  1. So I should glass the exterior and the interior? More less for strength? I'll try to upload my design here in a few. Thanks. I'm going to go with two stationary pumps. Maybe 3 - stern compartments, bow compartments, console.
  2. After this rather chilly weekend we can expect strong spring temps by Tuesday. Temps for week coming are forecasted in the 50's and 60's. Maybe some of these lakes and ponds will finally free up. Its getting rather irretating.
  3. I have successfully drawn out 16 foot jon boat plans and will be constructing the core today and tommorrow. My question is regarding fiberglass and gelcoat. Fiberglass: what weight should I use? If I use a 12 oz biaxial can I get away with only one layer on the hull's exterior? Should I glass the interior or just waterproof it? Gelcoat: Is it neccessary? Also, I plan on decking this boat and would like to install 2 bildge pumps. If anyone knows how I can set these up to keep the compartments dry I'd be happy to hear. My original thoughts were to let all water flow to rear of boat with one bildge but if water accumulates in underneath the front deck how could it flow out? Ha. I was then thinking of two pump locations with long hoses on each that I could extend and pump water out like a shop vac. Suggestions?
  4. Fly fishing rules. I saw this dude once catch a 23 pound striper using 3lb test and I didn't know what to make of it. Where I fish for trout though, flies, terrestrials and inline spinners work the trout out of the water. Terrestrials at night land me alot of browns. I cannot seem to catch a brown during the day. Lots of brookies, lots of rainbows, but where the heck did the browns go? :-/
  5. OK. Just saw the weight and size and that photo does no justice. Thats a huge Rainbow!! Kick ***.
  6. A. That's a big rainbow trout.......... 20 inches? 2.5 lbs.? B. Caught with ultralight!? I'm nervous catching bream on ultralight! Hell of a job man. I've been angling for trout for 15 years and I'll admit that must of been tough. Let me know how you prepare her.
  7. Merrymeeting River is awesome. I've caught several 4-4.5 lb largemouth and some huge pickerel. A ton of yellow perch which just make alot of people angery but not me. I eat em. I take my canoe with a trolling motor. I saw a duck hunter with a small gas outboard. I don't believe there are restrictions, but I thought the duck hunter was mad! There's alot of high vegetation and even my trolling motor was getting jammed up. Best places to launch: Rt. 11 Public Access - about a quarter mile past the New Durham intersection on the left as heading north. On Merrymeeting Rd. heading toward the lake, about 1500 feet before Bracket Rd you can launch either side. The closer to the lake you are, the less vegetation to deal with. Need to know about rivers,, I'm the man.
  8. Right on with the weather there. For Georgetown, MA: Friday 3/21 - High near 40 Low near 20 Saturday- High near 41 Low around 19 Sunday - High near 38 Low around 22 Monday - High near 42 Low around 23 And most of NH looks to be frigid and we're not even close to being iced out. Rivers are still frozen! I work in MA so I'll just hide my rod in my truck and go on lunch. Does MA sell one day licenses online>?
  9. Yeeeee Haw New Hampshire. I can't wait for ice-out and trout fishing on the Swift River!!! and smallmouth fishing on Merrymeeting Lake. Get your rods and tackle out!
  10. I think in some areas you have to have it calculated and a "work sheet" needs to be made using complex calculations and a formula. You might want to look at the United States Coast Gaurd website and snoop around and maybe call someone who can calculate it for you. Maybe Marine Patrol will do it.
  11. Hester has it! 7 foot med - light action. I use a 2 to 4 pound test. Buy some lil joe in line spinners.
  12. Hello fellow New Englander and welcome. You should check out Cabelas.com. You'll find everything there including carpeting which is really cheap. Good luck with the new boat and fish New Hampshire.
  13. Key, don't fish for the trout until a couple days after its stocked. And don't fish the area where they dumped the fish in. Use beaded nymphs and once casted take your time and work the water. The goal is to look as natural as possible but still attract the fish. I use bumble bees, streamers and nymphs. I've never fly fished a lake before so I have no idea where you should target. If it was a stream or river, I could help ya out. Here's some patterns you should check out.
  14. OK, a really inexpensive solution here. Leave it in the water. Yup, take the topper thingy off of the truck just one time to transport it to the water and then leave it there. Chain it up with a lock, maybe buy a cover for it, etc. I have one of those pedal boats and they are not that heavy. Its 100% plastic.
  15. I see all of your points and I just called the kid and cancelled the drop off. You all made some very good points. Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to swap some skis and a canoe for a jon boat now. We'll see how that goes.
  16. I'm not entirely sure what's going on with it. The guy I'm getting it from says it had a Merc 3.7L but he removed that, the outdrive, and transom. But in the pics it looks like the transom is there. I have no idea how inboards work. I'm guessing on "inboards" the engine is mounted in a compartment not visible. The outdrive is what? Like a drive shaft that spins the propellers? When this guy described it to me he said there's a 9" by 11" sqaure hole in the transom. So I don't think the entire transom is removed. I think they just removed the engine, and outdrive and all of the interior. I'm basically getting a bare naked hull. But its free delivered and everything.
  17. Explain the transom thing to me. What do I have to do? Why can't I just buy a new transom? I've refurbished and renovated plenty of things but never a boat. What do you think I should do? If I went out board I'd just have to fiberglass the transom?
  18. Considering the color............ name it "La-creme".
  19. Heres the shell. I believe its a 20 footer, not sure of beam. The transom was removed. My plans are to remove EVERYTHING from the interior and set up a stern deck and a bow deck. In the center will be all controls and I want to put an inboard motor in and have the steering in the center. 2 bilge pumps, deck mount trolling motor, live well (maybe two), a crap load of compartments, I've got a ton of new ideas for this boat. Any input or suggestions would be very helpful for me since I've never done a boat before. Thanks fellas.
  20. I have the shell to a tri-hull mfg. coming that I scored for free. Any opinions on tri-hulls? This will be a project boat so I'll have more pics and questions to come.
  21. Thanks fellas. Hang in there. We'll all be fishing soon. I went out and bought a couple of fishing games for PS2 to hold me over for now. I also set up a target zone with red spray paint in the snow outback and from my deck I practice hard. I also read a bunch from this website and learned a few things about bass anatomy that I didn't know before. Figure I should land more than usual this season. We'll see. I need to find info on trout anatomy. Hehe.
  22. I need to go there! Tho the swift river has some monster brookies, I want to try something new. I'll do my best to post any and all catches this season and any recipes I gather.
  23. Personally, and this is maybe just my strictness coming out, but I think that some states should deem large and small mouth to a catagory maybe named "sport fish" and make it illegal to not put the catch back unless for tournament purposes (which they will go back anyway), or its a trophy bass that has ambushed the bait and more than likely won't survive (wall mount or food). In my opinion, this wouldn't be a bad idea for areas with decreasing bass populations. As I stated before, no way would I eat bass. I've also read that bass along with other slow growing species tend to have double the amounts of mercury at 12" in length than other species like trout, crappie, bluegill (delicious). Yellow perch is delicious and its actually encouraged to bag them in alot of states. I make my locally famous Fish-Ka-Bobs. In order on skewer: Montery Jack cheese - zuccini - perch - squash - red potato.... and repeat.
  24. Good call on the Panther Martins! Get gold and silver. If you still get no bites, throw a small dillie on the hook too (mostly for scent). Work the pools and calmer waters. Slow, bouncing retrieves near bottom. If you are catching and releasing, make sure you wet your hands before you handle the fish. If you plan on eating them, PM me and I'll tell you exactly what to do to have everyone thinking you're a GOD!
