  1. I do not know from experience but I have always been told/ heard/ read that if you are flipping with the big weight 1+ oz when you feel a bite DO NOT drop slack to set the hook. Just keep tension and set. The weight is so heavy in the fishes mouth that it will cause them to drop it if you give them slack before setting the hook. Makes sense to me, I have never seen a 3" crawdad that weighs almost 2 ounces and I guarantee they haven't either.
  2. On a good day 1-3 but on a bad day or a practice day usually one more than I have in the boat. ;D I usually take 15 in the boat with me but most are in the box unless its a rough day.
  3. I just got an email from TW saying that mine will be here Tuesday. The only bad thing about that is that I leave Monday night for the Clarks Hill Elite :'( I really wanted that rod for that tournament.
  4. I have purchased some of these in the Super Fluke at my local BPS. They are pretty difficult to find though.
  5. Yeah I ordered the same rod from TW and it said it would be in stock 2 days after I ordered it so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. Two days later I checked the website again and it said Backordered until 5/16. Not knocking TW but it seems that E21 is having trouble keeping up w/ inventory. Must be the economic Stimulus kicking in ;D
  6. x2 w/ a 1/2 oz Red Tru-Tungsten weight
  7. I buy a lot of on the water snacks and drinks in bulk. You pay roughly $2 for a Gatoraide at the gas station but at Sam's you can get 16 for much less than you could buying them one at a time at the lake. Also snacks! I bought a 48 pack of peanut bars for $10 at Sams (instead of paying .89 each). It all adds up when you are on the water every weekend.
  8. I agree with CATT. My normal partner and I usually take his truck and my boat. It usually works out pretty fairly unless we are traveling multiple hours for a BFL or something like that then we try to split 50-50.
  9. Yeah Thanks Russ. Now that we REALLY know how much time you put into them ;D
  10. 7'6" Crucial MH. AWESOME rods ( I have 2) They have the split grip and fish more like a 7' when it comes to weight but will definitely move big fish out of cover ( I just won big fish in a BFL last weekend with a 6lb. 8oz toad that had me wrapped up under a dock and I just hauled her rear back around the piling) Can't go wrong with them.
  11. If the Crucial casting DS rod is anything like its spinning sibling then it will be an amazing rod for the job. I have a 6'8" Crucial DS spinning rod and it works wonders DS'ing. Also does great with a #5 shad rap
  12. I use Big Game for 90% of my mono uses but have been eyeing the Sensation as a possible replacement since I started using it for spinning rod applications. Who knows. :-/
  13. They all break. I was in a tackle shop in Alabama a few weeks ago and saw a stack of Loomis' that were broken at all different areas of the blank. Its just the price to pay for lighter and more sensitive rods!
  14. Excellent Job Glenn. Kriet seems to be a great guy and the part about fishing Elites as a Non-boater makes all the sense in the world! I had a buddy who fished them for 2 years as a nonboater (a couple each year) and he said it took years off of his learning curve (He is now fishing the Elites as a boater!) Isn't it amazing the power of doing an interview, even for the person doing it. I know Kriet gained a bunch of fans that he might not have had just from doing that one 12 minute interview on this website. Awesome work Glenn! The Knowledge Monkey is screaming " I NEED MOOOOORREEEEEE!" ;D
  15. I agree. x2 - the trigger also decreases the chance of slippage thus decreasing the chance of the unhappy wife when you knock her favorite flower pot off the porch. ;D
  16. First let me start off by saying that I fish a jig on the bottom 90% of the time, BUT who said you have to always fish a jig on the bottom. If I am confident that I will catch them on the jig and I am not getting the bites, I start swimming the jig. It is a great substitute for a spinnerbait or crankbait. I can cover the same level in the water column by swimming my jig that a shallow flat side or a spinnerbait will cover w/o having to pick up another rod. I swim a jig a whole bunch around floating docks that are over deep water in the spring. The females like to get under the floaters but still like to have "deep" water close by and they tend to suspend a good deal as they stage there. Just thinking outside of the box a little
  17. On the ZX hull redesign. It was mostly cosmeticly redesigned. The Hulls were very similiar between the Iclass and the ZX to begin with. The Iclass being 1" deeper (1" is found right below the rubrail for the most part) and about 100lbs heavier to give it a better ride. On the ZX vs. the SX, I am not quiet as sure about this but I do know that the main difference is the splashwell (ZX doesn't have one and the SX does). If I were to take an educated guess at it, I would say that the SX has an older hull design that might be lacking in the Chines and Strakes. I have driven both and can tell you that the ZX handles a whole lot better than the SX in turns. JMHO
  18. If it is anything like my previous vehicle ('92 Cherokee), You shouldn't have any problem accelerating but braking was my big problem. Once up to speed, I didn't have any problems (as long as I used the tow/haul as well). I was pulling a 20' Skeeter w/ a 200hp on it and it did just fine with the inline 6
  19. I have noticed this alot in and around regions that have a lot of grass. I just saw one two weeks ago on Guntersville. I never see anything like this around NC/VA areas. Always thought it was strange.
  20. Yeah I once fished for a "spawner" for 10 minutes just to find out that it was a freakishly green clump of grass in 5 ft of water. :-[ If you ask me to my face though I will deny it! ;D
  21. I have gotten into the Clarks Hill event and was wondering if anyone else has fished one of these events that could give me some insight. I have fished BFL's as a coangler but it has been a few years.
  22. I spoke to the Berkley rep concerning my distaste for Vanish and he gave me the same answer. "It was mainly produced for Dropshotting and other light line vertical tactics" I'm glad that it was written on the box when I bought it because I wouldn't have broken off a few crankbaits trying to get extra depth out of them. > I also broke my line when I hung one up and tried to "pop" my line - - > it really did Pop but it was right at the reel.
  23. Rob, Sorry to hear that you had a tough time. Dropping water is always a great way to screw up a good bite! Did you get a chance to fish any of the stuff I told you? Probably wouldn't have done much better since it was pretty flat as well.
  24. All Time most productive crankbait would be either a Bandit 200 in Chart/Blue back or a #7 shadrap in Natural shad.
