  1. Senko or reverse rigged Fat Ika are probably the easiest.
  2. Learn some better boat positioning, and your issues go away. Been doing the kayak thing for a while now. Boat positioning is probably the hardest part. For any cast, you want to know how your going to swing on the hookset.
  3. Replace it with Hemocuts. They don't get dull. Mine are over a decade old, still cut braid. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/uploads/monthly_2016_05/image.jpeg.42a5efefc88342c3bf9603eae2372a49.jpeg
  4. Wait, why is the fish behind you when setting the hook? I've fished from a kayak for over a dozen years, and never had an issue setting the hook, or not using braid, weedless hooks, or most of the reasons mentioned. Sounds like boat positioning combined with weak hooksets. Still haven't heard the rod specs, but I suspect it's a buggy whip. Anything less than a M/F rod will give you trouble.
  5. Yes, though he doesn't think brown fish count. He's a real character. His name's Marty Friedman. He's been on Lunkerville as well as Roland Martin's show. He's a darn good stick.
  6. This should be interesting. Let's see some photo updates as it progresses. This actually sounds more like a raft than a SOT. If you motorize, you'll have to register it. Good luck with that part. It's a pain with no hull serial number.
  7. It is the only region in NY that forbids bass fishing. The regional director believes that the bass population is in jeopardy there. Clearly he is misinformed. He's decided to go against the advice that a open catch and immediate release season would be fine. It works for the rest of the state. http://www.dec.ny.gov/about/613.html
  8. KVD was fishing right in front of my friend's house. He's not happy he figured out that spot, lol.
  9. There is a strong summer pattern. Also, that area is NY DEC Region 6, and bass fishing is forbidden until the 3rd Saturday in June.
  10. As long as you aren't promoting a product, yourself, or asking for subs, it's fine. Here's an example:
  11. You guys can find all the info you want on how to break the law. But, not here. We're done.

  13. I've been fishing from a kayak for a dozen years or more, never noticed a difference in my hookset power, whether on land, in a bass boat, or kayak. After the hookset, yes you can get tugged around by a larger fish, but not so much bass. I'm talking norther pike and bigger salmonoids. In fact, that's strategy, let the boat be the drag, and lock down if they run away from you. If they run down, let them take line. Outside of light finesse rigs, most of reels have line strong enough that a fish can pull the boat. Bottom line, 8# is too light for that bait, and it makes me wonder if the rod isn't up to the task of driving the hook point home.
  14. You want to make sure that you have removed enough old braid that you won't run into the connection knot. You could also take the line off, and add backer. A Uni to Uni connection is fine. A blood knot might be easier, and that would be fine too.
  15. OP: those are great shots of what had to be a real bummer. I had a similar experience with an OG HPH except the two trebles ended up in my shin. #swimbaitstrugglesarereal I don't think the kayak had anything to do with it, but 8# line seems mighty flimsy for a Keitech rigged weedless. This is not a finesse bait. I use 12# at a minimum, or 50# braid. Rarely do I even rig it weedless, as I prefer the hook up ratio of this:

Anyone in a boat should give a shore/bank fisherman a wide berth, unless invited by them. People on shore are bound to their spot, and are not afforded the same level of freedom as a boater. But, yeah if you want to invite a boater over, go for it. I've been flagged down and even invited a few shore guys on board after talking to them.
  18. I believe that is part of the maxillary process. The premaxilary process are the sliding parts the allw the lips to extend out. The maxillary process is the part on their face that controls all that. I'll have to look it up in one of my old text books to be sure though. Cool Question!
  19. Spit and an old t-shirt. Jeez man, take you're pearls off!
  20. Unless you're speaking of low end models, I've been able to get parts for Shimano reels that were over a decade disco'd. But, yeah as mentioned, just call Daiwa. I used to do about an order a month when I ran my reel repair business. Good people there, that actually answer the phone. Same goes for Shimano.

No one, no one, should ever mess with a bank fisherman's spot.
  22. Go straight to strike king's site.
  23. I can't remember the colors, but all we ever used were trolling spoons. Sometimes with dodger or a flasher, sometimes not. The last time I caught a laker was on Canadice lake. I use a one ounce slip sinker on a universal rig, and a salted shad. Before that, was on a little minnow, through the ice on a tip-up.
