every year seems to be getting worse here in the northeast. and preventives on dogs are getting less and less effective. currently I use seresto collars, advantix 2, and a bandana treated with permethrin on each of my 3 rescues. I still find ticks on them, 2 of my dogs have shown lyme in their bloodwork past 2 years. ticks are the only thing in nature that have no purpose that I know of.

If you are going out with your family, especially with a child (life jacket at all times, please) a john boat is best. Not the greatest in wind, but a flat bottom is nice. two paddles are better. but for solo trips, you might be able to find a used kayak cheap. better in wind/current, easy transporting.

try fly fishing. you might even like it better. streams/rivers rarely freeze solid, even here in the northeast. trout, smallmouth bass, pike, carp, etc.

You will get interference that way, if you tap into the trolling motor battery

thanks for the link, I was hoping to find it locally. It used to be at Walmart, Dicks, and local tackle shops. I thought, maybe, it was bought out by a bigger company.

I have an Aqua view, while it does take away time from actual fishing, it is fun to play with. I think kids will enjoy it, not only to see fish, turtles, etc., but to find lost treasures. I have found lures, fishing rods, anchors.....but no bodies, yet :-)

Once you figure out what type of fish you are trying to catch, look to ebay, or other places for a used Orvis Clearwater set up. Also might be easier if you started out by using a slower action rod, as they are more forgiving to "less than perfect" casting. Check local fly shops for the type of fly that's working in the places you will be fishing. Wooly Buggers work well in most places

build it on a catamaran base, you could use the sails at times. very stable too. less drag than those barrels

27 series battery is less than 2" longer. sure you can't squeeze them in? I have a 24' pontoon boat, 24v electric motor only I use because I bring my 3 rescue pals. I can easily run all day w/o a charge, maybe longer, but I recharge every night

Loved the sounds of the Cranberries. I have every CD, and a couple DVDs of their concerts. Only 46, much too young. RIP
