Reel For First Timer (5-1/2 yr old) ?
When my oldest son was roughly the same age, my father-in-law took him to the park. The park has a popular pond. During the week, the older fellas would be there trout fishing or just sitting, dunking worms. My son would asked if he could try. Usually that request is met with a "well, I don't think so." This time, the old guy says "sure". My son takes the spinning reel and gives a respectable heave. The old guy looks at my father-in-law with disbelief. "His dad is a fisherman", he says. Moral of the story? Test his dexterity with one of your spinning rods. If he seems like he will get it, start him early on spinning tackle and skip the spincasters.

Calcutta D Expert?? It has VBS?
I bought the JDM 100D. One thumb screw and the side pops off and there are the brakes. I am practicing in the yard testing brake settings. So far, I like three on.

Food for Thought
I was at a large fishing fleamarket today. One vendor had a 5'6' Med Fast Lighting Rod, Yellow and red wraps and a pistol grip from the 80's. Lot's of nostalgia. I almost picked it up for $15. It would have been really neat to fish.

Since I didn't predict any snow, I must assume you are speaking of another dave...

Favorite Commercial?
I keep watching this one. "I will sack this man so hard for you"

Favorite Commercial?
This commercial offends me. What if people start thinking you can put a weiner dog on a bun and actually eat a cute little weiner dog? I'm never using Heinz ketchup or mustard ever again when I eat weiner dogs. See that, now I think you can eat weiner dogs. Thanks Heinz.

Favorite Commercial?
Kind of liked Alec Baldwin and Dan Marino.

Road To The Super Bowl!
Nasty is an understatement... The two Panther tackles kept jumping off offsides. They had to do whatever they could to try to not let Miller and Ware around the ends. Has there ever been better bookends on a defense? Really talented. Not the prettiest girl in pop music but, certainly one of the sexiest. Pretty and sexy are not always congruent.

Biggest U.K. Fishing Rod Licence Changes Ever!
You should have seen the S*** Storm here in MD a few years ago when the DNR changed the number of rods that could be fished at one time by a single angler. I think (and I could be mistaken) that while fishing from the bank or shore you could fish three rods per person. What the DNR did, thinking they were simplifying things, was to make the rule apply to fishing from a boat as well. O M G! did it ever storm here. On the Chesapeake Bay, stripers are king. The rule change meant the guys trolling would be limited to three per person. These guys are experts, trolling nine or more rods at one time all by themselves. In very short order, the rule was changed back to the way it was but, man you should have witnessed the internet fishing boards.

Buying my first baitcaster...
I'd recommend buying good and inexpensive your first time. Maybe a H2O Mettle. Best inexpensive quality reel in it's class $60 not on sale. Or, maybe a BPS Pro Qualifier at the Spring Classic usually for around $65 with the trade it deal. These reels are fished by many here and there has never been a disatisfied user of either. Many, many a fisherman bought high and sold low after just not getting the hang of baitcasting reels. Learn and get good, then go higher dollar. My .02...

Get your prostate checked
There is now, a blood test for prostate cancer. My doctor told me that it is so accurate, that if you have the test and it is clear, you never have to have the "digit test" ever again. Unless you want the "digit test"...not that there's anything wrong with that... We have two in my office that go once per week. He doesn't understand how the doctor does it with both hands on his shoulders. He just figures "he's the doctor, he knows best."

Unpopular
I had actually thought of mentioning that there was a whole lot of posts that were needing to moved. It was very noticable. It must get tiresome for mods to have to keep moving threads because posters are too lazy to look to see the detail of the separation of the forums or to read the "read this before posting"

All gone.

Shimano Calcutta d
While I haven't fished with it yet, I've done a lot of yard casting. I have a 100D JDM. The way it feels while casting and retrieving is incredible. Once it is warm enough, I will take it to the pond and just see what it feels like throught the water. From what I have read, it's power and effortlessness while reeling in a fish is unmatched..

Catfish gut hooking problem
When using circle hooks, there is no hook set. The fish picks up your bait and swims away and can even swallow the bait and hook. As it swims away, the circle hook comes right out of the throat and hooks the fish in the corner of the mouth almost 100% of the time. Like bluebasser said, try a fishfinder rig on the bottom. Either way, circle hook, circle hook, circle hook.

Berkley E-motion Casting Rod
I was looking for spinning rods. I couldn't find the casting through the site. I had to google E-Motion and Cabela's. Maybe it's just the casting rods. Can't find spinning rods.

american english
I think the "aren't" is the tell in agreement with jrob78. Using "are" would have meant the opposite. If she had just said "no" with no qualification, it would have been considered more ambiguous and in need of clarification. And oh, welcome aboard.

East coast storm, how were you affected
18" - 31" depending on where you were in the MD/DC/VA. I got about 23" with drifts over 36"+. Doing the math, my son and I shoveled 2040 square feet of snow, and that is just the path I had to dig out of my culdesac to the street. That is not including my driveway and walkway to the door. I feel like I've been punched from my butt cheeks to my shoulders. Getting old is not for sissies. The business park where I work, cleared the main path between the warehouses and the steps to the building but, they piled the 8-9' piles of snow from the park, right in front of our door. I had to climb throught 3' drifts to get to the steps that they cleared. Although still a huculean feat, I had already included in my calculations, the depth of the snow. 24 x 102 x 10 = 2040. While my body certainly feels like I shoveled 4080, it was only 2040. My error in the post was not using the words cubic feet. I have been blessed with a large, strong body but, I don't want anyone to think I am Superman...LOL
