  1. Someone forgot to mention points Deepwater rocky points if any But definately they like 10'water like Bret said If your electronics are lacking read this to search and powerfish deeper water till you find them http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1191455282
  2. Yeah, I hauled alot of water with those things. Should I give it another try? I will if your endorse them. :-/
  3. My favorite nighttime lure--black spinnerbait--good call this trip intrigues me ---tell me more please
  4. I love the extreme action of Rapala slashbaits dark blue on top yellow orange on the bottom 3.25 inch you can't work em fast enough
  5. I use Strike King Midnight Special with black and red or black and blue at night and in dirty water but never used one in cold water Sounds good though
  6. got that right Tin---make them feel stupid
  7. More on reaction baits---smallies like spinnerbaits reeled really fast just under the surface--try chartreuse or white double willowleaf 3/8 or 1/4 If the spinnerbait rolls ,switch blades to a smaller one and/or shorten the blade wire 1/2 inch Also try working a rapala slashbait really hard---1-3 hard fast twitches with only a 1 second pause. Rip it with 10lb floro., then point your rod toward the lure each time--this allows the slack in your line to swing the jerkbait right and left almost 180 degees I hope I desribed this in enough detail so you get the picture. I use a med. 7' St. Croix and if you are not tired after a couple minutes, you are doing it fast enough. I learned these from a KVD seminar in Boston and on Bass Pros. He also suggested sharpening the lip for more erratic action but I've never tried it. The best conditions for this is cloudy and breezy. The color I use is dark blue on top and yellow and orange on the bottom 3.25". it tracks 1-3' deep with this technique. Also try taking someone from this forum in your area to help figure out the bass. Put their money where there mouth is. Good luck
  8. Another crazy pattern I noticed on the CT river is to throw a tube near big carp in 2' of water and when the carp swim away the smallies eat up whatever is stirred up from the bottom This happens during the summer with low clear water in Enfield I saw some locals do it and they hammered them crazy huh
  9. GREAT story thats fishin' for ya thanks
  10. Yup we have some open water now too. Thank God. Sorry people more north. I have to go into the cold water though.. some jerk put my rowboat in the water that was on shore, now its 2 feet deep huuuuuh I don't have time for this
  11. Great photos That last one is spooky thanks
  12. Fisherman know the unwritten rules of the water. Some just ignore it. On the other hand pleasure boaters don't always know "the rules". The do seem receptive to waving hand jestures for them to go behind you're casting toward a bank. And I do think its ok to go around another boat slowly and fish in front of them as long as its 50 yards or so. Thats just fishing. I guess people have different views of the word "Public waters"
  13. To find fish now, read all the northern archive threads on cold water After you find some depths that seem interesting, power fish When it warms up, chunk a spinnerbait and rattletrap until you find fish and not during a cold front. that will just frustrate you You should have no problem finding fish beginning in May and June during the spawn. Then just follow the seasonal migration according to "the Book" Follow up with other questions after you start the finding fish process
  14. Sounds like you're fishing in a toilet
  15. Sometimes the fish just don't bite. I've seen a tourney won with 3lbs in a cold front
  16. Sounds likely you can always ask the bass professor for a 10th opinion

Welcome and Hello from CT You're not alone feeling lost in deep water Most bass fisherman feel most at home chunking towards shore at stuff they can see fishing for the 10% of bass near shore. 90% are behind you but the 10% are easier to catch. Here's what I suggest--drop shot in deepwater cover and structure until you catch your 1st fish, then go to that spot every time you go out on that lake. When you catch more bass there, your deepwater confidence will be way up. Of course electronics are a must to find spots. Then you can experiment in other spots and lakes to continue that pattern. Thats how I learned. Good luck
  18. sure they are....Ike spends the winter working out
  19. Carp baseball anyone? Those things are aweful
  20. I hate stingers--the 3 day itch is so annoying glad you're ok nice CT representation

  22. CITY LIMITS is cool because I'm a huge fan of Ike Now thats entertainment And ZONA was made to be on TV Can't wait for a KVD show---he is a great teacher And who's that go fetch guy on bass tech?--the guy with so much personality---he should have his own show too I'm not allowed to watch the mad fisherman!!!!my wife HATES him ;D
  23. no matter how many you catch, you still want to go again tomorrow
  24. Rubber nets at Cabelas are under $20 and its alot easier to get treble hooks out of a rubber net I only use a net in tourneys when theres money on the line Shame on me
  25. In CT some reserviors are owned by a private water Co. so they decide if they want to be bothered by fisherman and hikers Some are public and some are private Some are closed to fishing and you need a permit just to hike It may have to do with if they are actively used or not Whoever is in charge of your fishing regulations should be able to answer some of you questions. Do you want motorboats in your drinking water? On another note, I just read in recent news that there are lots of steriods and birth contol in our drinking water around the country...it could be linked to our health issues. :'(
