  1. I'd like to know from northern guys here who have traveled down South to the "Mother of all Bass lakes" in FL,TX,AK etc. if they found them easier to fish, about the same, or totally different. We in the Northeast have a short season, so you have to learn to adapt and be "Fluent" in many different styles. I hope to find out myself next winter!! ajr
  2. I refer back to golf alot so here goes again! When it comes to equipment (golf or fishing) there are only so many factories that make equipment. I always do research on the net, for example, who makes rods for BPS or who makes the Quest rod sold at Dick's. you'd be surprised. I agree with LBH on most gear issues. You don't have to buy a $200.00 rod to be a good fisherman. It feels good though!! ajr
  3. If you're not into big names and don't mind a Walmart product, the Okechobee Fats large bag is on sale (clearance?) right now (2-1-2008) for $39.99. I have 21 lbs of gear in it right now and it is not full. It also comes with 8 very large plastic boxes. Good luck!! ajr
  4. The BPS Tourney is on sale right now (2-1-2008) at BPS Foxboro for $29.99. You can get them on line too, put then shipping applies. I grabbed two on Friday. Well worth the money. ajr
  5. Alpster... Thanks for the photos... ;D too much!!!!! So at 21 lbs. (not including back up stock!!) it looks like I am in the ball park. I hope to have a boat with more storage soon. It stinks to have to lug you tackle from boat to boat!! I guess now I can work on "satellite" bags, for when I'm heading out in the canoe or Bassraider!!!! Alan
  6. Well, spring is almost here (I hope) the battle of RI vs. CT is shaping up nicely, and all use Northeners have had to much time on our hands, bait monkey wise. I can honestly say, that after my visit to BPS this past Friday, I have WAY more than what I need to start the season. As I hefted my near gear bag to my "fishing room" in the basement, (that's where my wife has banished me) I wondered, "Does everyone's bag weigh this much??" Now I know alot of you have boats with massive storage, but on average, what does you gear bag weigh? I'd like to see what everyone else weighs in at so I can determine how deranged I am!!! Mine......21 pounds even! Alan
  7. A little late but.... I am waiting to hear on my retirement!! ajr
  8. PDB... Any more of those boats???? ajr
  9. Read the last few chapters of Iaoconelli's book as it applies to sponsors. Sobering stuff...but don't stop trying!! ajr
  10. Don't know how much of a deal this is but here goes... 4- 600 yard rolls of Yo-Zuri Hybrid Fluorocarbon/Nylon Hybrid (.011 diameter) 3 green one smoke color. $3.00 each total $12.00. and an Abu Conolon Premier MH casting rod 6'6" for $21.00. Wadda ya think???? ajr
  11. Anyone have any suggestions for MODERN bass fishing books. I got several for X-MAS that were great, but years old. I also just finished Iaoconelli's book. If anyone wants it, PM me with your address and I mail it to you so you don't have to buy it. Alan
  12. Welcome Gary!! Tons of great folks here!! ajr
  13. Thanks Matt!!! We ought to start the R.I. BPS Update Newsletter for all the New England guys...saves them all a ton on gas money!!! Hey Dean....does your Dad have...say.....uhhh...$200.00 for me??? bassnajr
  14. Hey all.... One thing about BPS.... Even if you order from the catalog or online they are really slow. Too slow if you ask me. But they have many things online that they don't have in the Foxboro, MA store. They haven't re-stocked since they opened the store last fall. Very discouraging. Also, the offer EXPEDITED shipping, for an additional fee of course. So if you don't pay the extra...expect 1 to 2 weeks. For the "free" offers...God only knows!!! bassnajr
  15. Hey all.. You're looking at a guy who grew up and used monofilament forever! I am now crawling into the 2000's just finding braid (PowerPro to be exact) and reading up on flouro, co-polys, etc. I sat down today and put together a list from a book I'm reading of "suggested", rods, reels, and lines for SPECIFIC applications (plastics, cranks, topwater, jigs, etc.) and the combinations are ASTRONOMICAL!!!! The new B.A.S.S magazine came today and Skeet Reese seems to say, forget about mono, flouro is the Pros wave of the future!! I played golf for 30 years and saw this same type of thing go on there with equipment. If you didn't have the newest, bestest stuff, you are behind the 8 ball. (I never felt that way!) How much of this is just hype to sell new equipment and line and how much is semi true? Is there and all around line for different applications? And if you feel there is, let me hear what you think it is. bassnajr
  16. Quote from Ray Scott himself!!!! Scott, pointing to Grigsby sitting in a nest of rods "There's a lot of insecurity involved when a man needs more than two rods, don't you think?" Hmmmmm??????? :-? bassnajr
  17. Is that the same as giving him a whack on the Burley Walnuts??? ;D Just kidding..... bassnajr
  18. The "Z-TRAIN!!!!!! I love that guy!!!! And he can fish a little too!!!! The show with him and KVD was great!!!! ("Who's got the T motor?") ;D ;D
  19. Sounds good to me....
  20. Every year they do a big spread in the Projo about opening day. You'd think that would have made the paper, no?? ajr
  21. Matt, Yes, but very basic. If you want, I can mail you a copy. PM me with an address. Alan
  22. Hey folks.... Does anyone know the TRUE story behind the Rhode Island record LMB? I know it's 10 lbs. and change, and I've heard that it was caught on opening day of trout season on a MEAL WORM at Carbunkle Pond. I find this hard to believe.... Anyone know more??? ajr
  23. Hey Jake... Do they B-day parties at BPS for adults like they do for kids at Chuck E. Cheeses????? That be cool!!!! ;D Catt x2 on the mental prep here at the site. I've worn out a laptop battery scanning this site!!!!
