not too over my head. I joined a bass club, a college bass club, and the BFL. With the bass club do your homework. I found that many of the clubs in my area only fished one or two lakes and a handful of tournaments. The one I chose has 17 club tournaments, 4 buddy tournaments, and 10 weeknight tournaments. The college club I am in is fishing two big tournaments this year and two or three small club tournaments. The BFL is fairly pricey $100 a tournament and the price of food/gas/boater money/hotel. My advice is do your research on local bass clubs and the BFL. Do some searching on google for your state. There should be a state bass site with club information. You can write a post in the bass club section and I am 100% sure that someone in your area will help you! Good luck enjoy the ride!!!
  18. Discover Card, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, and my personal favorite Cabelas Card! Enjoy!
  19. Here are a few good pranks.. I have seen a couple first hand. 1. After your roommate goes to sleep take plastic wrap and plastic wrap your toilet bowl under the seat. Works in dorms too! 2. (works best if your in a suite or apartment) After your roommate is passed out due to extreme exhaustion (i.e drunkeness). Take everything on his side of the room.. and yes this includes his TV/computer/jackets/wallet/electronics.. EVERYTHING and put it in the bathroom. He will wake up surprised. 3. (freezer required) Take every pair of your roomates underwear soak them, put them in a plastic bag, put in the freezer. 4. One I have not tried yet but have heard some stories. Take a big garbage can or something that can hold a lot of water. Buy packs of dixie cups and when your roommate is again "Extremely exhausted" fill up each little dixie cup and cover every flat surface in his room especially the floor and desk. You need to cover every flat surface so he cant jump around the room. He has to spill the cups or drink them making a path. One question what is one of the first things you do when you wake up in the morning? The first 3 have been field tested and do indeed work well! The 4th is for when you feel creative! Enjoy! ;D
  20. I see your from central PA. I go to Penn State where is there open water!? I am going crazy everything is frozen. Maybe we can meet up one of these days and hit the water.

That is a good story for down the road lol. I fish mauch chunk B dock is the only launch right muddy? I am laughing at the fact that they thought they needed practice on that ramp. It is just a one boat ramp its not steep and has plenty of space to pull up back down. The shallow water at the dock has made me angry plenty of times. I don't know how people get their bass boats in. My 15ft lowe is even a pain in the butt due to the shallows.
  22. Good information everyone! A couple questions though. I use the left hand retrieve and the only ratio in the Revo S, SX, and STX is 6.4:1. I never really paid attention to ratios but is 6.4:1 the general stand by? Would the high speed reel be used for flipping/pitching/cranking/spinnerbait/buzzbait? Are any of the Revo's setup specifically for something such as plastics, jigs, or spinnerbaits? I mean for an example (MADE UP) the SX is better designed for plastics then the STX which is for crankbaits. Another thing; I didn't really have the Revo S in mind, but could you guys go in depth more about the Revo S? Is it a good real, how does it compare to the other revos? Thanks in advance!
  23. I have been checking out the posts everyone has been making and the past posts about Revo's. I am looking into buying the Revo STX or the Revo SX. I have been reading a lot about the brake problems with the Revo SX. I am somewhat new to baitcasting and I wanted to see your opinions and further elaborations on the Revo's. I have a Shimano Citica and I do well with that reel. I was curious to see how much harder the Revo's are to control in comparison to a Citica.
  24. I bought the v12 with a variety of boxes for plastics, terminal, cranks, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, etc... I got it for $40 out of the bargain cave. what a deal! I really like the v12 and the tackle system as a whole. I would recommend getting the v6 or the v12!
  25. Aw.. a bullmastiff... if that dog went overboard GOOD LUCK pulling him back in..Might as well try to yank a 6 foot man on board.
