  1. Not surprising, lol. I live in WA state too. Local lakes stocked with trout can quickly be emptied of the stickers fairly quickly by anglers and if they’re present, bass. ?
  2. Add WA state to that list. Bass haters. I love. These same people moan and gripe about the natives hogging all the Salmon and steelhead and that they’re almost. They are a bunch of self-hating, self-righteous folk. Why do I love it? Because it leaves all the bass to me.
  3. The only thing I can think of is the drag. You will find a dial on the reel that your thumb or other finger will turn to increase or decrease the reel’s drag setting. The drag is typically set to 25-33% of the line’s weight/strength rating. That is all I can think of with regard to a setting.
  4. The lesser shimanos do but are under your lower price limit. Are you in WA state?
  5. Me too. That rapala knot is for the “hey dummy, you forgot to put on a split ring” moments.
  6. I like to use on cranks that don’t already have a split ring or duo lock snap on their nose (like some rapalas and hence the rapala knot). I just threw a swim jig (fish body with jig head) for the first time last week. It didn’t even occur to me to use it, lol. I can see now that it might help with the action but I really didn’t notice anything bad with direct tie. I’ll be observing that next time.
  7. I use the rapala knot which falls in that category when I need such a loop. So yes, when needed.
  8. Hello. Always wanted to fish the Columbia. Glad you also discovered the joys of battling smallies. If it were a drug, the FDA would ban it, lol.
  9. That is such a neat story! Thanks for sharing.
  10. Just because you get a bc reel doesn’t necessarily mean you have to “give up” using spinning gear completely. This is an opportunity to expand your fishing horizons and add to your arsenal. Fortunately for you it’s never been easier to learn how to use a bc reel. I’m not kidding. My base line is the curado so if you buy a reel in that class or a comparable daiwa, you will pick it up quickly. I guarantee it. ?
  11. Did you have any feedback with influence from you? If something was tugging when I didn’t put any pull on my end, then I conclude it was a fish. I hate those think you got something and it even feels like feed back but its a snag. The one “snag” I really don’t like is snagging derelict line. Sometimes it “pulls back” like a fish, lol.
  12. Glad to see you’re well and back!
  13. I love to use both. I do however see them as tools and my shop teacher taught me back in 6th grade two things that have stuck in my head: 1) Always use sharp tools. They’re safer and easier to use. 2) Use the right tool for the job. For example, I utterly dislike that if I drop shot with casting gear that I have to pull a lot of line off just to help it have a better more natural descent usually if what I’m fishing is deeper than normal. But if it’s like 5-8’? What’s a few tugs? 9 times out of 10, I will use the reel that is best suited for the task at hand. Of course every once in a while I won’t. I might throw a 1/8 inline spinner on my curado for kicks. I might throw a rapala DT 6 on my spinning rod. Thanks, Mr. Kaufman!(my wood shop teacher) ?
  14. Get the compression band or sleeve. You’ll be blown away. And you’re right on it taking months to heal. I know because I’ve been through the healing process. You’ll be glad you did and your elbow will be happy (Bob Ross reference)
  15. That’s more like it. I’ve been in that position many times. Just having fun with this. For some reason, I enjoy it when fellow anglers here go through this process to determine whether or not to add more gear to their arsenals. ?
  16. Bruh, Declining the excuse to acquire a new rod when the opportunity presents itself? You’re monkey ? must be dormant or the dark side force users on this site are slacking, lol. There is a slight chance the rod might feel overtaxed but given the .25 overage, You should be fine. Only one way to find out. Give it a go.
  17. Is it truly your elbow or for lack of not knowing the right name, your forearm right below the elbow joint (I call it the Bruce Lee muscle, lol)? If it is, then you might want to try a compression sleeve. They really work. One fishing outing I fished 6 straight hours and while my mechanics are sound, jigging a 1-3 oz. lure really put a number on me. The next day I fished the same way but it was cold so I put on arm warmers. 4 hours into it, I noticed I was even sore or tired in the same area that was fatigued. It had to be the arm warmers. I wound up fishing about the same amount of time but no fatigue. The arm band Jig Man suggested would also help (good for warm days and summer) but the full compression sleeve could help in also keeping warm if needed.
  18. No line is immune from line twist on a spinning reel, period. The best you can do is to minimize it. I bet you already went through those tips here. ? To the OP: From one overthinker to another, yes you’re overthinking with you concerns about line twist. ?
  19. Nice. My kids don’t fish with me anymore. One lost interest and the other is too busy. But we have our memories. Nice job keeping him in.
  20. Now look what ya done did. My monkey is parroting those words. Hey, (to bait monkey) where’d you learn how to say NRX?!
  21. I made my own over a decade ago out of wood. If I had to the smarts to market it, it would have been very similar to the rod runner. I call it my rod quiver. I designed it to hold 3 rods but you can hold more depending on the shape you choose. I initially planned to make legs for it until I realized I could just prop it on my bag. It will also stand upright on level ground.
  22. I KNEW I should not have clicked on this thread. Bait monkey ? woke up and is rattling his cage. Quietly exiting this thread ... to look at these rods ... rods I don’t “need” but the monkey ? wants. Thanks, OP! ?
  23. What I learned over time is that certain lure types and colors work better than others and when I did, it helped to reduce the amount tackle I really “needed” to be effective. I too am a shore angler and that flambeau bag looks very impressive. I have a lesser model flambeau backpack over a decade ago for $10. I also have a small BASS bag I’ve been using for years. I recently bought a small okeechobi bag from Walmart. my backpack holds the plastic boxes and the smaller bags the soft plastics and I only take what I think I need. I really like that flambeau you posted and that Shimano bag. I’d probably choose one of those two to have one bag to carry it all, and in the darkness, bind them. ?
  24. Welcome home!
  25. That is a natural trait for fc on bass sized reels and wirey the fc, the more it is likely to do what you described. The highest I’d personally go is 8# and it has to be a more supple fc like invisx. Things might have changed in fc formulation such that what you and I experienced may no longer be true. It is why I recommended to the OP to try what he has and share his findings with the group. But if I were a gambler, I’d bet ... lol.
