The A Rig
I throw 1/8 oz. jig heads on a five arm umbrella rig with a 5 power Dobyns just fine. However, I would not be married to any one thing a month before tournament day, no matter the lake or historical patterns. The rig might be the ticket, but then again, it might not.

Top Water Rod Suggestions
I use an Avid AVC62MXF. I like a shorter rod, with a shorter rear grip so I can use a downward twitch. The x-fast taper recovers from twitching quicker, and allows better control of the bait.

Never happened to me. The fluoro (6# Invisx) on these reels is nearing two years old. KVD L&L after every trip:

Pro Credibility
Many of the up and coming guys have a different style. One pro I saw recently (actually had to follow him at a seminar - tough act to follow, lol) and he was more about use what you know and like. He was specifically asked why he used fluoro for this, and braid for that, and he simply said he liked one or the other better with that particular rod. He stressed it had more to do with his comfort and habits than an actual preference based on science or even common sense. Even Boyd Duckett was nothing like the guy in the rod commercials. He was very thoughtful and explained why and what they did with their rods that makes them different.

If you ever get to see a pro do a seminar, it's quite a bit different than the usual "commercial" spots you see on TV. They're regular guys like you and me.

What's Your Mvp?
LTBC70MF or Dobyns 745c. Those two rods can do just about everything, unless I'm out drop shotting smallies. Then, it's the AVS63MLXF.

Yes - if they really explain the "tell" part. Pete Gluszek talked about pegging a 1/8 oz. tungsten weight to a T-rigged Senko on a light hook. It didn't really register on my radar until he described the way it fell in a random, loopty-loop on slack line. An excellent dock bait, different to the fish, and more efficient, time wise, than unweighted presentation that everyone else uses. And yeah, he's sponsored by Yamamoto, but he wasn't really pimping them as the best, just giving new insight on how they can be used.

Your Best Gear Purchase?
If we're talking rods, My LTBC70MF "Teaser." That rod is so good at so many things, I have two. Reels, honestly, I like them all. The two TD-X 103HSDL I picked up used on eBay for like $40 a piece are two of my smoothest, and for pitching, there's no better reel. Having that button on top, in a left hand form factor really simplified my technique.

Is This A 22 Incher?
You get about a half inch from squeezing the tail, so sounds like the fish is pretty close. It's a slob, for sure. Congrats! How'd you catch her?

Anyone Still Use Strike King 3X Plastic Lures?
I use the flukes specifically because they float. There are times that I want the bait to stay up. Put a heavy hook on it, and twitch and walk it on the surface.

I'm more interested in what a pro is doing than what they're using. Some of the better speakers have some really informative lectures. I recently got to listen to Pete Gluzek, and he spilled a ton of beans on what he was doing.

Memory foam like grips on rods might be cool. It would have to be pretty dense, though.

No, a spincast is still horizontal. I'm talking vertical, so the spool would be thumbed from the side. The Daiwa I'm referring to was something did over 20 years ago. It didn't work well, nothing like the T-wing, as it actually split open. The T-wing is much more elegant in that the guide itself has no moving parts.

Wacky Rig - How To Keep The Worm From Slipping Off The Hook
3/8 for the 5" I used shrink wrap, and it is the best in terms of durability, but it's a pain when you're in a hurry. It's best to pre rig them before heading out on the water.
