  1. Well This an appropriately time thread. A stump just took out my T/M yesterday, and Today I see that the IRS just deposited my Tax return. I may just replace my old unit with one of these. I also noticed that the shaft has a life time guarantee, I was very happy to see that, considering the situation. One question though. I have a '95 F/S. The length of the shaft (measured from bottom of head to top of motor housing) was 36 inches. These have a 48 inch shaft. what type of problems is this likely to cause? The add also said that with the "maximizer mode" you could get 5x more life from the battery charge. Think I can get by with one battery? thanks for the well timed thread.
  2. I'm thinking of doing some night fishing this year. I was wondering what id need and what you guys take and do different. I need some tips if you dont mind...
  3. Did you call them? I sent them an email Saturday and they haven't responded yet.
  4. Any time Im fishing a pond, I make sure Ive got a few pumpkin seed lizards, those beaver tail looking things, and some craw fish looking plastics. I fish them either weightless, or T-rigged w/a very small weight . If the pond will have shallow banks or some trees in >4' id take a couple of Rapala minnows. Have fun... I love a captive audience.lol
  5. I just got back from the lake and now Im more confused than ever. I mounted the transducer to a piece of PVC conduit. I carefully marked it so that a line would show me, (when held next to the transom) the original mounting depth and 1 inch increments so I would know how much deeper it need to be if the current mounting location was wrong. We put the boat in and headed out. Once we got out on the lake I had my son put the transducer in up to original mounting mark. The unit performed flawlessly at the original location, and all depths tested afterwards. I do have one complaint though. I had the Si set to 150' per side. and the screen was dark from about halfway on each side and outwards beyond that. Also the internal gps will not work. All I get is "no gps position fix. I was out there for thirty minutes in the middle of the lake and it couldn't get a fix.
  6. my 798 is doing the same thing. "no gps fix" I guess mine will have to go back too. Im glad they have good CS but its beginning to look like their quality control has been laid off. >
  7. Ive run it all the way up till the prop breaks the surface. No change. Ive got the transducer bolted to a pole right now. Im gonna take it to the lake in the morning and drop the transducer about 3 feet under the boat and see if that cures it.
  8. Does any one in the Memphis area have a 798 si on there boat that shows both sides of the side scan image all the time? I would like to meet you at the lake one day, to test my head on your transducer. Ill pay for gas and buy ya lunch. It'll help me. A HB rep is helping me on the yahoo boards. Curiousangler, apparently you and I aren't the only ones. Has yours always been like that or did it just start?
  9. Have you tried lubricating it? Mine has grease fitting on it. It helps alot.
  10. Ive got a very strange problem. I just installed this unit and took it out for a check. 90 % of the time I get hardly any definition off the left side display. All dark no drop. Just a few spots on the left that may be something. Its got to be something in the installation. I had this same problem on a previous same model on a different boat. This is a brand new unit. I never did figure out why the other unit was that way, I traded that boat for this one and put another 798 on this one. Ill post a picture of my display. The motor is not blocking the transducer beam at all. Even all the way down. The transducer is mounted level in relation to the boat, It may be off a couple of degrees but that should be well with in operational tolerances. The right side reads good in all conditions. The first time this happened I traded transducers with a new one from Bass pro shop and it did the same thing. Help :-[
  11. Its good that you have the control to pull it off. Most people do not have the discipline to do that. I know I didn't. I was in the library (bathroom)at my sisters one day and found"Financial Peace" on the magazine rack. I read it in two days. It changed my life. You should read it. My life has been a thousand percent better since.
  12. Point one. Buy some rod and reels on credit....sure its easy. Then Hey whats 3 grand for a fish finder. 6 months same as cash....no problem.....Its just for a few months. d**n....Theres that new truck I want.....only 500 a month..I'll get that too. Fast forward 6 months......what do you mean I'm getting laid off and have to sell my house? Happens many times every day. Very few people have control over it. Point Two You and I have obviously different financial philosophies. My goal is to have a credit score of zero. The only thing I will borrow money for is a house and any reputable bank will manually underwrite a home loan. A credit score only reflects how much you love to be in debt. Not trying to sound superior or any thing but I've lived both ways and debt free is the only way too be.
  13. Sorry, I'm a Dave Ramsey follower. A home is the only thing I will finance ever again.I financed my home for 15 years. I paid it off in 8. Its all mine. Its fully understandable to finance as large a purchase as a house. What working man has 100 G's sitting around. But anything else besides that should be paid for cash only. The Zero interest offers are a semi scam. They live for the day when you dont pay it off in time. (And 85-90 % of people dont) Then the past interest accrues at a much higher rate and they win, you lose. Its as simple as that.
  14. Fisher is and always has been a quality product to my knowledge. MY father has a three year old crappie boat and I love it. As previously mentioned, check it for obvious damage do a compression test on the motor. If that all checks out offer him 2000 CASH and enjoy it.
  15. Im watching KVD on you tube. Hes cranking away on this spinner bait. He then says he fishing this slow. If this is slow then I fish like the dead. Start at about 7:30. he says it at 8:00. Is that really slow?
  16. Just wanted to brag about it. My son busted the Clear lid on my 7771. I contacted Plano by email and asked how to purchase one. They asked me which one I needed. I informed them. They sent me another, no charge, no questions asked. What do you think my tackles sitting in for the next 20 years? CS like that just isn't found any longer. They got my business for life.
  17. IF you live by the adage that "if you cant pay cash you cant afford it" you wouldn't have to worry the payment plans or the consequences.
  18. Can I show up if I just tent camp at one of the camping areas? I just might be there if thats okay.
  19. I went with the Spinning combo. Got a 6'6" Graphite Series rod medium/fast. I bought an extreme Series EX 20 spinning reel. That's under 80 bucks I think that will work best for right now. Thanks for the advice guys.
  20. I want to catch one bass by correctly reading the lake/fish conditions and executing my game plan accordingly. All my fish so far have just kinda haphazardly found my hook.
  21. Jesus RW... What do you use for trolling? A two-lb Catfish hooked through the dorsal? ;D
  22. Im at BPS right now.....Im leaning towards the spinning combo...ill report later and let you guys know. Thanks again.
  23. Hey y'all.. I hope your weekend is going well. As a newbie I am finding my self deficient in Rods and reels. I' m trying to figure out my next purchase. I have at present a Zebco Omega on a 5'5" M rod. A BPS bait caster Rick Clum combo 6'6" MH. And a spinning rig Shimano/bionic blade rod. 6' lite setup. Im torn between a 6' M spinning rig and a 7' MH baitcast setup. I like the way my spinning real throws with the exception of having to use two hands to stop a too-long cast(and believe me at this stage of the game there are lots and lots of those.) I believe I will need this smaller rig sooner than the other as the fish will be moving shallow soon and I plan on using lighter tackle in the shallows. I like the bait casters being able to stop a wayward throw with the thumb but they are a little more maintenance intensive for me. (read wasp nest style tangles..lol) But a worming rod will sit unused for a couple of months I think. What do you guys think I should do?
  24. I will be there this weekend. Thanks for the input
