  1. Hey jwo... Sounds like were fishing the same ponds!! I have had sucess this past week with jerk baits in the shallow areas (rocky mostly) where the wind is blowing into these areas. I have also had sucess with large spinner baits in a little deeper water, slow retrieve. I live in New England and thought the bass hibernated in the cold weather (LOL) Despite the weather and water turnover, their still hitting well. bassinajr
  2. Hello all... Just wanted to tell of my adventure today to the BPS in Foxboro, MA in case anyone is heading there this weekend. A few things... Wow!! The store itself is beautiful!!! Design, layout, etc. Plan on spending quite a bit of time as the employees have been flown in from all over and no one knows the layout yet. They still have some folks putting on clinics every hour or so (VERY interesting) but the "BIG" names have left already. Look for the small 'SALE' signs in each aisle. There are quite a few items on sale that are not in the ad. Took me an hour and help from one of the sales people to figure this out. The signs means ALL the items in that section are on sale. No one tells you this. Prices are higher than average stores (Walmart, Dick's etc.) but hey, how many Walmarts have a huge fish tank and waterfall in them?? There are a few companies introducing new baits for 2008 at a reduced price, but you have to look for the bins . They are not in one area. I will be going back soon. My buddy wasn't feeling well so we had to leave early!! Buy of the day: A huge Plano BPS tackle box, rear of the store near the boats. $9.99 If anyone has any other questions, PM me. I'll do my best. Other than that CHARGE IT!!!!!! bassinajr
  3. Hey all.. If you wife says "I don't want to hear the words bass, bassboat, fish, or fishing ever again, I mean it....YOUR OBSESSED!!!! (lol True story..happened last night!!! I just e-mailed her a photo of me fishing yesterday to her at work...I didn't say "THE WORDS" though!!) ;D
  4. Hello all... A quick question on chain pickerel... Are they "lone wolves" or do they school at any certain times of the year I have checked the NET and no mention of this. Any help???? Thanks, bassinajr
  5. My cousin stuck with plastics all day and got blanked. I mixed it up, Rattls and spinerbaits. The 3lber hit the spinner bait.
  6. Hey Russ, My cousin and I hit Curran reservoir in Cranston. I've driven by the place a hundred times, never thought to fish it. Alan
  7. Hey all... It's Fall in New England (bet all you folks from down South are REAL jealous!!!) The leaves are falling and the air is crisp. I had asked on this forum if it was time to sit by the fire and dream of the spawn. Well I am glad I decided to KEEP FISHING!!!! 60 degrees today on November 14th!!!!!, I grabbed a three pound LMB today on a small pond in the woods, and better yet, Bass Pro Shop opens tonight in Foxboro, MA (Go Pats!!)!!!!! Thanks to all who told me to keep going (lol) LBH. My new motto: Fish 'til it's frozen!!!!!! bassinajr
  8. Hello all!! I was just wondering if anyone knows what ponds/lakes in Rhode Island hold Smallmouth bass??? I have never caught one and want to change that!!! Help me out fellow bassers!!! bassinajr
  9. Hey blanked, I have three daughters, my wife, and two female cats. I went out and bought a male dog, but he just looks at me like, "Boy..are you sc@wed!! But seriously, I took my wife golfing a few years back, a " major" violation of the G.R.G.E. (guy's rules of golf etique). It became a regular thing, and we had a blast. When I had to switch back over to fishing due to a car crash..no interest except for my 10 year old daughter. I can really see her concentrate, and the questions she asks should be posted here!! I can see her getting involved. (I'll have to talk to Strasosdad about that!!) Long point short...anyone who wants to fish with me is welcome!!! bassinajr
  10. Hello all... I have a small (100 acres) pond near my house that I fish all the time. All summer, I saw the Herrons and other water birds all over the shore of the pond. (As "they" say, look for the birds, and the bass will be nearby). In the morning and early evening large numbers of seagulls land on the pond and congregate (on the water) in very specific areas of the pond. Now the question: Are the gulls feeding on the same forage as Herrons etc. and should the bass be nearby? I think that they are flying rats, but hey, maybe seagullls have a real purpose. Answers, comments ideas????? bassinajr
  11. For what it's worth... Went to lake Tiouge in Coventry, RI today... If your still fishing, don't bother!!! Water depth at the State/Town boat ramp was about 4" unable to put the boat in. Tried a little pond in Cranston. Caught 4 small LMB and missed a nice one. Jerk baits, spinners and ratls all worked today... I think this was the last trip 25 MPH winds made the temp. feel like 30's. Froze my @$$ off. bassinajr
