  1. You can generally drop into a decent boat for around $60K. I think at the point that you are getting entry to national opens, and so forth, I would assume you are at least getting a pro deal (usually 30-60% off retail) on accessories like trolling motors, electronics, shallow water anchors, etc. I'd also assume you'd have a relationship with a marine dealer/installer. Developing those relationships early on is going to be really important. But yeah, price out a 2017 [insert major bass boat brand here] and you could be well out over $80k, fully optioned.
  2. Not exactly. DDG is really just a google search (was invented by former google employees) with no tracking, whereas dogpile is an aggregate search.
  3. I'm sure the no police will remove a passenger part is about bumping, not disruptive passengers.
  4. "Is there a doctor on this flight? This woman is having a baby!" "Uh, no. He left...." That's only way this story could have gone worse. Meanwhile, there's a lot worse things happening in the world. Try to be civil, folks. Be careful using words like "ignorant" and "foolish" when addressing others. It tends to amplify emotions.
  5. They've gotten away with overbooking for years. Another unusual part of this event is that negotiations about bumping happen when you check in, not after you're seated on the plane. I suspect some last minute screw up at the counter combined with some overzealous enforcement.
  6. Casting targets? I hit a jet skier, or I should say he hit me while cruising in my bass boat. He's lucky I was only going 25 or so. He just kept going. Followed him to his cottage, found his parents, showed them the scrape on the jet ski, and my boat. Needless to say, I'm glad he was alright, and that he was grounded from using the jet ski.
  7. That's the theme of the book, but the location deal was of primary concern. He would wait out the big girls until they fed if he thought he was at the right location.
  8. Have any thoughts on the topic?
  9. There's actually a couple good books on fish behavior. They are written in the context of aquariums, but some of the observation and hypothesis has insight. It's not so much that they do things in a tank that they wouldn't do in nature, as it shows what is possible. And where is @Paul Roberts for this one!
  10. They are a vertical monopoly. They provide everything point to point from fiber, to servers, to online experience, to the browser, as well end devices like Chromebook.
  11. Google is a monopoly. Use DuckDuckGo: https://duckduckgo.com
  12. I have friends that work for Maui Jim. Good company, and good products.
  13. I don't think there are any 12 lb. bass in my lakes. There are bass that are bigger than others, by a lot. There aren't thousands, but there's enough to see quite a few of these caught during tournaments by the top few anglers. Who knows about the majority that don't fish tournaments. Most trophy guys are tight lipped. Tournament weigh in events are just one way to get an idea of what the biggest fish in the lake are.
  14. Isn't that what you do when you buy them from Tackle Warehouse? So you're saying Essilar is a less corporate entity than Luxatica? I had a nice pair of Costas. They're at the bottom of Lake Erie. I buy $20 polarized glasses off the spinner rack at the local sporting goods store.
  15. I have a custom build on a Saint Croix LTB blank that is perfect for this size baits - it's a 7'9" Heavy Fast.
  16. I may bring several options in the truck, but only walk the bank with a couple things. I don't usually take much more than will fit in my chest pack. If I feel like I need something different, I make a trip back to the truck and reequip.
  17. Rich, you haven't been out pricing trucks lately, lol. Add $10K for a decently equipped work truck with a suitable drive train upgrade and towing package.
  18. Check the special regs for the Susky. Perhaps that's what he's referring to. The prespawn, spawn, and post spawn are where I see the greatest concentration of fish accessible from shore spots. They are catchable in all phases.
  19. I haven't had any issues with my 2500/3000 size Shimano reels and these lines: 6# Tatsu 6# Invisx 6# Sniper 6.2# Seaguar Finesse I've had issues with a few lines when I tried to go up to 8#. If I need greater break strength than that, I use braid.
  20. It might be easier to take a slice of the national data. Say, pick a state that has all this info easily available. I'm thinking Texas might be a good data set. Or a mixture of states in a region. I don't know of any one place that has all tournament info on a national level. You have to remember, there are TON of smaller (less than 50 boats) events put on by small clubs or opens. Some clubs and opens rarely post the results online. Good luck!
  21. Hope the fix is relatively painless, and you can get it running with better steering.
  22. I usually say hello to people on their docks. You'd be surprised how many invite you to fish their docks, or they reveal some special information. There's one nut case on Conesus that's very entertaining, though harmless. One thing you want to be careful of is in a marina. Many people sleep on their boats, and even if the marina is open to fishing, you want to be quiet in the early hours.
  23. If you go with a mobile/remote solution, figure in the cost of a waterproof case and some kind of mount. I like the RAM X-Mount and Lifeproof cases.
  24. I've never known anyone that actually paid for a first class ticket. The one time I was upgraded to it, so were all the others in there, lol. Damage control, from the airline themselves.
