  1. No doubt. As a shore angler, I concede that I have never caught a bass in the winter. It doesn’t help that most of the lakes in my area close on October 31. Can you believe that?!!! Once in a blue moon, I’ll go to a lake open year round fishing in the freezing cold know full well it’s a near zero chance to catch anything and the times it’s so cold and I’m feeling miserable I wonder why a left a warm bed and wife to bear both the cold and a skunk.
  2. Congratulations! I’ll tell you the same thing I told Josh Smith. Enjoy the ride. Cherish it. Get her princess pole now, and Pink tackle box and sunglasses too. I still have my daughter’s princess or Barbie kiddie pole that has caught so many fish. ?
  3. Nice idea, but that wouldn’t be legal in my state, generally speaking... unless you buy the additional permit to fish with two rods simultaneously, and it is only valid on selected lakes. ☹️
  4. The DS is one of my most productive techniques hands down. What rod, reel, line are you using and what environments are you using it in? Other things that people might overlook are: 1) tag length 2) weight 3) technique 4) no fish in the vicinity
  5. Lucky craft Sammy practically walks itself. Spooks are cool too.
  6. I remember i thought I’d try back reeling. I really screwed up while battling a salmon, and said screw that. I’m using the drag, lol. More power to you if you can do it. I know when to cut my losses and love on, lol.
  7. Great job both of you. I’m getting nostalgic right now. My daughter was about 5 when we started fishing. She was and is a great angler. She learned to use spinning gear at 6 and casting gear at 7. She didn’t fish with me much in the late middle school and high school because of other activities, but we went fishing for the first time in a very long time a few weeks ago. She caught the first fish as usual, and she usually catches something before I finish tying my rig up. We just realized she caught her first largemouth. We’ve always targeted smallies and other species that it is hard to fathom we never targeted LMBs ... as she grew up. WEIRD! She just turned 21 this week. I’m nearly in tears right now, just thinking about. Enjoy the ride with your daughter, my friend.
  8. I try not to, and usually never have to for bass fishing. But when I’m battling bigger species like salmon, sometimes my “drag by feel” setting is a little in the short side and I might have to use that technique until I have the opportunity to correct my drag setting, lol. This is a rare road I travel.
  9. Sending prayers your way, Koz. Things will turn around for the better. Hope your dad gets better sooner than later.
  10. Hope your property isn’t harmed.
  11. That’s why I stopped pitching after that strikeout, lol. I’d rather do the Mickey mantle than give it up, lol. J/J. I just liked playing other positions more. Honestly, I don’t know how catchers who have to catch the ball for knuckle throwers in the MLB stay sane with the wild randomness of that pitch. As for me, it’s been 34 years since I donned a glove or swung a bat in league play of any kind. I’d probably throw my arm out after just playing catch now. ?
  12. Speaking of BB humor, I love this: @Sam - great question. When I first started playing, I was initially terrified of leftie pitchers. I practically threw in the towel and prayed to get walked, lol. It probably stems from getting hit in the ribs by a lefty. Then I got over it later when I realized as a RH batter, balls from RH pitchers could trail away from me thus a tenant tiny bit more work for me vs. LH pitchers where the ball kinda can come toward me (speaking to the ball, “come to papa ‘cause I’m going to smack you over the fence”). @Koz - Did you learn to throw a knuckle ball? I had a buddy who could throw one and they are so cool to watch when I’d catch for him. We weren’t in any team we just played catch for for but I was a really good catcher in my day, one of my favorite positions to play.
  13. I remember striking out the best hitter in our league when I was 11 to win the game, lol. He whiffed hard on his 3rd strike. And Tiger Woods ain’t got nothing on the double fist pump I made, lol. Yeah, BB was simpler then, but the kids these days are bigger, faster and stronger in every respect of the game. Koz, I think it’s cool you were a pitcher.
