A 6-6.5' spinning rig is a nice rig for shore fishing. It doesn't get in the way of tree limbs and shoreline brush. I also like a shorter rod for vertical drop baits, and topwater/jerkbaits. You have more control of a bait with a shorter rod.

The Preakness
I grew up around horse racing. Maximum Security slid over for sure. Whether it's intentional or not, who knows. The number 1 horse was impeded by that move. With 20 horses out there, and in those conditions it can get dicey. I think they got it right.

Action is the taper - Slow, moderate, fast, extra fast. Power is stiffness - Light, medium, heavy, and the in betweens like MH or ML. Yes, most decent rods have all the specs on the blank.

Close bail manually?
I close the bail and seat the line on the roller by hand every time. It's automatic.

Smallmouth baits non craws
If you rig them unweighted, as @NHBull says, they sail away from you. Great dock skipping bait.

“Slim” Senko?
Rig it any way you like rigging regular senkos. They work.

My fishing partner just signed his will...
So sorry for your loss.

Fishing Etiquette
Two rules the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Then consider the Platinum Rule: Treat others as they want to be treated. Have a little empathy for the other guy, and maybe we can learn to trust one another. You cannot make any generalizations or assumptions about why someone does something. It's a poisonous and toxic behavior. Using geographic location to explain away a behavior is off base as well. Using economic status - that shiny glitter rocket, or that little kayak - either. Shore or boat. Age, gender, color, whatever. This is fishing, people. It's not rocket science. Do you want someone reaching over your shoulder to grab something off the shelf while you're looking for your favorite cereal in the grocery store? It's not common sense, it's common decency. Get over yourselves - all of you. It just fishing. There is no such thing as "fishing etiquette." It's just etiquette.

Reel Upgrades
Most of the Revo line already have carbon fiber drags. I've found they respond really well to flushing with acetone and oiling with a quality oil like Bantam oil, Oust Metol, or TSI 321.

Happy B-Day Blue! Skated by two officers that waved at us as we scouted for spots. This one actually has a camera, lol. I mean, they're that worried about it? It's a Bingo hall parking lot, btw.

First bed fish spotted.
Way pre-spawn, lol. I'm hoping th ecolder weather prolongs that period where they're shallow, and chewing on anything. I'm sick of the the flip the switch, and they are deep one day, then hot weather, and on beds the next day, and it's all over in a blink of an eye.
