  1. Start with poppers or propeller baits. Unlike cranks, balancing them is not as critical. Even if you're a little off, the weight to the trebles in the belly and tail would correct faults. Just a thought.
  2. yup, i always have some metallica on for the drive im sure if i was fishing by my self i would be more likely to listen to my ipod, but i probably still wouldnt because i'd need to concentrate on my fishing. Metallica rocks!!!!! Master... Master...Master of Puppets... Sa-na-ta-rium!!! Fight fire with fire!!!8-)
  3. I choose not to for the same reasons as you. Besides, taking in nature' music is better. But in the car, on the way to and home, that's a different story.
  4. Nothin'. Ain't got time to eat... ;D (ref. Jesse the body in Predator, "I ain't got time to bleed." ;D" Usually some coffee and a doughnut or two that might make a police officer proud.
  5. I read that article and while I'm no expert, I can't see that as a benefit. If anything I believe it would add undue stress to the rod, not to mention make it look ugly. I wonder of warranties would be voided with such moves. It doesn't seem right nor worth the risk. Better to get the right rod for the job.
  6. MaxDal, Thank you! That was a very informative tutorial. 8-)
  7. The Tails of Inline Spinners are a good option. I think streamers are another option. This is my "Patriot" Red, White, and Blue Deer Tail. Musky Delights.
  8. I know....I know..... But making money sounds good as well. If it was a 200 size than I probably would keep it. Not sure what good the 300 can do to me. I was thinking about swimbaits but than I have to buy another rod/lures. So it will cost me more money in the long run anyway. :-/ What a steal! If you don't need it, I'd buy from you for $60. ;D It seems like it would be excellent for targetting musky and salmon. I've had a chum salmon spool my Curado 201D when it was at full capacity. I tipped my hat to the salmon and shed a tear, but it was the best and longest (22 min., I timed it) battle I ever had with a fish even though I lost.
  9. That therein lies the crux of your problem and I too have experienced snap swivel failure. Simply put, swivel snaps are just not reliable unless you're tagetting smaller fish, but even then I don't trust them. I used to used them until I realized that they were costing me. The only time I use them is when I am field testing the inline spinners that I make or when I am drift fishing to salmon. In the latter they are used to hold lead and they aren't a part of the fish catching equation. The duo lock snap suggested is an excellent option. I subscribe to direct tying when possible. I have used the snaps (not swivel snaps) with great success and they have been reliable. They will also make it easier to "walk the dog" too.
  10. With my Rod quiver, I take at least three now and maybe four. Without it, two. One casting, one spinning. The quiver enables me to keep all of my rods with me and each right by my side and I can carry up to 3 with one hand. Even though I bring that many, I am starting to notice that 1-2 rods get the most play and some never even get picked up.
  11. There are a number of threads that addressed this that a quick search for "red" ought to bring you to them. I am also of the sentiment of gimmick for "bleeding" red, but I used to buy red hooks 'cause they looked purty. ;D
  12. 2500 sized reel of your choice and the compre. I have the 2-piece MH compre and it serves me very well. I think you will be satisfied with the 2-piece compre of your choice.
  13. You're not alone. I am a jig virgin so you're probably better off than me. The drop shot was the most effective technique for me last year, but I'm putting it away this season until I give the jig as much time as I did the drop shot. Sorry I can't offer any advice since I have none to give, but thanks for starting what will likely be a very informative thread for jig virgins. ;D
  14. ej, another great idea!!!! creating a jig to make a popper (okay, poor play on words ;D) May I use your picture? Also, what program did you use to make your mechanical drawings? Thanks for taking the time to make such clear and easy to follow illustrations. 8-) -ib
  15. For the price, they are tough to beat. Shop around though. I bought my MH Spinning compre (2piece) for about $54. The senisitivity is there, but as the owner of a crucial and compre I will say that the Crucial is more sensitive. With that said, my MH Spinning compre is sufficiently sensitive for even the subtle take of the drop shot, even as a two piece rod. Mine is also mated to a symetre.
  16. What is wrong with horizontal storage? I use 3 sets of hooks to ensure that the rod is level and balanced and so that gravity has no greater influence on any particular section. To date, all of my rods are as straight as the day I bought them. They are usually stored without the reels on them but the reels were on since I just got back from fishing.
  17. I think they make their own line of rods and reels, but that is a guess. The 6sxi reel is sweet and is a part of my arsenal.
  18. Simple hooks you can be at any hardware store. Mine are up in the garage out of sight and mind of potential thieves. It also prevents them from being an eyesoar to the Mrs.
  19. You're about where I am, but not every rod has a reel. And you do need help, help with acquiring more stuff, like me! ;D
  20. Wow!!!!!! I like all the rods but #4 is way cool. It reminds me of the chessboard I made back in 7th grade industrial arts class. The rod rack is beyond impressive. Awesome work, KB!
  21. Thanks guys! Snapper, That is an excellent idea. I'll definitely have to work that in. I could do a Homer Simpson "Doh!!" right now for your awesome tip. 8-)
  22. Awww, Shucks! By the sound of the title, I thought you were the one providing the tutorial. ;D Wooden swimbaits are out of my league. Hope someone chimes in or you might find some information at www.tackleunderground.com
  23. Not only all of that, but if you continue casting with only one hand, that hand will fatigue more quickly without the support of the other hand.
  24. Great question! May I ask as a supplement, how does it fare in murky or stained water?
  25. Raul, Excellent advice and post. I wonder if there might be a connection with the closeness of Easter and the resurrection of old posts for the benefit of all. I tend to be aware of my surroundings and take in everything too. It seems we have learning on our own in common as well. I think I just need to catch up in the acquisition of Japaese Domestic items. ;D -ib
