Anyone ever buy a boat through Bass Pro Shops?
I have a Nitro boat that I absolutely love but the service at my local BPS is absolutely laughable. After warranty issues are expired make sure you have someone local to do your repair/maintenance work. If I told you of my experiences with BPS service you could never make yourself believe me. GREAT BOAT/TERRIBLE SERVICE

Camp Mack Report
I started a thread a couple weeks ago regarding boat break-ins and tackle theft reported by folks staying at Camp Mack. I just returned and feel compelled to report my personal experience. Neither I nor anyone else during my week there had any problems. My cabin was very nice and comfortable with a driveway next to it where I could park my boat and hook up to power. I didn't even need an extension cord, it was so close. Although I had arranged for a boat slip, the ramp was convenient enough to simply load up at the end of the day and tow a couple hundred yards to the cabin making it less likely to be broken in to if there was intent. My Florida trips have always coincided with a major cold front and this was no exception. My son and I got in a couple good days with weather in the hi 50's to lo 60's and managed to catch a number of "buck" bass each day with the number diminishing each day the weather got colder. My boys' goal for this trip was to catch a 6# bass as he had never caught one larger than 5 1/2#. We did a lot of pitching to grass and pads (almost exclusively) and a pitch to a small isolated patch of pads produced a heart stopping, Iaconelli hollerin', 9.25# "BIG MOMMA" bass of a lifetime. I'm gonna figure out how to post pictures on here and proudly show you guys. Probably not a big deal to some of you fellas but to this Northerner it's Moby Friggin' Dick. Anyway, if my original post created any concern or made someone think twice about going there, I apologize and I can happily say that Camp Mack is a great camp and well worth the effort. I know I'm going back.

Bass Pro Shop list...?
Dang Dave, I thought I was the only one that bought the weights one at a time. That stuff blows my budget fast. When I go to a fishing resort over night, I leave my rods in the boat but I take my Tungsten weights in the cabin. ;D

Touche' But seriously, I'm pretty sure you're going to have a great time, and will love Camp Mack. There's also an outside chance that we may meet, I'm at Camp Mack fairly often. Roger Lookin' forward to it. I'll arrive on Sat.,2/6 with my son. I'm 6'6" and 300# and have a gray/black beard. My son is only 6'1" and 240# so I let him carry the gun. Tom

Camp Mack Resort
First time to Kissimmee, JB. Last year I fished the Harris Chain and 2 years prior I fished the St. Johns river out of "Bass World Lodge" I had no problems nor did I hear of anything to be concerned about. Thats why this stuff about Camp Mack surprised me.

Camp Mack Resort
Please realize, I'm not trying to offend anyone and I'm certainly not trying to cast a shadow on Camp Mack. Hell, my stuff could get ripped off right in my driveway. Maybe I'm gettin' paranoid in my old age. The reports I saw on Camp Mack I stumbled upon while checking out the area on Google Earth. If you zoom in on the area and click on the Camp Mack indicator, a site opens up that is called "Trip Advisor" and it lists a couple "Traveler Reviews". One was dated 5/9/09 and the other 5/13/09 and they both report the same thing---the break in of a dozen boats at Camp Mack one weekend. That ,coupled with the article on page 12 of the Feb. Bassmaster mag , simply woke me up a little to todays realities. I'm a big boy and I'll be damned if I'll let some petty thieves ruin my fishin'. I was just looking for more info and perhaps if some of you weren't aware, just lettin' you know what I read. Anyway, just tell your bass to watch the hell out cause I'm comin.

Camp Mack Resort
A team of wild horses couldn't keep me from goin'. I guess I was just looking for reassurance (which you kindly provided). Fishdaddy, when you stay there, do you leave your boat in the water or pull it up near your cabin??

Camp Mack Resort
I'm booked for a visit to Camp Mack soon. I'm reading all kinds of stuff about constant break-ins and theft of fishing equipment and electronics from boats parked in front of cabins in well lit areas. One guy said the local police told him this happened all the time ,especially when there was a tourney or when the camp was full with just recreational fisherman. They make it sound like an epidemic.Like most of us, I've got more gear than I need in my boat and certainly more than I care to pay to replace. Anyone got any recent info? I'm nervous as hell. :-/

Don't worry about your wife killin' ya---70mph should take care of that.

Rodents in my boat!!!!
Take a few old socks and put about a hand full of moth balls in each one. Spread the socks around the boat, in each compartment, under the console, and a couple back in the battery compartment. Works for me.

Hydrilla spraying on the Kissimmee Chain

Bilge Pump Question
Not so simple huh simplejoe ----thanks for the response buddy.
-
Knot or not
I just read an article where the pro was touting flourocarbon line for a certain application and recommended a "double improved clinch knot" to tie on lures. I've always heard the best knot for flouro was the "palomar knot". What do you guys say?

Bilge Pump Question
I have a 2005 Nitro 882 and I want to change out all the pumps this spring just to be safe. The live-well pumps are readily accessible but the bilge pump is mounted,(with very little clearance), under the gas tank. Anybody have the same boat that has changed out their bilge pump and can let me know what I'm in for?

Strike King Zero stick bait
I've used "zeros" since they came out and I think I still have the first one I used. You can't kill these things. The action/shimmy is as good as any IMHO but I think the feel or texture is much better than the others I've used. Like someone else said, the start to become more and more bouyant with use. Once they start to float I like to throw them on braided line into the pads and twitch them slowly back to the boat. They also make a great "carolina rig" bait as they float along off the bottom behind your weight. The only issue I had was learning the hard way not to have them come in contact with other plastic baits. Just my 2 cents.

Aluminum boat leak
I gave my son a 1988 Tracker Pro 17 when I got my new Nitro 882. The Tracker takes on water pretty good and requires running the bilge pump several times during the day.I can't see anything obvious causing the leak. I have even filled the boat with a hose in the driveway to see where the water leaked out. Nothin". Based on how quickly the boat takes on water, the "hole" must be significant but I can't find it. Anybody had a similar problem?

Finding lead
I just started making crankbaits. For ballast, Ive been using some XPS finesse weights that I have for dropshotting. They are cylindrical and I have 1/16oz to 1/2oz weights. Not sure if they come bigger or smaller. I'm not understanding why anyone would go to the trouble and expose themselves to the hazards that exist in dealing with molten lead. What am I missing? Like I said, this is new to me.

masking cranks for painting
Real rookie here. What do you use to hold scale masking in place for painting?
