Buck Perry Spoonplugging book
Actually, it's the only way I know to put a frog popper in the same patch of pads or slop, repeatedly without reeling in, recasting, and edging your bait into place.

Buck Perry Spoonplugging book
16'-17' boats, rods over 8' aren't gonna work with two anglers. I don't think fly fishing is banned, the rod length limit precludes it. Trolling is allowed in walleye tournaments. Almost as many boats in the pro events.

Reel oil vs reel grease
There should actually be vent holes in the bottom, back of the reel to let water out. Most are NOT sealed.

Its also a bit self-serving. "My methods are so good, they banned them!"

Baitfish lifecycle
Any local college library will work, and if they have a fisheries/forestry program, their book store will have a book on native fishes for that state.

How many States have you caught a Bass?
New York Florida S. Carolina N. Carolina Virginia Pennsyvania Ohio Massachusetts Maryland I think that's all of them.

Dropshot Knot Trouble
Then something else amiss.. knot is cockeyed or something, or there is a kink in the mainline. I know I've fouled up a Palomar more than once. Tough to tie on a rough sea with a #4 hook and 6# fluoro. If everything is straight, the through the top trick, with a slight tug will work every time. I like the spin shots, despite my skepticism of losing sensitivity, but they're even harder to tie on, for me, at least. Butter fingers....

What we like and think a rarely aligned to what a stupid bass bites!

Dropshot Knot Trouble
Uh, yes it will. It doesn't matter what way you tie the hook on. Pulling the line back through as illustrated above will guarantee that, when you pull on the tag end with weight. The ONLY way it would remain upside down is if you ran the tag through the back side of the hook eye. This is WHY we run the line back through the top of the hook.

Grand dads tackle
I have both, and whatever mood strikes me. If one doesn't work, I might switch to the other. SO, I guess I let the fish tell me what to use.

Drag Question
Oh yeah, forgot about that.... My Chronarchs already have a Carbontex washer under there.... You can use a little bit of leverage under there, but be careful. They do sometimes stick. I use both hands, index and middle fingers under the gear, and my thumbs stacked on top of the main shaft. If you don't get funky marks on your fingers, you're being too wimpy.
-
Dropshot Knot Trouble
First off, do not pull on the main line to cinch a Palomar. You did not thread the tag end back through as shown in the picture above.
-
Drag Question
1. Check that you assembled everything correctly. Sounds like something shifted when putting the crank side plate on. 2. You don't need to get the main gear off to swap out for Carbontex. a little drop of oil on the shaft can help with binding. 3. There is supposed to be a washer on top of the cupped spring washers.

Reel oil vs reel grease
More like used a band aid when you could probably used a couple stitches. You aren't ruining anything, but it might not be a long lasting solution. Many reels come from the factory greased up this way. A deep clean frees things up, adds start up speed and smoothness.

Didn't they ban trolling BECAUSE of Buck and the other spoonpluggers' success?

Up here, we have some shad, but there's also a lot of herring, e.g. alewife.

Not those baits, but I used to troll quite a bit for smallies on a seemingly featureless area on Lake Ontario. My only cues were catches. Catch three in a spot, anchor up, and start dropping tubes. These days, the game has changed a bit with gobies, though what I've found with better graphing is that there ARE MEANINGFUL STRUCTURAL cues, and the bite is related to those and bait fish movements. Those structural elements are often huge, but within those elements are sub-structures, only located with modern graphing. Buck would have been a monster with SI, lol.

Can say the same about an Xpress Hyperlift hull. It's NOTHING like a Tracker hull.

Reel oil vs reel grease
There's no right answer - much depends on the application, along with some VERY passionate opinions on how to do it properly. I've tried to write one a few times. Not an easy task.
