  1. Gar, I am speaking about jigging in general. Any lake, any time of year. I am pretty good with a wide varity of lures and presentations, all which I hope to et better with. Using a jig in general, is just hard for me. ajr
  2. That's good advice. I think one way is to ONLY take jigs out for a few trips, forcing myself to get used to using them, and hopefully, picking up a feel for them. ajr
  3. Hey all, I have had a great fishing season and have only one complaint.... I still have not mastered the jig. Heck, mastered, I have a heck of a time with them!!! I don't know what I am doing wrong. Perhaps I don't give jigging enough time, or I'm just not patient enough. I have read many posts here from members who feel the same. way. My fishing buddy watches me, and says, You're doing it right." But no luck. He thinks I am "over thinking" it. I have heard people say, "It's not really that hard." I don't know what to think any more. Lots of people give me advice (use a SMALLER jig, trailer/no trailer, get the color right, etc.) Could it be that I, and alot of other members are just over thinking it?? I know that to be successful, you have to be a good all around angler and that's what I am trying to do. What do you folks have to say?? :-/ ajr
  4. Keep your head down and thanks to you, and all the guys and gals in the military. If it wasn't for you, NONE of us would be bass fishing!!! Peace and be careful!! ajr
  5. I have been noticing this lately too. It must have to do with them putting on the feedbag for the up-coming winter. Their lips are red and their bellys FAT!!!! ajr
  6. Hey all... I am thinking about buying one of the above reels. Anyone with any experience, advice, or comments on these reels, please chime in. Thanks, Alan (bassnajr)
  7. Yes Tin.....you are the O.A.Y.M.
  8. Very well put senile1.... You are wise beyond your years!!!! ajr
  9. Tony...BAD!!!!! ;D
  10. Thank you JF....you cleared up any questions I had. Good info!!!! ajr
  11. Tungsten is denser then lead...but not as dense as you..... ;D
  12. I think you are splitting hairs...I I should have been specific and said "TUNGSTEN" I have heard it refered to as tungsten steel. But I am not a chemist.....sounds like you are. I just fish.......
  13. If I'm wrong, so are the makers of Tru Tungsten. Go to their website. Tungsten is denser than lead.
  14. From the Tru Tungsten web site: "Using tungsten weights with your Texas-rigged worm will give you the bottom contact advantage, and using the Tru-Tungsten® weights when you're flipping will enable you to penetrate thick cover with a weight that is much smaller in size than the lead counterpart." And from an article about the new Tru Tungsten jig head...."Tungsten's higher density vs. lead means it can have the same weight with less material. That makes a huge difference when you're trying to make a finesses presentation in skinny water. So I guess I was right..........
  15. Check out Simon's link...for those prices, you can't get hurt. I have started using Tru Tungsten because the weights are smaller than lead weights.
  16. Thanks for the link Simon...I am always looking for a way to keep fiishing costs down!!!! ajr
  17. Hey all... I am becoming a real swimnait junkie lately......I picked up some 3:16 swimbaits in 5" Natural Shad color. I like the look of the bait, but with the hurricane/tropical storm coming this way, I didn't get a chance to use them today. Anyone else use these regularly?? How's your success rate?? Curious... ajr
  18. I'm in if/when this gets re-scheduled. Big boats or little boats? Also, I need a Mass. license, don't I? P.S. I think a broad definition of "swimbait" is in order? Let's get an opinion from the guy who came up with the idea??? Alan
  19. I used the the Real Magic today on 8lb. Yozuri hybrid. I sprayed it on the spooled line about an hour before I went out...very windy day. I used this light line with light soft plastics (worms/lizards), senkos, and a small rattle trap to test a range of applications. I had no wind knots or birds nests...line was very manageable. Knots tied were tight, no breaks. Caught several fish...they didn't seem to ming the Real Magic on the line. If KVD L+L is better than this, I will be getting a bottle to have my own test trials. Thanks for all the USEFUL information guys. Alan
  20. Thanks Glenn, You learn more from being wrong than thinking you are always right!!! I'll grab some next time I'm at BPS. ajr
  21. Gottcha.....I'll keep watching for a possible re-schedule!!
