i like to use the powder paints they are really easy to use, most stores with a big fishing section around here have it.
  3. I don't know if i have any of the eyes i made because i decided they didn't work for the bait i was making but i will check later
  4. Jitterbug, scumfrog, or hula popper. I would go with all three
  5. try a tube instead, they won't pick at the tail as much but still some also they won't get hooked very often because of the larger width.
  6. I use hollow ones around thick weeds in the heat of the day when nothing elso works, just move it slow.
  7. using bluegill for bait is illegal in mn... I get hit by them alot even on spinnerbaits, poppers, and crankbaits. THey will hit alot but i would stay away from plastic if you can't tell them apart from bass, eventually you will be able to. Also the senko type bait or a tube is the plastic they hit the least for me. And look at the supper sunny spinner by renosky its a good bait. Also try a sunfish swimbait it could work good.
  8. I was messing around and made some simple 3d eyes. All you need is some epoxy, food color, and something to make a mold out of. First i don't know if the liquid food color will work, i don't think it will i used a concentrated paste that i had in the house. So all you need to do is make a simple mold in the shape of the eye you want. I used some soft clay stuff (you could even use playdough) i had something with the general shape of the eye i wanted and pressed it into the clay and your done. Next mix some epoxy however you normally would. Take a toothpick and dip it in the food color (just the tip, you don't need much at all) mix the color into the epoxy. Now put the epoxy into the mold you made. I didn't mess around to much with this but you can most likley add glitter foil or a pupil now or mix it in. Let them dry and wash them off. You can make them in any shape or color you want. This could help out some people who are looking for a different shape eye or color.
  9. just a idea cut the barb or buy some barbless hooks incase they get hooked
  10. your gonna have to count my state out cause it is frozen and not bass season
  11. i would think it needs to be a big fly so they can see it. most i catch are on something that is a combination of shinny, loud, and fast.
  12. i feel you its the same here in MN and you can't even target a specific fish while its out of season. and right now no game fish are in season :'(
  13. hula popper
  14. i use the scum frog alot and it is great but have never tried the popper
  15. you can also use birds that feed on vegitation to find grass or other cover from a distance
  16. the lake in my town has a green color to it but had very few weeds. it was from the chemicals and stuff from farming and lawns. the fishing is still good although i hate fishing there
  17. They work in MN so they should there to
  18. scum frog is one of the best
  19. i would say don't kill them and leave them there (that could be a mess) and i don't think you should kill them unless you are going to eat them. But i do kill bowfin (i call them dogfish) because they are a rough fish and the dnr in my area wants to get rid of some of them. They prey heavily on the game fish
  20. thats a nice crappie! i don't fish them alot but in i know thats a nice one... any pics? i might be able to guess wieght from that else use the fish calculator thing in the tackle box. you need the girth though
  21. i like to use corn for blue gills
  22. i hope my lake doesn't have any of those! although they found a piranha in it (mn) ;D
  23. i wouldn't go to big they usually take all of it anyway. and it depends on how big the fish are you are goin after with the size of the worm.
  24. if your looking for a small lake there is one called spitzer (i think) that has some big ones in it. the guy i know has caught a couple six# and at least one over seven. it is a very small lake though
