  1. I was messing around with a Bronzeye the other day (finally found a lake with some veg. in it to fish a hollow frog around) but thought the "legs" were way to long. Do you guys shorten them up? and if so how much? Half? Thanks for the info it is greatly appreciated! Wayne- That is a cool idea with the rattles.
  2. x2 I just got mine the other day and they do look like they could change the shakey head concept.
  3. I am trying to learn more about these baits and was wondering what the more experienced froggers do to their baits to make them more efficient or more appealing.
  4. The Mutt is a smaller bait in length than the Hickey but the Mutt is a thicker bait (still flat but thicker than the Hickey). I have a couple of the Mutt's but haven't gotten them wet yet. They look like they will throw pretty well. I agree with Stringjam the Hickey is my go to crankbait in clear to stained water. It will flat out catch fish and I think the Mutt will do the same more towards the fall when the bait is smaller.JMO
  5. I currently have 10 crucials and love everyone of them. The drop shot rods are amazing as well as the 7'6" MH flipping stick. Great rods for the money!
  6. Where is the sign up sheet?! Man I love smallies but haven't caught one in a year or two since I moved to NC. Awesome trip guys!
  7. The major shad spawn is in late spring here. Usually when water temps are very high 60's and low 70's. But there tends to be multiple shad spawns through out the year. The reason why the late spring one is so significant is because the bulk of the shad spawn at the same time. The other spawns are sporatic throughout the summer months and are much much smaller.
  8. I second Zel's reasoning for Dick Cheney! Hunting would be hazardous to your health! Hilarious!
  9. Awesome video. Wish I was there during the trip instead of the week before ;D Looking forward to KY lake.
  10. Welcome aboard. You will fit in just fine (already stirring the pot! just kidding) By far, the best place on the net for fishing info and fellowship!
  11. Maltese- I got a chance to fish with Skeet recently on Clarks Hill and all I can say is he is a machine!
  12. KVD - No need to explain why. I would fish with him on any lake with heavy cover when the fish were tight to the cover. Gerald Swindle - I think he would be a trip to fish with. I would fish anywhere.

Some sort of wakebait like a Bandit footloose would be good. It is usually a vicious strike when they hit that thing.
  14. I have used both and personally will not buy another Bass Magic. I think the Hollow Bellies are that much better. I to laughed at the price originally but since they are almost identical to Basstrix and have a much better scent I will buy the Berkley. On the last one I used I caught 5 or 6 and it is still in pretty good shape (except for the teeth marks that is )
  15. x2 on the rubber pegs. They are great!
  16. I love this place!! ;D I agree with the comment about staying single that RW posted. I am a newlywed and almost ended up single again because of the potency of JJ's! (It is now kept outside in the original ziploc, a grocery bag, inside of a 1 gallon ziploc and in a rubbermaid container! haha)
  17. Crawfish are nocturnal creatures by nature so they will more than likely be more active in the cloud cover as well. I have had great days flipping jigs in heavy cover when its raining and overcast and I have had horrible days doing the same thing. Just another piece of the puzzle you have to figure out that day. But the bass don't always read the playbook everyday. My best 5 fish limit in a BFL (17-8) came off of a tube flipped as far under docks as I could on a day where it was cloudy and drizzling. Go Figure.
  18. I know this goes against conventional thinking with concern to the Ika. I learned about this great technique off of this site and am forever grateful for it but I also found that I was not boating the percentage of fish I was "hooking" on the Fat Ika with the EWG style hook so I started using a 4/0 Owner straight shank hook. I am pushing 100% efficiency with my hook up to land ratio. JMHO the exit angle of the hook is much better.
  19. Fluke, Is this similiar to the brand "Quick Drops" version? I just bought some of them and haven't had a chance to try them yet. They are pretty economically priced as well!
  20. This happened to my travel partner about 2 years ago. I don't think he had made 5 casts with it yet and the blade was gone. After that I don't even look at them anymore. Nichols Pulsator for me.
  21. Speaking about Cheaters... Has anyone heard anything from Tony Christian lately?
  22. I'm not sure where all the negativity comes from but I love the stuff. All it took was for me to catch a 5lb smallmouth in current on 6lb Sensation and I was hooked. I have not had any breakoff problems or memory problems. I actually use it on most of my spinning rods instead of Fluro since it doesn't have memory problems like some Fluro does. I love it! I can also pull my 20' Skeeter with 6lb.
  23. From everything I have "heard" is that Gulp products do very well on Smallmouth in your neck of the woods.
  24. Go early, Stay late!
