guess the weight of this bass...

Featured Replies

fishing at a little pond the other day and didn't have a scale and forgot to measure the girth... my hands and knees were shaking after i caught it and the pics don't show as good as how fat this fish was....  it was 21.5 inches long.. and i caught it out in the middle on a blue powerworm..tx rig... it felt very heavy and 2 other fisherman there thought it went 10 lbs...  I know a fish of  this length should only weigh 5-6 lbs. max...   it was pregnant and had been eating a lot... was as wide as it was long...

Might not be 10 pounds.

Without a accurate girth measurement I would estimate this bass to be 7 1/2 lbs.

Nice one !! 6.5-7.0 is my guess.

thanks... it felt real heavy but at just 21.5 inches it's hard to say...

Definitely not 10. I would say 6-7 is pretty close. Nice bass anyway!

Ill agree 6 to 7 would be a good estimate. Nice fish by any standard.

LoL, 21" wide, your nose is going to grow.  Nice bass nonetheless :checkitout: and I agree, somewhere in the 6.5 to 7.5 lb. range. Congrats!!

6lbs nice fish

nevermind the weight, that's one purdy fish!

Yeah, I'm with the 6+ votes. Hard to know...

But a lovely specimen bass.

Next purchase for ya, a scale! :)

I'd say 6-6.5 lbs.

Being that most of us tend to have a big eye, :checkitout: I'll put on my glasses, revise my estimate, and say 5lbs. 13oz. :idea-007:

That fish is a tank! Good job!

And this is how stories of "This dude caught a 10 lber outta the pond today" get started. Not bashin ya; that's a nice 6-7 lber! Congrats!

There is a formula used just for the length it is not dead on but very close.

It is your length , 21.5 x 21.5 x 21.5  divided by 1600 = 6.2Lbs

Nice fish in the 6 - 7 lb range!

According to Bill Dances episode a couple weeks ago and his formula your bass weighs about 6 lbs

I would say approximately 8 pounds. The length suggests a bass in the neighborhood of 7.5-8 pounds but with the girth being clearly a considerable amount, I would guess the fish at 8-8.25 pounds.

Caught a very healthy fish with eggs that was exactly 21.5 inches recently and it was 6.3

beautiful healthy fish.  6 pound class.

21.5....If I had a gun to my head, and looking at that pic...It is healthy, for sure a good bass,  I would go 6lbs to be safe but it could easily be 6.5, Seven Pounders usually look different but then again, pictures are really hard to use as an accurate weight estimator. I have pics of 7lb bass that look like 4 and vise versa...I always figure for a 21" bass not having a huge fat belly it is 5lbs...I start thinking 7 plus when I hit 23" range except in Spring when Females are pregnant or in small ponds where fish do not move much so they get stocky...

This fish was caught by my buddy a few weeks ago and she is clearly pregnant..We didnt get a measurement but I estimated 8, I may have gone 9 if I landed it...

Close to 5lbs. Good Job. 6 is generous.jpg
