I use a lot of rapala husky jerks, smithwick rouges, lucky craft pointers mostly. Shallow & deep divers.

They are not aces but it is a good start for fall. Smallies are starting to move from their summer haunts. Caught everything on jerk baits but that is all I used. Water temp was 64-65 & mostly sunny with good visibility in the 15 foot range. Caught the biggest fish on larger baits. Can't wait for October & cooler water.

Instead of cutting down the weedguard by shortening it I thin it out by cutting as many strands of the weed guard as I need. Just use a pair of scissors and cut off some strands at the base where they exit the lead head.

My guess is that it is a growth or tumor. If it was a bite there would be damage to the fin as well.

I have the XC72MHM legend extreme factory rod & just had a custom rod built on that same blank. I use it for cranks, jerkbaits, traps, poping frogs, swimming jigs, plastic swim baits & spinnerbaits. It is a very versatile blank. Almost the perfect all around rod for multiple tasks. Even though it is moderate in action it still can perform tasks that you would ordinarily use a fast action blank for. Because its a st croix medium heavy it fishes more like a heavy power. Very forgiving for treble hook applications but very doable for single hook applications. I think the high end blanks cross over better for other applications than what they intended than you would find in lower quality rods. Its a more senstive blank than what you would expect from a moderate action rod.
