  1. I haven't tried a bullet weight, but they are great on a round jig head. I like to slowly reel them through flooded willows.
  2. Try jigs. If you are in deep water, increase the weight. I catch a lot of dinks with a drop shot. The size of the fish seems to increase with jigs. Bigger baits will help. Normally you won't catch as many, but the quality will improve.
  3. What lakes are you fishing? My lake (shasta) is the exact same way. A 10lbs limit will win many tour.
  4. I'm looking for a 6'8" to 7' shaky head / tube rod. What would you suggest? Please reply with a link to the rod you offer.
  5. You can use whatever you like. I prefer the lightest weight possible. Also, I use 10lbs braid with a 10 foot 6lbs flouro leader. The braid handles the line twist very well.
  6. Try searching the internet... Cabelas has them half price. You'd better hurry.
  7. Great video Glenn. That back handed cast with a soft landing is a tough skill to develop... nice legs
  8. My lake turns over in the fall and the shad get shallow and move into the creek arms. Find balls of shad and you'll find schools of aggressive bass. I live in a warm climate... it was 100 yesterday. Fall means different things to different lakes.
  9. Nice fish... That just might be enough to get me out tomorrow night. I'll be calling some fishing buddies in the morning.
  10. I thinking about getting a Shimano Crucial spinning rod for shakey heads and tubes. I would like to know what you think of this rod?
  11. I like to fish the full moon because I can see better. I do catch them around docks with lights. My best baits are cranks, spinners, jigs with rattles, and three inch senko with a splitshot. I think flippin would work better because the fish seem to less spooked at night and the darkness will hide the flaws in your presentation.
  12. That LM was the longest bass I've ever caught. I was shocked when I put him on the scale. I could see he was skinny, but with a fish that long... I was thinking more like 5lbs. It looked good, had no sores, color was nice, so I figured it must be dieing from old age or maybe a deep hook?
  13. 22" and 1.6lbs.... that's skinny. I caught a LM 24" and 3.5lbs and I thought it was dieing of old age. Your fish is the skinnest I've heard of.
  14. Thanks - I don't know the "official term" for the technique but we call it - snap tubing. Using a fairly heavy jig head (1/2 - 3/4) and spinning gear to match, the tube is casted out, allowed to settle to the bottom and then snapped up quickly. We're looking for a reaction bite. Allowing the tube to settle back to the bottom on a slack line usually works better and when most of the strikes occur but there are occasions when a semi-slack line or even a tight line swing back to the bottom produce better. I was marking some fish that were suspended out away from the drops between 25-30 feet. This "trout" lake has crystal clear water even the bait is down at 20 feet. On high sky days with little wind it's really tough going. I had been on the water at sunrise and started fishing shallower and worked deeper as the morning progressed. I was positioned off a main lake point out off the break and allowing the tube to fall on a slack line down the break to the bottom. The strike came on the third of forth cast very close to or right on the bottom. After this fish I worked the area pretty good and a couple like it without any takers but by then the sun was beaming and it was pretty steamy. I am so looking forward to cooler temps - won't be long. A-Jay Thanks A-Jay. I fish a "trout lake" often (very clear), and I like to do roughly the samething with 3/4 oz football jig and a hula grub. Next time I'll give the tube a try. Thanks for sharing.
  15. My fishing partner cast over my line non stop. I'll have to threaten to cut his line...
  16. Nice fish. Were you jigging the tube vertical... what was the techinque?
  17. I saw a Bass Pro Shop rod with a 60 Million Mod. Blank. That's the same rating as the top St. Croix and it only $100. My question is would it have the same senitivity?
  18. How do you fish your fluke Jr's? I've only used them for dropshots, but I've wanted to use them more. I'm thinking of putting them on a splitshot rig.
  19. The pflueger president is a great reel. They sell at my local WalMart for $63. I have one, and will buy another.
  20. Enough talk! Let's see some video. We'll know right away if you have the right stuff. I would like to see your banjo minnow videos. I hear they made you famous in your hometown.
  21. I like to use spot removers. Use the lightest weight you can get away with, so buy a few different weights. Robo worms are my favorite, but hula grubs work well also.
  22. Another benefit of using braid/fluoro leader is braid absorbs line twist very well. Fluorocarbon on your spinning reel can be a pain after a few days of dropshotting. If you fish your dropshot fast, you will get line twist. Braid will solve that problem.
  23. I fish two very clear lakes, and fluorocarbon is a must with slow presentations. I do use a 10lbs braid and a 6lbs fluorocarbon for my dropshot setup... and I love it. A double uni knot with a 10 ft fluorocarbon leader. Fluorocarbon will catch more fish in clear water.
  24. I think anything will work on a jighead. I like hula grubs, but I'm sure senkos would be good. Robo worms on light jigheads are good on my lake... real good The ika... not so sure. I would use a hula grub and fish the ika weightless.
