What are some cheep, yet effective swim baits?
i had some of the strike king and didn't like them, some of the other brands are better you just texas rig with a wieghted hook cast out and reel in. im not sure what the one i have now are but i like those they have alot more action. a good cheap option could be mattlures minnow http://www.***.com/http://www.***.com/descpageSWMMATT-MLSD.html for 2.99 i just got a couple packs and they look good but i haven't used them, if they are any thing like the baby bass they will be great. http://www.***.com/http://www.***.com/closeouts.html there are some of the hollow belly ones one sale here too.

Mattlures question
only way to tell is ask the fish if you think the scent is bad add some other sent to cover it up, i use megastrike on my mattlures but it sounds like jj's magic has a very strong sent and if you get some clear that could be a good option to

fireline fused vs. new crystal
i really like fireline but i used the crystal once and did not like it, might have just been the batch i had but it seemed thicker stiffer and i broke it with my hands while taking a backlash out so i haven't tried it since. Might not be bad but i don't have confidence in it anymore. never had a problem with the black tho. BTW i was using 20lb

Devcon Epoxy
When i have done mine i don't turn it at all because i don't care if there is a little more epoxy in one spot because they are for my use, but they will look better it you turn them. what i think you could do is put some wire through an eyelet on each side and have one piece go to a swivel attached to a wall or some thing and the other side goes to the drill and let it spin very slowly for a while, or what has worked good for me without turning is do one side at a time. just set it on the table with the side you want to work on up then brush your epoxy on that side and half the top bottom and sides then just let it sit there. If its pretty much a flat sided bait it will just level off, this could show lines where the epoxy from one side meets the other tho im not sure. another option is to do each section seperatly and spin them on the drill.

Round VS Low Profile
I started using a baitcaster about two years ago and i am decent at it now i started with low profile reels and my best one right now is a pflueger purist but i recently bought a round baitcaster abu garcia 6600bcx i think and i get almost no backlashes with this reel. I still get a backlash every once in a while (more than i think it should) with the purist. Now the question is- are round reels easier to cast without a backlash? or is it something else? are the more expensive ones less likly to backlash? or was it because i was using 50lb powerpro instead of 20lb fireline? any ideas? because it seemed ALOT easier to cast me round reel when compared to my lp, i could even cast my scumfrogs with this heavier setup just as good as or better than my lp.

buying wood for a slow sink lipless swimbait
if this is your first one i would just start with some scrap 2x4 that is what i use- no idea what type is the best. As for foiling what do you want to do? foil and then paint over it? or do you want to do a photo finish so there is a picture on there?

Some Swimbaits
Doing it this way is pretty easy, just make sure you use aluminum foil tape, the first time i used this shinny duct tape that was very thick and it looked pretty bad, on the big one i tried normal aluminum foil but one side was non-stick and it peeled off after a couple casts wich led to me refinishing it here http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1219177312 and a used some tape that was made for lures and it doesn't look great around the edges, but i got the aluminum foil tape and tryed it on a stick bait and it was so much easier. Just start off using the right stuff and it will make it alot easier.

First attemp at foil
very nice! but did you use 5 min epoxy to seal it? it looked like there was a tube in the pic of 5 min, if so you should probably put another layer of 2ton (30min) over it just to be safe

Refinished swimbait
Ya i just found the right type of foil tape after i had it epoxied the stuff i used was thicker and not sticky enough but it looks great through the paper you can't see it in the pics but it looks alot like shinny scales. it could have worked better but the tape pulled up the paint so it wasn't sticky on the edes thats why they were so bad. but i don't think the fish are going to care if the edges don't look great and if they don't neither do i

Anyone use firewire
I very rarely fish rocks so maybe your line works good there but it is not good for what i do. I have never once had a problem using fireline on that same combo that i had US on. I saw the fish as it was coming towards the boat then it decide to stop and try to hold in that spot and it did- because my line snapped. A fish that is less then a pound should not break line that easy.
