  1. She was spawned out, flabby belly. I'll guess at about 4. The one from my tournament post was about 3-8, for reference.
  2. Texas rigged Culprit worm.
  3. The Ballistic version is ONLY $250, LOL.
  4. Thanks. The avatar was from Erie, last fall. 5-12, breaking a personal record that stood for 15 years by 1/2 a pound.
  5. No, sorry. I never used a guide on Oneida. I have pretty good luck on Oneida by myself:
  6. Thanks. No I don't know him. Should I?
  7. Event number three is in the books. Port Bay provided limits for nearly every boat, and lived up to it's rep. Most guys reported catching plenty of fish, and leaders culled out respectable, though a bit light for Port Bay limits. Competition was fierce, and only fifteen hundredths of a pound separated first and second place. In the "other species" department, Jason reported catching his first snakehead, later correctly identified as a bowfin. 3rd place weighed in at 12.63 lbs. While Guy says he caught two fish, Jeff scores 5 bonus points for weighing in all five of his fish. Seems like the guys are liking this new bonus points program. Anglers get an extra point for each fish weighed in that was caught by that angler. At any rate, my guess is they got theirs on frogs. 2nd place, at 13.20 lbs. was John (yeah, that's me again with yet another 2nd place) and George - A mixed bag of LMB and SMB. Had they culled that last smallie, they would have won it all (shut up Marty!). That's John's 1st TX as a boater, BTW.....just sayin' :peace: 1st place. Frogs. Web. Jason. Lunker. Win by 0.15 lbs. I'm so glad we had the new scale set up for hundredths, because "point-one-five" sounds so much better than "two ounces." LMAO. Congrats guys! Jason's lunker was a nice, fat chunk that I like to see in my "home waters." Honerable mention to Kevin, a provisional entry after getting last minute entry to the club - thanks for donating, LOL. Full Results Place Boater/Non: Fish Weight Lunker 1st Web/Jason 3/2 13.35 4.05 2nd John/George 4/1 13.20 3.69 3rd Jeff/Guy 5/0 12.63 3.48 4th Kevin/Partner 5/0 9.33 5th Brutus/Mike 4/1 8.49 6th Terry/Nate 3/1 8.49 7th Mitch/Paul 5/0 7.04 Now,the fun part. Stealing a page out of the Burnie Haney tournament report handbook.... My day! I awoke at 3 am to "dog issues." You own a dog, you know what I mean. So I was running a little late, and not so relaxed. When I passed Terry "The Critter" on 104 in Ontario, NY I knew I was OK. Critter is always late, but not that late. On the water, I was thrilled to be able to run all the way north, to the outlet without company. I was even more thrilled to have a limit of smallies by 6:30 am in the well. Today was my partner George's birthday, and ....well, ask Burnie about birthdays and Port Bay - we both caught 5 pounders on my birthday two years ago, and LMB for Burnie, and a smallie for me. No five pounders today, though. A weak cold front, and then a warm, dry mass of air with the requisite bluebird skies made for tough conditions. Toss in stiff south winds that did a 180 by mid morning, settling into the prevailing W/NW winds, and you have the makings of three days packed into one half day. After we limited out (on a Lucky Craft CB Flat MR in 10 FOW), I switched up to a Texas rigged Ragetail Craw, A wacky jigged Trick Worm, and grass jig with a GYCB Flappin' Hog trailer, threaded of course. George and I basically fished shallow slop, or"frog waters" for the remainder of the day. I pretty much gave him first crack with the frog, and then jigged the hell out of the place. George caught a solid limit of about 11 lbs. from the back of the boat, but I just upgraded all but one of his frog fish, which was the 2nd biggest fish in our bag. We had two dinks and a smallie that needed to be culled. With 15 minutes to go, I stuck a nice jig fish to get rid of the dink. One left. Then I realized, the next dock was where I caught this beast in practice here, two years ago. Could it be true? Yeah, see below, caught that spawned out female with about 5 minutes left. Good enough for 2nd, LMAO. It ain't so bad being the bridesmaid. Jason, enjoying his "KVD moment." His fat, lunker bonus fish. Nice work, man! Not quite! Jeff, with some solid Port Bay Frog Fish. The new scale display kicks arse. Just needs some sponsors [cough-cough] Final Results:
  8. Finger? A smallie flopped around in the boat this morning, and drove a treble into my big toe. That was in the first ten minutes of a tournament. I ripped it out, and kept fishing for 2nd place.
  9. I actaully sport mine by lure weight, not depth, since the weight dictates what rod I'll be using, and I tend to switch baits a lot before settling on one.
  10. Just watch out for wind. Should work.
  11. I go by feel. If the bait isn't going where I want it, I try a different bait. The depths on the box are only in lab situations anyway.
  12. LOL @ Catt - ANYTHING from Roboworm in Aaron's Magic is the stuff.
  13. Jaheff, were you fishing for smallmouth? If so, Shaw's rule doesn't really apply. Sometimes the fish simply bump into your line. Happens all the time, especially targeting fish suspended in the water column.
  14. ^^^^^ what he said
  15. I need a few more pictures before I can make up my mind, LOL.
  16. Stick to the topic, ladies.
  17. The second two you listed are baits that have worked well for me.
  18. I was thinking the same thing, dinks. Or, it could be wimpy hook sets.
  19. I have two Smokes from a buddy that came from Zillions, a 100 and 150. He sent them to me because they just didn't feel "right." He's right, they don't feel right. Noisy little coffee grinders without much free spool. There's not much I can do to fix poor quality. After just the 1st two, I'm not impressed at all. By the way, I have had four other Zebco/Quantum reels come across my bench. Their automated, web based parts ordering system is state of the art. They seem to have repairs down to a science. It always costs, too.
  20. Dumb decision, bro.
  21. I catch most of my frog fish in the middle of the day, and I mean "high noon." The whole dawn and dusk thing is a myth, perpetuated by the fact that that's the only time people throw them. The best retrieve is an easy paced, walk the dog retrieve, over open water, just inches from heavy slop. Sometimes you have to go over slop to get to these open pockets. This frog excels at that.
  22. I'd wait for something better.
