depends on the lure, imo. having to speed up a 5:1 reel feels just as awkward to me as having to slow down a 7:1.

x2. they may be able to pick out things we don't notice but, if bass could see detail as well as humans, they would never try to eat a spinnerbait.

depends on how much space you have and how much you wanna spend. gloomis and st. croix come to mind. that said, i generally just keep a 2 piece shimano compre wrapped in a towel in the toolbox of my pickup.

i use the 12# hybrid for all moving baits anymore...all in all, it leans more towards the xt type of lines than an xl type of line. not near as unmanageable in the colder waters, imo, as the xt or big game.

for under $100, the compre line (and warranty) are hard to beat.

xfast on plastics. can live with f or mf on evrything else.

am impressed with how smooth the e5 handles the flat cb d20's and dd-22's. 3/4 oz. blades, as well.

have used jigs up to 1/2 oz. with no problem...with braid. with mono or fluoro, 15# is about the limit as far as casting performance...can get by with 20# if pitching. that said, there are arguably better reels out there for those apps...finesse is where it shines, imo.

if you're fishing braid, stay away from the recoils. the sound is a mix between fingernails on a blackboard and hilary clinton.
