boy how the bite can turn
I have been using spinning gear alot as well. I haven't changed the size of the plastics (I stay with the 7" Power Worm) but I am fishing as slow as the spring time. I cast a tube bait out the other day, was fiddiling with something on my boat, went back 20-30 seconds later, and there was a fish on!! That's how slow!! Strange!! Good luck!!

boy how the bite can turn
I live in Rhode Island and we have had similar weather. Near shore, I have been grabbing smaller fish with a Power Worm near pads. Lately the bigger fish have been in about 10' of water though. Tube baits, lizards, any plastic is worth a try I guess. Not much luck with different depth cranks here (probably me lol), but you can't go wrong with a jig. I have been fishing pretty slow. the pre-spawn fish are a little funked right now. Hope this helps a little!! ajr

Best shallow water crankbaits
Hey, My vote goes for the Mann's Minus Series. The manns Minus 1 goes from one foot and up... Mann's Minus 4 goes from four foot and up.... etc. GREAT shallow cranks at a reasonable price. $4.00 and under at Dick's for example. ajr Peace

Fat IKA.....how do you rig it??? How do you fish it???
Hey, I am a fan of tube baits. I probably use them more than other plastics. I recently picked up a pack of Yamamoto Fat Ika solid tubes, i'll call them. I was just wondering what set up you folks use, and how you fish them?? ajr

An unfortunate situation....
I did the best I could with the pliers but the fish was out of the water for such a long time, I was just more worried about getting him back in. I will carry a pair of wire cutters from now on. The hook was WAY DOWN as well. ajr

An unfortunate situation....
Hey all..... I went out today with my fishing buddy and had a great day on the water except for one thing. I hooked a nice 2 lb. bass that swallowed the hook. I tried to get it out but after a while, I felt I was doing more damage then good. I cut the line, removed the plastic worm, and released the fish, hook still in. I have heard and read that this is the proper thing to do, but this is the first time I actually had to do it. The bass swam away like everything was fine, but I wonder what the odds are that the will be no problems for the fish in the future. I have heard that the hook eventually "rusts off" but...??? Any comments or views??? ajr

chain pickerel (do you eat them?)
Two breeds competeing for the same food source. The more prevalent breed grows larger. My buddy caught a 3 1/2 pound CP in this pond. Biggest I have ever seen. I have yet to catch a 3 1/2 lb. LMB out of there. I didn't mean the pickerel are eating grown bass if that's what you mean. lol

chain pickerel (do you eat them?)
They also have a tendancy to take over bass ponds. They'll eat anything (baby bass, baby pickerel, etc.). My pond is so over run with them, the average bass size is between 1 and 2 pounds. As far as I'm concerned...EAT AS MANY AS YOU CAN!!!! AJR

How many fishing rods do you have?
I USE six setups...two spinning and four baitcasters. I tried to match up each set-up with an application. (cranking, jigs, finesse, spinners, etc.) I have a few more that sit on the wall. But the Bait Monkey could grab me at any time to say, buy a reel. And then the reel needs a rod, and...well you see how it goes!!!! ;D ajr

Daiwa Reels....
I am happy with the Magforce......it gets better!!!!??? I have progressed up the line from the Procaster to the Advantage super tuned. Maybe a Steez is next if I retire this year!!!??

What casting rod/ reel is best for swimbaits??
I'm thinking of the frog rod you have...what do you think?? ajr

Daiwa Reels....
I agree...keep the spinning gear!!! I have all Daiwa baircast reels and for $50.00 the Daiwa Megaforce with twitchen bar is a great deal. It is a 7:1.1 super fast!! You can get it cheaper on E-bay if you are not in a hurry, but B.P.S. sells them as well as many other stores. Good luck!!! ajr

Is the spawn over in the Northeast or will it go on???
Hey all... I have spoken to some veteran Rhode Island Bassers who have told me they believe that the spawn may go into July. What are you folks seeing??? I have not seen to many fish still on beds, but have not gotten out a lot lately. ajr

Live well STENCH!!!! Help!!!!!
Hey all.. My fishing partner and I were in a tournament on 6-8-2008. We used both live wells during the tournament. I finally got around today to cleaning the boat out and re-organizing everything. I went to make sure that the live wells had emptied out and OH MY GOD!!! the smell almost made me puke!! I looked inside one of the wells and there were two partially digested crayfish (obviously spit up by the bass that were in the well!!) that were rancid!!! Anyone else every have anything like this happen?? How do I get the smell out?? P.S. I wish I knew that's what the were eating during the tourney!! ;D Help please!!!! ajr

Fish finder transducers...through the hull or trolling motor mount???
Then I guess I am talking about a "shoot through" mount. One that is mounted on the inside of the bottom of the boat. ajr

Fish finder transducers...through the hull or trolling motor mount???
Hey all... In general, is there a special transducer for through the hull as opposed to trolling motor mount, or can any transducer be mounted through the hull: maybe a special adapter kit required??? Thanks, ajr

A pre-summer flash back outing......back to the good times??!!
Hey all... Heading ouy today with my buddy to a small UNKNOWN (lol) pond in the woods. Taking the old Bassraider and going back to a MUCH simpler time. No outboards or glass boats. No tons of tackle (one little box each), no huge deck to cast from. Just two friends wetting a line and talking. Sometimes I wonder if we should have left it right here; when bass fishing was less complicated. Don't get me wrong, I love the big bass boat, and the big ponds (such that they are here in R.I.), But I was wondering???? Anyone else ever feel the same way? Anyone else use these kinds of trips to "re-fuel"??? Just wondering......... bassnajr

Should I or not?
Time, patience and practice...... That's how you'll know when to set the hook....but for know..RELAX and have fun fishing! Everyone starts out setting the hook on weeds, trees, etc. If you keep the rod tip half way between the water and up straight in the air, it will help in setting the hook. Good luck!!! ajr
