  1. nice catch. topwater in feb. gotta love it.
  2. great lookin' fish. i really miss catching pickerel. they will flat out annihilate a bait. the small ones i used to catch were so much fun. i can only imagine what one that size would be like on the line.
  3. thanks guys. sorry but i can't really talk much about the bait right now other than to say that i am forcing myself to plow ahead with the tedious grind of field testing. initial feedback has been encouraging.
  4. yeah i'm gonna probably be off half a day. front moving through. supposed to be warm but the wind is supposed to blow over 17 mph. not sure if i'll go or not. definitely gonna try to fish saturday. the temps will be 25 degrees colder but less wind. cold fronts are more suited to my style of fishing anyway.
  5. pretty nice one this evening. first time out using a design i've been tinkering with. it's a start.
  6. fantastic. the kid's got a good teacher too. way to go dad.
  7. hey guys. i normally don't wait until feb. to start the new year's fishing, but my schedule just didn't allow me to go until this month rolled around. so i tried to make up for lost time. not the big fish bonanza i had hoped for, but i've been fortunate enough to catch a few over 5 and even some nice bluegill. here's some good ones i was able to get decent pix of. i hope winter fishing is going well for y'all.
  8. too awesome for words. i have always wanted to get a big flathead like that. don't reckon you'll ever forget this day. grats.
  9. it's been a good weekend. yesterday afternoon got a nice 7 pounder off a bed. (no one to take pics, sorry). today i had planned on looking around for more big bass, but that plan was derailed when i found some very nice bream beds. i quickly forgot about the bass and went to work catching a bunch of nice redears, bluegill, and hybrids of the two - and i mean some of these things were crappie sized. honestly if these got just half a pound bigger, i'm not sure i'd ever fish for bass again. so much fun on spinning gear and light line. all caught on modified baby rage craws.
  10. that is awesome. hope you are done with snow and ice. great vid.
  11. if you're gonna show us good fish like that one, post in my threads any time bruh. very solid fish. had to be satisfying to get a nice one out of the lake you described. and you're absolutely right. sometimes it's that little "something different" that flips the switch.
  12. #2 was an ugly, skinny 5 lber i caught in the pouring rain so i won't post that one. #3 was pretty special though. my lil' niece came over for some fishin' and we had a blast. of course i don't fish much when i'm with one of the young 'uns. those trips are all about having fun and making memories. it's just so cool to experience a fishin' trip through the eyes of a child. Putting the "magic" sunglasses on them for the first time and then watching their jaw drop when suddenly they can see right through the water and look at all the cool stuff underneath is priceless all by itself. then there's catching the bait which seems so fun to a child that they would be happy to forgo everything else and just catch minnows all day. then there's the complete pandemonium that breaks loose when a bassin' rookie hooks into a good fish and wins a hard fought battle. and finally there's the high fives, the pics, the bragging, naming the fish, and watching her swim off upon release knowing you might just be lucky enough to hold her again another day. it's a shame that sometimes we get so caught up in how big or how many and we forget the simple pleasures that addicted us to the sport in the first place. after catchin' several fat little fish on my favorite numbers lure, i asked her if she wanted to go after a big one. of course, who says no to that? so i started showing her how to catch little bluegill, explaining that we'd use those for bait. i really thought i'd lost her there because she momentarily decided that catching tiny fish was the coolest thing ever. but she got back on track and we went on the hunt for a biggun. i spied a nice one cruising, urged her to be still, and cast a little bluegill close. she took it from there. this fish was nice and healthy, somewhere between 5 and 6 lbs. i intentionally did not weigh the fish because i do not want it to be about that for her. she said it was huge and that's all that matters. great day.
  13. nice! and welcome to the board.
  14. good stuff man. it'll only get better from here. always great to see folks payin' it forward.

  18. yep, 6-4 was the weight. thanks dwight. pb? nah, but it was my pb for last week. I'll take it. hopefully some more bigguns will show up soon. i saw several NIIIIIICE fish cruising today getting ready to do the deal. thanks guys.
  19. she didn't appear to be on a bed but she had her spot staked out and she seemed nailed to it. no messin' around with this one. red hot fish. she bit on the first cast as soon as the bait got near her. probably didn't take 30 seconds from cast to catch. got her on a swimbait.
  20. dude you are single-handedly skewing the perspective of this entire forum about what a "good day of fishing" is. another great catch. and grats to your buddy!