  12. Hello all.... Well I think winter (at least Fall) has settled into new England. Will it stay? Who knows? What was it Mark Twain said about New England weather?? Anyway I have been talking to others in the forum who bass fish in New England ALL WINTER!!! As long as there is no ice they will be out there. (January Mike?? lol) I was wondering how many other die hard bassers are out there. Is it time to light the fireplace and dream of the pre-spawn, or is it time to buy Goretex and have at it?? Opinions, comments, discussions anyone??? bassinajr
  13. Hi, Buy a gerbil, (try to get a grey/ brown/white color combo). Next get a fish tank ad paint the back blue like, um, water color. Cut out some paper or cardboard fins and gills and tape or velcro them on the gerbil. (It will look lke a small bass and be cheaper to feed and take care of lhough the mouth will look more like a smallmouth!!) Then, um,........ aw.... forget it! Just get a gold fish. No one would believe it was a fish any way!!!!! (LOL) Just teasing dude!!! Catch them bass, take a picture, and throw em back!!!! bassinajr
  14. Hello all... Any other bassers know something/ anything about this reel?? It was given to me. Looks like it might be worth something and, it's a darn nice reel!!! bassinajr
  15. Hey all.. I am afraid to say, I think the bassin season here in Little Rhody is all but over. Not because of the weather so much as the lack of rain. Fished Wilson Reservoir in Burriville RI today and it was sad. 5'to 6' down. Sand Dam (Smith and Sayles Reservoir) is "dead" according to the association there. Over grown with weeds. Anyone else having luck in the RI area?? Most of the state boat ramps are inaccessible due to the water being so low. Come on folks...CHEER ME UP!!! I'm not ready for winter yet!! bassinajr
  16. Absolutley....just don't want to show up without my rods!!!
  17. Hey all... I am fishing in a pond with REAL dirty water. I have been trying every kind of bait including baits with rattles and scents. (spinners, jigs etc.) Nothing, no fish. I picked up a chatter bait today. A "three in one bait" as Booyah describes it. The question: Any advice on how to fish these? They seem pretty versatile, but I have never used one. Thanks in advance bassinajr
  18. Hey fellow bassers.... I have a Motorguide 37 lb. trollling motor on the front of my bass boat. The Fisher boat and this motor are late 80's early 90's vintage. The trolling motor heats up and shuts off when put on the #5 (power mode). Sometimes it pops the breaker, other times it just shuts off til it cools down.Tthere is a Humminbird fish finder on the same circut. Any ideas on what could be happening?? Thanks, bassinajr
  19. Evening all.... I'm a beginner when it comes to jigs and jigging. I get the general idea on how to fish them. For some reason, I just don't lean on what many people say is a "go to bait." I'd would appreciate ANY advice on jigs and jigging. I know that's a BROAD subject but some Jig and Jigging 101 would be nice. Thanks in advance!!!! bassinajr
  20. Hey all.... My bassin buddy and I have our first local tournamnet on 10/28 (this Sunday). We think we got everything ready but????? Please, any tips for a first timer..how to's, what to avoid, live well ABC's, lures ANYTHING. Thanks bassinajr
  21. Hey... Try a Fleck Weed Wader from Herb Reed (Lunker City). I caught a 3.8 lb. LMB on a local pond last week with a yellow Fleck with bronze blades. Good luck!!
  22. Heh all!!! I have been talking to some local guys who suggest worm rattles for poor visability conditions, over cast days, and evenings. I've been using metal and glass beads on the line up from the plastic bait as apposed to tinkering with the worm itself. Any views or opinions on the two different tactics???
  23. Heh all!! Just a comment and hopefullly some responses... What is up with the weather here in the northeast (the whole country for that matter)? I know about cold fronts, warm fronts, lunar tables and on and on, but what happens to bass and how do they react under these weather situations?? Cold one day, hot the next BROAD ranges of hot to cold weather AND water temps. Any ideas, comments,is it just the end of the world?? bassinajr
  24. How do I check my P.M.s?? (These damm smiley faces are laughing at me......) bassinajr
  25. Heh, Just started posting and just got back into LMB fishing after a layoff of 15 years. I have my first tornament 10-28-07 and I am alittle nervous about...guess what??? Getting SKUNKED. But then I thought about this...... Your out fishing, maybe alone, maybe with a buddy..other people are working, or just don't have the finances to have a boat, equipment, etc. So you know what?? Whether we catch anything or not, WE ARE LUCKY!! Meet great people and swap stories. Don't be nervous...think how good you have it!!!! Maybe then you'll loosen up a bit and score heavy!!! Good luck!! bassinajr
