  1. There was also a lure called a powerpack back in the day.
  2. I tried 30#. While it casts okay, everytime I caught a fish or pulled out of a snag, there was some digging into the spool.
  3. I am looking for a digital image now. The person that caught, it caught it from a Kayak. He is the son of a writer named Joe Bruce. The are snakehead addicts. They've kept and eaten a number of times. They are not interested in records, only promoting the gaming nature of this fish.

Years ago when they first came out, a bass guide told me that he liked them because they were brass underneath. The red would flake off and the hook was a nice flashy brass color. Clear water I would say it could be seen and possibly help. Red is the first color in the spectrum to disappear. The deeper the bait in the water column, the more black (absence of color) it becomes.
  5. LTJers in the Chesapeake Bay are using 2500 series reels with 10-20# braid. It's all about the drag.
  6. We start fishing in April for spawners. Spider rig from a boat. 10- 16' cane poles. No reels, big shiners. Great fun.
  7. Officially yes. This fish was weighed, photographed and released.
  8. Bow fisherman are putting a hurting on them as well. We'd like to see some limits placed on them. They are shooting them at night and selling through the back door. Charles County, MD is holding a contest to rename them. One of the favorites is Potomac Pike. I guess it is a first step in recognizing that it is here to stay and let's start treating them as game fish. We have a customer that caught a confirmed 22# fish last year out of a kayak, the fish was 37" long.
  9. I read recently that it should be on the right of the hull for a right (clockwise) turning prop.
  10. I think you'd be surprised at the length and number of rods a compact car will carry inside. Unless you plan on leaving them in the car full time. If just heading out to fish, they'll fit pretty well going from front to back.
  11. I went through a bottle of Maker's recently. It was very good. I wanted to do a test so, I bought a bottle of Jim Beam. I only do ice. The Jim Beam was....bourbon. I drink a lot of Sam Adams. While Bud is beer...it's not Sam Adams. Same (to me) for the bourbon. I like Buffalo Trace. I almost went Knob Creek. I think I will when the Beam is gone. I am certainly liking the testing.
  12. 34 ounce sirloin and an even bigger prime rib at the Old Homestead Steakhouse in Atlantic City in the Borgata.
  13. If you are holding tension with a finger and thumb, move them up the rod a little further and make sure they stay pretty dead center to the spool. If you are holding it to one side or the other, you'll be able to actually see the pawl staying to that side longer and just barely hitting the other side of the spool, causing the line to pile to one side. Just make the adjustment with your finger and thumb and it should lay even. This of course assumes your worm gear and pawl are in good shape.
  14. Reminds me of the Family Guy episode when they show what happens when NASCAR goes to Asia.
  15. Blues are one of the best tasting cats. When they are a predator and not a scavenger, it makes for a better tasting meat. It is recommended that you don't eat anything larger than 33" because of the toxin build up. Low twenties are perfect.
  16. Blues grow really fast. I doubt if it is half that age. Apex predator that the MD DNR wants out of the Potomac River. We love them.
  17. There is a biologist on the Virginia side that says when doing shock surveys, typically no snakeheads are shocked up in October.
  18. Peg a round plastic bead ahead of your (insert favorite brand) buzz toad. It will act as a bumper through lily pads (especially spadderdock stems) and the eye of your hook won't get stuck in the notches or stems.
  19. Or never. Take a look.
  20. It's cute that you think this fine sport is going to only allow you to have ONE go to rod...
  21. Before their first fight, it was thought that Leonard would never be able to fight Duran toe to toe. He did and lost a close decision but, it was a victory to him in a sense. Second fight, Leonard's way.
  22. Most 3000 series reels are 2500 series bodies with a larger spool. Braid is the key. 15-20# - 2500 series. 30-50# - 3000 series. 4000's could work but, I think can tend to be a little large for a typical bass rods.
  23. The only issues I have ever had with a 30# braid, is line digging after a good hookset or pulling out of a snag. I went back to 50#. I fish frogs and toads on 30# braid and spinning gear (another thread) with no power issues at all.
