  1. I just read the pack again. It does say that "the color will wear off, but this does not affect the integrity of the line." Hope so!!!!
  2. Hey all... Went to Dick's tonight...I've had my eye on a St. Croix rod in their "clearance" area. It's a St. Croix Triumph TRS70MF 7' (one piece) Med. power /Fast action 6-12 lb. line Lure weight 1/4-5/8 oz. I paid $53.00. Now did I get a deal or no deal?? (I know it's cheesy but, come on!!! How often do 'ya get to use a play on words like this!!?? bassnajr
  3. Hey all... Well it's 65 degrees here in the Northeast today, and I was able to take a few casts with my new BPS Quantum baitcaster (that's right BAITCASTER!!!) with this PowerPro braid. WOW!!!! First, not one backlash!!! Probably a combination of a better quality reel and PowerPro braid. The distance on my casts was crazy!! I hope this stuff works just as well on spinning rigs. Unless this was a fluke...I'm sold!!! Thanks Tin and Stratosdad for the tip!!! bassnajr
  4. I want to catch an LB bigger than the one my brother has mounted on his wall....7 lbs.+ It would KILL him!!! bassnajr
  5. Hey all... My buddy and I are looking for a bass club in Rhode Island that is taking on new members for 2008. We have a boat (such as it is) and are just looking to hook up with some folks with similiar interests and fish some local tournaments. Anyone knows of such a group, let me know!! Thanks, bassnajr

  7. Hey all.. Went to the Providence Boat Show this past weekend. A big topic among all the boat sales people and potential buyers (and from what I understand, some of our friends on this forum!!) was the 9.9 HP and up controversy. For those who don't live and/or fish in RI here it is in a nutshell. There is a question as to wether you can launch a boat (any boat) with a motor larger than 9.9. HP from a State ramp. I ran into a friend of mine with the DEM (I still have some connections!!) Here's what she said: Certain ramps were built with funds from a Federal grant years ago. (She said the name, I don't remember it.) Those ramps are no launch, use, etc. of a 9.9 HP or over motor. Other State ramps are different because there was no grant money involved. She went on to say that the "9.9 Rule" was actually started by fisherman who got very upset at other boaters (water skiers, pleasure craft, etc.) zooming by them with there huge HP motors. (Probably 50 HP at that time.) After the advent of bass boats, which came with bigger HP motors, the original rule started to work AGAINST the fisherman. Bottom line: depending on what State ramp you are using, the rules are different. This information can be found by checking the D.E.M. Rules and Regulations, 32-2-4 rule, #6 which lists the ponds/lakes and what can be launched from what ramp. Also, a boat with ANY size motor can be used on any pond/lake if launched from private property. This BENEFITS the pleasure boaters on RI ponds and lakes who own waterfront property and consider the water THEIR property. We're just visitors!!! But your license fees and taxes go to keeping up those ponds/lakes etc. so they belong, obviously to us all. P.S. The DEM officers themselves have been trying to get the BRASS to change these rules for 15 years..no go! They don't see why a water skier or pleasure boater should have more rights than fisherman who pay license fees!!. Maybe it's time for us to get involved. Sorry for the long post. She will be mailing me more information which I'll post if people are interested. If not, I'll just shut up. PSS Still no LEGAL fishing in "The Reservoir". Sorry, I tried!! Alan (bassnajr)
  8. I have never fished balsa before. I bought a few off "a guy" and can't wait to use them. Alan
  9. Got it..thanks gutY. it's not worth it. I got it with a bunch of vintage rods and know nothing about it. It looks like an Ugly Stick (Clear top) that's why I thought it might be worth kepping but... OUT SHE GOES!!!!!
  10. Hey all.... I have a rod that needs one of the eyes repaired. (A Rhino one piece casting rod...older 5' 6"). Does anyone know of a rod repair in the New England area? How about an on line repair service? Is this rod even worth repairing? Thanks! Alan

Hey... When my brother taught me to bass fish 30 something years ago, all we used was Uncle Josh's Pork Rind Frogs (Nasty green and white color and smelly as hell!!!) I mean that was the only lure. Occasionally a weed wing buzz bait or a hula popper, but that was it. I watched him catch a TON of bass including 3- 7+ lbers. (not bad for Rhode Island!) He used to say the key was a monster weedless hook (an Eagle Claw 0/0 weedless if I remember right??) and keeping the frog in constant motion so the bass could track it better. I have a couple of Spro's I picked up for this spring and I can't wait to use them. I'll fish them the way my 'bro taught me and see!!! Good luck, Alan

Hey... I use Zoom and Strike king tubes green fleck, green and red and blue and silver. Last summer I used standard round jig heads for bottom/edge of weed lines etc. I also used tubes with a large weed less look, and fished them with no weight right under the surface, in gaps in the weeds and pads (let 'em sink, and pop 'em back up), and right across the pads, almost like a frog. My buddy was surprised at how well the later presentation worked. I did pretty well!!! This year, I'll work on jigs, their new to me. Alan
  14. Hey alll.... Anyone here frequently use balsa baits? Pros and or cons??? Comments???? Alan
  15. El Salto.....Ahhhhhh!!!
  16. Hey all, As discussed in other threads the weather in the Northeast where I live has been crazy (-11 yesterday....55 degrees later in this week.) here's the question: I have watched a certain pond in my area freeze over and melt SEVERAL times in the last few weeks. What if anything does this do to bass?? I know they have internal clocks that tell them when to spawn etc. but this weather must screw them up somehow! I know it's making me wacko!!!! Alan
  17. If this is a constant problem, have your Mom or Dad get a copy of your birth certificate. That should do it. And BE POLITE!! Even if the warden isn't. Good luck!!! bassn ajr
  18. Hey, I'm reading Iaconelli's book and "BASS! proven stratergies, skills and secrets for catching more and bigger largemouth bass". (Shady Oak Press). It gives alot of common sense stuff but some interseting stuff too. ajr
  19. Hey all... Just got back from BPS Foxboro MA. Spoke with an employee I know who advised that they are down to 1/3 of the stock they were sent for the opening. Inventory is in progress today, so I wouldn't count on any deliveries for at least a week or so. So all you folks who still have any gift cards left, might wanna wait a few weeks!!! Figured I'd let you guys know..... 'Course...it's still a cool place to go. P.S. The restaurant is due to open 1-19-2008.
  20. Going back tomorrow...I'm so bad ajr
  21. I don't think I am going to bother with trout this year. (Season opens 2nd Sat. In April). I think I'll go right for bass!! ajr
  22. Welcome! I live in Rhode Island and it's supposed to be, like -11 degrees over the next couple of days. I know what you mean though. I have gone by a few smaller local ponds with some open spots when it's been 50 degrees lately and wondered ??? It's winter, we're stuck with it!!! I've been reading some of the threads the guys here have posted. They've gone out and gotten skunked!! THINK SPRING!! bassnajr
  23. Oh.....yeah.....I...uh... knew that..... :-[ lol
  24. I have a trickle charger, is that the same as a guest charger? ajr
