What frog for Heavy lilly pads
Spread a little clear silicone sealant where the hook enters the body of the frog. Works like a charm.

Nitro NX 882 SC?
I bought my 882 in 2005 for 23K. It has a Merc 150 XR6 and I absolutely love it. I had actually signed papers for the 750 but when I took my Dad to see the boat there was the 882 right next to it. He convinced me to spend the extra$$$ and the salesman was happy to re-write the contract. Dad is gone, but I thank him every time I go out for changing my mind. Its rated for a 175 HP max but the 150 will run over 60mph. More than enough for this ole boy. Good luck

Trying to learn Harris Chain, FL
I just returned from 2 weeks on Lake Harris. I don't know exactly how far it is around the lake, but I think I flipped/pitched every inch of it. I talked to a lot of local fisherman and a couple bait shop owners on a regular basis. They all claimed the weather (cold fronts) had put the bite off and that I was doing the right thing. Just needed a few days of stable, warm days (and nights) to raise the water temp and things would greatly improve. Water temps while I was there ranged from low 50's to low 60's during one day. I don't think I've seen our northern waters fluctuate that much in 12 hours. I did manage my PB, 8.25#, and a 6-10 among the dozen or so bass I did catch but they were hard to come by. I came home to find my Bass Times in the mail with an article about a late January tourney on Harris Chain where 30# bags were a regular occurence. Like they say----timing is everything :-[

Lake Harris----Leesburg, Fla.
Heading for Fla. this weekend. I'm driving down from Ma. and towing my boat. The condo I rented is on Lake Harris and includes a boat slip. Apparently, I can get to several other good lakes by way of canal and/or locks. Any suggestions or advice on how to fish this water would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

line life-----------
How long should a spool of mono or copolymer line last if stored properly?

Fishing Ruler storage
I bought some velcro( hook and loop) material, put a narrow strip of the hook material at each end of the ruler. Then placed a larger pad of the loop material on the fiberglass at the front of the casting deck. Don't make the strips on the ruler too wide or it will be too aggressive and hard to remove easily . The material I found was self adhesive. No drilling or hardware and it works well for me. Hope this helps--good luck.

Trolling motor battery life
I just went through the same senario. Turns out the seal in the lower unit of the trolling motor leaked and water got in to the electric "guts" of the unit. This causes an inordinate amperage draw and consequently shortened battery life. Eventually the unit will burn out completely. Most likely right in the middle of the best fishin' day you've ever had. P.S. The fix cost me $180 for a 70# thrust Motorguide unit.

Dark Brook Reservoir?
Anyone have any info re: this body of water located out around Auburn, Mass. ? Thanks in advance.

Another trolling motor question------
I've got a Motorguide Pro 70 24/volt trolling motor going on it's 4th season. At the beginning of last year, I'd get about 4 hours of use and the power would be nearly gone. Barely move in top speed. Tested the batteries (load tester) and sure enough, one of the batteries was bad. Replaced it and all was well. This year it's starting to act the same way so I figured the other battery needed replacing. Load tested both batteries again and this time they test out fine. I could take my boat back where I bought it but they're so busy I wouldn't see it for a month. Anyone suggest what else I can check. By the way the connections are clean and tight and there is no fishing line behind the prop. Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't mess with mother nature??????????
I hate to break this to you, but fish kill fish. When an over abundance of pickerel start to take a toll on bass fry or stunt bass growth because of over competition for available forage, I simply was wondering about action that could be taken that would improve the situation for the bass.

Don't mess with mother nature??????????
One of my favorite local lakes is full of pickerel. The large mouth bass fishing is pretty good but I keep thinking that if there were less pickerel competing for the forage, there would be more and larger bass. Don't get me wrong, pickerel can be fun to catch and, on those real slow days, I appreciate any fish that wants to give me a tug. But I get ticked when fishing in a tourney there and you can't get passed the pickerel to catch a bass. Anyway, I've been thinking about a little "kill and release" for some of these toothy critters but something inside keeps telling me this isn't for me to fool with. Any feelings pro/con?????

Best Bass Fishing
I'm from Massachusetts which ain't the Bass Capitol of the world. However, and I still have a hard time believin' it, the state record LM bass is nearly 16 Pounds. I aqree that there's a biggun right in your backyard where ever you live. Certainly there are areas in the country where growing seasons are longer and florida strain get bigger quicker etc.etc.etc. But don't give up hope if life don't let you stray far from home.

Northern-strain Bass vs. Florida-strain Bass
I took my dream trip to Florida a couple years ago. Now, I don't consider myself a great fisherman, but I think I'm a good fisherman. I fished Lake George and the St. Johns river for 10 days and I don't think I caught a dozen bass. And none over about 2 1/2 pounds. When I got home(Massachusetts) the first week of March it was still real cold but a week later we had a warm spell and I went to one of my favorite local lakes about 15 minutes from my house. LOADED THE BOAT. Including 2 over 4# Now I'm screwed cause every time I start to talk about another fishin vacation to some exotic place that I've read about, my wife reminds of this. I guess those Florida bass just did'nt realize who they was messin with.

67 bass in 5 hours
Still can't beat good ole dynamite to load the boat.

Catch and release or keep to eat
I've been catching and releasing bass since long before Ray Scott made it popular. Mainly 'cause I ain't never been hungry enough to eat a bass---yuck. Now, if a walleye or rainbow make the mistake of biting my hook it's "catch and FILLET."

cutting the belly open
Why not just look at what you tied on the end of your line. Thats what he ate last.

Cost of your fishing trips ???

Sure things about bass fishing!
You will hook the largest bass of your life the day you leave your net in the garage. :-/

I'm better now-------------
Its been a loooooong winter (again). I've read all my fishing magazines so many times I can recite them word for word. I have re-reorganized so well that I'm afraid to move anything now. It looks so perty. I have used my dremel with a small wire brush to remove the rust from all my hooks( I now its easier to replace them but I NEEDED SOMETHING TO DO.) I've designed a number of ingenious new lures that, oddly, all resemble a 4 inch piece of broom handle with hooks ( red hook in the front of course). I drove to the ramp on my lake a couple weeks ago and it was still all ice. A week ago, you could see the open water out in the middle but the cove where the ramp is was still ice. Yesterday the ice at the ramp had melted out to about 40 feet from shore then there was about 150 yards of ice out to open water. I came home, loaded my gear, hooked up to the boat and headed for the lake. My intent was to back in and run the motor with the boat on the trailer. Fired her up and , after all the smoke settled, she was purrin like a kitten. Then I snapped. I drove the boat off the trailer, pointed to main lake and set off at headway speed for the damnable ice flow that seperated me from my beloved open water. My 18 foot bass rig proved more than a match for the remaining 2 inches of ice. I inched toward the main lake leaving broken shards of ice in my wake like an ice breaker in the arctic. A small crowd of others who come by the lake on a daily basis to check how much ice remains were whistling and shouting encouragement as I plowed on toward freedom and my first casts of the season. I fished for 3 hours, caught nothing and froze my tail off but, I'M ALL BETTER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