  14. I love baseball. It’s practically the only sport I can think of where they pay you millions to get an F. In school if you got 3 answers correct out of 10 questions, you’d receive a failing grade. In the MLB, if you could hit the ball 3 out of 10 times, they just might offer you a contract and a couple million. Love it! I know what you mean. Growing up, when I used to play, we just talked about batting average and era. Now there are lots of funny looking stats out there like slugging percentage or something like that and whip and I’m thinking my how the game has changed, especially for the kids. Near immediate access to stats when a volunteer parent records everything on a tablet. Back in the day it might take your coach a week or two to see the stats if he even had time to do the math, lol. My son played in the major little league only one year and he was a natural (with a little help from me, as I was a good hitter back in the day, lol). His coach put him in 9th being the new kid on the block. After a few weeks, his coaches noticed he was batting over 400 and moved him to lead off where he stayed the rest of the season. Only two other teammates had better batting averages and all of them were playing since tee ball. I wish he didn’t quit, because to start baseball that late, most will sink instead of swim. I gave him the same get paid to fail argument unique to baseball, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the game. ?
  15. I know the feeling. Two other movies that come to mind that are like this for me: 1) Star Wars - hoping somehow Obi Wan force dashes to the milenium falcon instead of sacrificing himself 2) Enter the Dragon - hoping that Williams (Jim Kelly) beats and kicks Han’s cheating a$$ with an iron hand. “Man, you come right out of a comic book!” Love that line The Perfect Storm was a good movie with a deflating ending.
  16. Glenn, we got away with murder tonight, but a win is a win, lol. I think you need 11 to that 5. Go hawks!
  17. I find it hard to believe that the ugly stik play any role in the CB “misbehaving.” Very unlikely. It’s slower action would probably suit quite well for cranks on the hook set to boot. The two likely possible causes could be that the lure might need to tuned as bluebasser pointed out, but I think we can rule this out. The second possibility is the speed of the retrieve and the reel’s line recovery rate. I noticed that some crank baits do not “behave” (while some work at all retrieve speeds) well when the speed of the retrieve is awfully high. Check to see if there is a difference in the line recovery rate between the two reels. This might be the culprit if your retrieving was faster than slower. With the weather in the Pac NW, this is the time to look into such things to pass the time away until the spring, lol.
  18. Thanks for sharing. Great sound. I don’t think I ever heard of Preston Reed and now I’m going to look for more. ^10
  19. Much respect for how opera singer have so much power in the voices and good classical (orchestral) music. Big like! 9/10. I digress to bring it back to good electric guitar master as those mentioned earlier. Sometimes, it makes me forget how awesome acoustic guitar playing can be. If I had 1/8th of Alip’s skills, I be a bad mofo, lol (I am not a guitarist)
  20. I’ve noticed it for myself and will concur with you but it’s only my experience. We know lots of our brethren here catch a ton of fish with it, but not me and I’ve given braid more than a fair shake. I say this as one who likes many of braid’s traits. And with that said, for me braid has caught the least number of fish. I too am a shorebound angler. I don’t hate braid at all and I am not knocking it, but thems is my results, lol. You can credit that to braid’s near zero stretch. You just have to adjust for that, I.e., ensure that they take your offering AND they close their mouth, lol. It’s even worse when I witness the take. I’ve seen them suck in my rattletrap like a vacuum cleaner inhaling it completely and I have yanked my bait away before they even had a chance to close their mouth. The other thing as a shore angler is that 30# braid (which is what I’d use) is tough to break off. It’s easier to break off 8# mono than 30# braid when you’re snagged, lol.
  21. I saw a notice that you made a reply as I was finishing my post. I happen to agree with you with regard to XL and Elite. However for me, XL in my area is just easier to find. One other thing about Sufix in general I’ve observed is that it resists acquiring memory longer than other mono. Memory in mono doesn’t bother me at all even if it can at times look unsightly, lol.
  22. Welcome to the U.S. of A! No need for a leader if you are using mono. As already mentioned, look for a mono that is more on the supple side vs stiff. If the cover permits lighter wire hooks could make the hook set easier when using lighter lines. There are a lot of excellent monos: Trilene XL Sufix Elite Big Game Stren These are just of the few great monos that are quite economical.
  23. Awesome work! Just might have to come over and bake come French or beer bread and some cinnamon rolls that would Cinnabon a run for the money. I find it funny how the man’s stuff is classified as “junk” and the wife’s things are not and it doesn’t matter what their stuff is. My wife just bought a kayak, and I need to clear my “junk” to make room for it, lol. It took me a few years but I finally got the hint about hints. ?
  24. Absolutely! All forms of honey do this or that are acceptable, lol.
