  1. That is very similar to my War eagle. My console is not as nice. I put the Lowrance unit on top directly behind the windscreen. I'll put the HB in the same location.
  2. I am not familar with your boat. Does it have a console? The HDS-8 requires the Structure Scan unit and you have to put that someplace.
  3. I use this for my canoe. http://cgi.ebay.com/Self-Load-One-Man-Univeral-Kayak-Canoe-Loader-Carrier_W0QQitemZ320486429315QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9e7ad283 You may be able to adapt it to your john for use on your van. You will need quality after market racks. You mount the transom on the bracket, lift the bow and swing it onto the racks. BTW I use Thule racks.
  4. You can't use SI when your navigating on plane so the 798 is the same as any other finder and only provides depth. But you can use GPS and graph split screen, and it is a bit too small. My Lowrance LMS is the same size as the 798. I use the split screen all the time, day and night, and have never had a problem seeing the display.

  6. bassenleo I'm sorry to hear about your problems especially now that the season is getting started. I hope Tracker makes good quickly. When I was looking for a boat similar to yours I looked at a few, War Eagle, G-3, and Xpress in addition to Tracker. What was so obvious was that the Tracker was not in a class to the other makes. The hull and deck materials were thinner and I did not think it had the structural integrity compared to the others. I went with a 17" WE and am glad I did but I have no doubt I would have been happy with any of the better boats.
  7. What is the difference between the Humminbird 798ci SI and the HB 798c SI? Does the "i" mean it has an internal GPS? I looked at the specs but could not see a difference. Thanks
  8. I have a 40 HP Suzuki. There are many times during the season I have to pull the small nozzle on the water return and clean it out. It seems the Suzuki's have a smaller hole and it clogs easily. I run a Johnson in the same waters and never have the problem. Pull the small black nozzle and clean it. That may solve your water return problem. BTW That return is only an indicator to let you know the water pump is working. The cooling water runs out the prop hub.
  9. Do all HB 798's have the Switch Fire feature? If I buy a HB 798 online how would I know it has Switch Fire? Can it be downloaded from the HB website? Thanks
  10. And now that there is competition between HB and Lowrance the technology will take off as they fight for our money.
  11. And it don't look like it's going to be over for a long time.
  12. Thanks dick I looked at both at Cabela's. The demos always make the units look better and both looked great there but the HDS screen shots I see on the web look better to me than the HB.
  13. I am asking the same questions as BigEbass for the same reasons. I would spend the extra money for the HDS if it were worth the extra money.....So dick do you think the HDS is worth another $600?
  14. I would not recommend a 10' john for anyone your size. It would not be safe and especially so in anything but dead calm water. Save your money and get a bigger boat.
  15. I have been debating whether to buy the new Terrova or an ice auger. I think I'll get more use out of the ice auger this year. ;D
  16. You do not need to upgrade at all. The pedal has been here for a long because guys like it and it is very convenient for fishing. The I-Pilot is new technology. I want it because it will be an advantage for some of the fishing I do. I could live without the I-Pilot but not the pedal.
  17. No, you will be able to upgrade to the I-Pilot. That would give you the Autp Pilot feature. I am going to buy the 55 lb Terrova and when I get the money I'll buy the I-Pilot.
  18. I have been reading everything I find on SI. I have just recently began to think I understand what SI is capable of. I fish a lot of places but the lakes I fish most frequently are at the max 30' deep with most spots being 10 to 20' deep. Am I correct in thinking than down scan will not be any great advantage over SI in shallower depths because it does not cover much area?
  19. I didn't know this was an argument. I thought it was a discussion about different SI units. I'm about to spend a lot of money on a HB or a whole lot of money on a Lowrance and I want to know all my options before I make a decision.
  20. Than you boys post up! I'm ready to see some better pics than what has been posted above or across the net as a whole. I've always thought the side imaging concept is quite amazing! Yea, lets see those photos. I intend to buy an SI unit soon. I have been on 5 or 6 sites in the past few days reading up on HB and Lowrance. Everyone on those sites say that HB is better than the pics posted but no one has posted any pics that are better than the Lowrance.
  21. I just got off the phone with Minn-Kota. The Power Drive with the I-Pilot does not come with a pedal and cannot be used with a pedal. If I want a Minn-Kota with both I-Pilot and pedal I have to buy a Trrova with the I-pilot and the two models available are too big for my boat. The best option for me would be to buy the basic 55lb Terrova and the seperate I-Pilot.
  22. The Bass Pro catalog says the PD with the I-Pilot does not come with a pedal. The Cabela's catalog says it does. Does anyone know which is correct? If there is no pedal I would not want one. I see there is an option for a wireless pedal. Does anyone have any opinions on the wired vs the wireless pedal?
