  1. i preordered one from JapanTackle on october 1. at that time projected delivery time to them was late october. ,lefty reels in november. schedule has now been delayed until november for my reel. i ordered cork knobs at start of covid. snafus hit with quarantine of all shipments worldwide. jun at japantackle refunded my money, even after having sent my shipment. months later when the knobs showed up i let jun know. he sent me a paypal invoice which i promptly paid.
  2. my favorite for over 40 years has been and still is the Zebco Cardinal 4. dependable is key word for me. i've had 4 stradics , never use them.
  3. i'll play. zebco cardinal 4 reel, shimano aero or speedmaster, beastmaster rods, rapala jointed minnows, lindy spinnerbaits
  4. if you have anything fishing related from chapman(1800's), you may have hit a jackpot and not realized it. $15,000 for an empty box years ago.
  5. i moved to hickory, nc area in 2000 from ky. i love the weather here!!!! snow makes an appearance a couple of times annually. temps are fine with me. i don't dealing with snow/colder weather(truckdriver-no fun being out on donner pass shut down). all a matter of perspective i guess.
  6. i'd try and try until mike pederson(riley rods) gave in and made me the grip. pac bay minima seat. fuji torzite guides/tip, MHX rod blank.
  7. i have the 8' version and am thinking about getting the 10E just 'cause. my 8' does well with a 34lb motor . i usually fish alone. i fish smaller lakes and ponds. go up some headwaters. i'm pretty satisfied. there are a lot of mods done to these boats.
  8. i've been trying to wear zebco cardinal 4's out for about 45 years now. still trying. have not had the first problem with any of mine. none. nada. i've got stradics that sit lonely, unused every year. i also have shimano, ryobi, penn, pflueger, quantum, etc. just going with what works.
  9. i'd sure like to see that from the bait monkey's perspective , ala: Steps: 1. Casts shiny topwater popper in quiet pool 2. 2 quick pops...3 slow pulls,2 quick....... 3? 4? 5help me out here i'm bored
  10. you now have a 6' 3" BPS finesse rod. 3" won't change things very much at all. measure your tip with a caliper. you will need to know size in 64th of an inch. drill gauge works well here. academy sports/walmart should have fuji tips/kit(with adhesive) to fix you up. alternate fix: get an old rod, take tip off it. put a big paper clip thru tip or use pliers. you can take a lighter or a tea light candle, rotate tip over flame about5 second intervals. you shouldn't use epoxy 'cause it is a pain to do repairs down the road. hot melt glue or arrow ferrule cement will work well.
  11. looks good. liking the color. did you make the lip?
  12. the little H & H spinnerbaits are killer for ky bass. heavy , small, fast dropping baits you can move slowlllly. found some here in nc at academy. Flatfish is my oldie but goodie. X4 or x5 in perch.
  13. shoot me a pm and i'll be more specific- even to the point of walleye location. i've fished eastern ky for decades.pike and letcher co. in letcher county there's really spooky bass in a certain lake. good fishing in streams in pike county with spinners(any color), gold rapalas, small crankbaits(under 1/4 oz.), Rebel craws, tiny torpedos(ghost/clear). 1/8 oz spinnerbaits. put your baitcaster up(for now). spinning gear is the way to go. stealth is a key part of fishing streams. breathitt county you have pan bowl lake but, the river has some fine fish in it. carr fork bass will go for model a bombers in fire tiger.
  14. perch pattern flatfish x-4 size I think. starting out as a young'un it was usually a spinner-rooster tail or shyster.
  15. check the 'BAY out. lots of new and used parts on there all the time. do a search for: ROUND EVA POWER KNOB FOR PENN DAIWA SHIMANO(around $16) . also search for Stradic Ci4 knob. several options.
  16. rebel crawdads have produced for years. i miss those waters. crankbaits will get walleye.
  17. dang it all, man!!!! you're telling about Pennzoil? there you've went and pulled back the veil of secrecy we had all agreed to back in the 70's. at least you didn't reveal the super secret Flatfish color and size. i agree with you on the importance of locating fish, for sure. i think i would do a bit better if i concentrated on just a few techniques/baits instead of the kitchen sink approach i've resorted to at times.
  18. for most people starting to make their first rod recommended strategy is to go cheap on the first rod. there are many little bitty things that can go wrong and do. misalignment of guides to reel seat and or spine. thread wraps look amiss. glue showing up in unexpected places, . cobbled up seat arbors. ad almost infinitum (first time I butched Latin!). will you have access to a local rodbuilder? lots of advice on forums. I sure do like making rods. it's fun, relaxing, definitely rewarding. two great brands are St Croix and Sage.
  19. IMO the ned rig looks like a big ol' water worm. probably a larva of some sort. looks like an elongated goose turd. dark gray about 1 1/2" long or less. a bit thinner than a pencil. eastern ky. creek fish will bite til it won't stay on the hook.
  20. I built a swimbait rod from a batson sw967 blank. 10 1/2" cork rear grip,6 1/2" foam fore grip, pac bay reel seat. 9 guides and tip. Fuji hookkeeper. use a 6500c on it. fun fishing it. not all that heavy either. nice rod, even if I did make it.
  21. SIMPLY PUT: what he said!
  22. i have around 2 dozen zebco cardinal 3, 4, and 6 and garcia cardinal c3's,c4's i use constantly, dependably trouble free. have used them since the 70's. in about 40 years i had ONE screw coming loose, ONE winding cup replaced due to appearance, one spool cracked and replaced due to spooling machine tension. pretty much covers the need for spinning reels for me though i do have a couple of stradics i think i'll use for ned rig fishing, maybe. edit to add this: with the dual bail spring setup i have never ever had to change bail springs. NEVER
  23. on my last trip, I had four outfits. three were my own builds and one was an old shimano speedmaster. building your own sure lets you get what you want.
