Re: LOOKING FOR NEW BAITCASTER

Recommended Posts

My suggestion would be the Quantum Catalyst PT. It comes in both Left and Right hand version and in either 6.3:1 and 7.0:1 weighs 7.5 oz with the 6.3 taking up 27"lpt and the 7.0 taking up 29"lpt

Another suggestion would be last years Quantum Energy PT but most people consider them to be a little heavy.

I know the Quantums catch lots of flak here also but I haven't had any problems with mine at all.

You can probably find a Curado 200 E7 NIB for $150.

I bought one last week. If you are really interested in

spending less, the Citica is a fine reel, too.

8-)

why does quantum get soo much flack here?

theres a few reasons, one being personal experiance alot of ppl will tell you on here or most any other tackle site that Quantum stuff don't last long, breaks often and easy and their customer service is noted as being the worst out there.Ill admit there reels look nice but looks aint everything,if you dont know Zebco the king of spincasters owns quantum zebco is a HUGE company so youd think that quantum (zebcos cadilac line) would be par none, but ask alot of guys on here or go read reviews on other sites and youll see what ppl go through with quantum reels breaking after 1 season ALOT of problems with gears grinding and then their famous customer service  ;D ...thats just my opinion,im sure others will agree or disagree but you buy what you like and what works and performs for you i guess and for me quantum dont work or perform.

Revo Sx or STX, or a curado, or look at the old tour edition or new energy by quantum.

The best advice I can give you is to physically hold the reels you are thinking about or try to fish them if possible to get a feel for the reels.  In you're price range I have found most of my reels on eBay.  I have bought, all for less than 150, 3 pflueger patriarchs, pflueger supreme, 08 and 09 quantum energies, a revo s, a daiwa sol, and a curado e7 and e5.  I personally fell that any of these reels will hold up and get the job done.  It seems that these days 150 will get a reel is well built and will last but still affordable compared to higher end reels.

dude i dont know y quantum catches so much crap but i have never had a problem with them... i have a few accurists that are like 3 years old and still run like a champ.. and my energys are great reels! all you have to do is take care of them as with any reel.. i have actually had to send back my curados back more so then any of my quantums... but it all boils down to personal preference i suppose

I agree I have never had a problem with my Quantums and liked them enough to switch my baitcasters from Daiwa to Quantum and just my personal preference. I have an old Quantum Incyte not the new Silver/Red model but an older Blue/Silver model and I haven't had one problem with it at all.

Again boils done to personal preference and what works and my Quantums work with no problems. I do have Shimano and Daiwa reels also but the Quantums are my go to reels.

I would go with an Abu SX or S. And if you don't like those. Bass Pro shops have some AMAZING reels. such as the Pro Qualifier.

why does quantum get soo much flack here?

No flack from me, it's all I use and I have never had a problem with Quantum reels. I also own a few Tour PT rods and they are great rods, maybe not G-Loomis great, but great none the less.
