  1. Thanks for the help. I might need a torch to solder 6 gauge.
  2. I just got a new minn kota, but the power wires are too short. I need about six more feet. What gauge wire should I use? How should I join the wires?
  3. I'm still a backyard caster. I practice as much as I can. I put targets out in the yard and practice my aim with different weights, and try to hit different distances. I enjoy it like someone who likes to play darts or pool.
  4. I use the same weedless rig that is shown in the youtube video on page 1. WalleyWorld sells the weights for $1.50 per pack. I haven't noticed a difference in the fall, but the hookups aren't as good. :-/ I prefer an exposed hook, but sometimes it's self defeating.
  5. Does the zoom finesse worm float?
  6. I like to throw everything... even the kitchen sink. My fishing partner is always giving me crap about not fishing with what is working. There is nothing wrong with working with different baits. It takes time and practice to figure them out. Someday, when the money is on the line, you'll be happy that you took the time to improve your skills.
  7. Where are you finding this deal? I'm getting ready to buy some new interstate bat. and they are $129 each.
  8. I started using this setup based on Randy's advice, and I love it. Thanks Randy. My fishing partner is using it too.
  9. Kastmaster jigging it off the bottom. It is the smallest fish I have ever caught. It's poor little mouth was wedged open as wide as possible with treble hooks. Wacky rig: Try adding a nail weight in the head of the worm.
  10. I use small black or clear rubber bands that I took from my girls hair supplies. They work pretty good. But, if you don't at least double wrap them, you will lose your worm. Make sure the bands are tight. Small o-rings work good. Use an old pen to help get them on the worm.
  11. I used them last night with good results. I fished the thickest nastiest stuff I could find. I fished weightless and the hook was a 5/0 ewg. The best results came from swimming it in openings in the veggies. I would slowly drag it over the tops of the weeds and swim it when I hit holes. I just keep thinking what would a frog be doing, and tried to make the brush hog do the same.
  12. I'm looking for help learning about bass biology. I would like a website that details how bass behavior changes with air/water temp, time of year, and what ever else I can find about bass migration.
  13. Thanks RoLo, I'll give the Kalin 5.0" Lunker Grub and it's little brother a try.
  14. The funny thing is that bag of grubs had been in my tacklebox untouched for at least two years. I never tried them, but after last Sunday I'll be working them every chance I get.
  15. I was out on the lake this weekend, and the weather turned on me. For the last week, it was nice and sunny... And then came the cool windy weather. Nothing seemed to work. The bass were holding very close to wood. And then I tried something I saw on in-fisherman. They called it the smallest swimbait... a grub. I never fished with one before, but I had some Zoom Fat Albert curl tails in my box. They worked great on a 1/4oz. ball head jig. I reeled very slow through trees and willows, and I did pretty good for the conditions. Give them a try. Does anyone else use these? What is the best conditions and patterns?
  16. I like braid, and have started to use it for my light stuff also. I just use a 6lbs fc leader. The only thing I don't like is it floats. But the feel is so much better then mono or fc, I don't see myself giving up braid.
  17. That's when I start that gas thingie on the back. Good luck catching anything with all the motor noise, LOL! I saw KVD fish with his main motor on and steering the boat with his trolling motor. I think he won that tournament... but he does have good luck to go with his skills.
  18. I like to keep my jigs moving: draging, hopping or big hard pops with a heavy jig. I fish open water lakes with big rocks most of the time. I'll move slower with a shaky head and try to twitch it in place by shaking my hand like I'm very nervous... Works the best with a little slack in the line.
  19. I've decide to build a deck on the bow of my open bow ski boat. I'm going to use 3/4" plywood and carpet the whole platform. I need help with finding hinges to use for the storage compartments. I would like the hinges to be hidden or at least not sticking up above the plywood. I've seen a lot of nice builds on this website and I'm trying to tap into that knowledge base. Thank you.
  20. Hey Francho, What is that bait on the bottom row, third over from the right, and how deep does it get? I'm looking for a lure that I can work in the 10 ft water column, and fish in my lake love shiny blue baits.
  21. The last time I was at Clear Lake was April last year, and I'll be headed down there a few times between April and June. Last year I did OK in the keyes with senkos, but had my best luck with a spinnerbait fishing around docks. I caught a 15lbs 11oz fish... I called it a golden bass... LOL. I snagged its tail with a speed trap on my little compre 6'6". Holy cow I almost lost my pole. Try hitch colored jerkbaits.
  22. I like using 3/4 and 1 oz spinners in deep water. I cast out on points from shallow to deep, let it sink to the bottom (30-50ft) and slow roll it up the point. I would like to start using cranks more and I will keep an eye on this thread. Yesterday, I bought a dd 22, so I hope to get some good ideas. I love cranks in shallow water, but I need to learn some deep water applications.
  23. Do a little research on the internet and you might be able to get some ideas on what to try. The lakes that I fish in Northern California are deep water reserviors and the government updates water levels and temp. on their website it's good information. Also local bass clubs will sometimes have news letters with monthly fishing reports. A bass club in my area posts the top 5 fisherman of each tour. They also will say what they used and the type of structure. This one club has over a years worth of monthly reports. It would be great information for someone fishing new water.
