  1. I think i can see why you don't, Raul
  2. Brother I was right there with you up til this year. I went through 3 summers of worthless fishing...well I should simply say learning what not to do until I finally hit the nail on the head on what should be done. This summer I've been able to put stringers together from 10 to 15 pounds every trip. Its a beautiful thing after so many years of rough summer trips. You'll get it down next summer. Until then enjoy Fall fishing. Mottfia
  3. Spinnerbait and buzz bait, covering water. Those are some of the best conditions for that type of fishing. Mottfia
  4. its also a solid color for Spots! Mottfia
  5. One of my first memories is being on a boat with my family and daddy handing me the rod with a 4lber on the other end. We have always made the day on teh lake a family event. We would ride when we got tired of a spot and swim...with floaties...when we got bored. Alot of times it was just cool to be outside. Daddy would also put a few fish in the livewell to eat from time to time and we would play with and watch them. That was always fun back in the day. But nothing bets reeling in a fish. You can let them use crickets and catch bream or you can hook the fish and give them the rod to reel in. Daddy said it was a funny kin dof scary to watch us reel in big fish with his tackle but he never lost a rod to us being too weak to hold on. Thats a chance you could take that could really spice it up. especially if you're on a ton of fish. The last thing I can say is be confident and positive about them loving fishing. If they came from your genes then they should have the bug in em too. It will show up in time Mottfia
  6. Nope. I'm the guy that was there the day before, and I have a scale and a camera! ;D YUP, me too!!! Let me guess, you have a bridge for sale too? lol With ocean front property in Arizona Mottfia
  7. I have played with both of them in a number of shallow water situations. I like a regular jig swimming over a chatterbait but it is only because I feel more confident with a jig. For me a swimming jig and for my dad the chatterbait is a backup to the spinnerbait. We will use it if the fish aren't reacting to the blade or conditions aren't right. tho they are great first sting lure for shallow bass. I have seen a match fishing show where one guy was fishing mid to deep water with one. He was using a simple slow roll but was pounding them. Mottfia
  8. I've got to go with buck brush, cypress, and new laydowns...ok so its not really vegitation in the sense that yall are talking about but its what I have and what I have is awesome Mottfia
  9. Definitely a Jig. Its suits my style. I can fish fast and cover water extremely well. The biggest factor to me is that it brings a level of confidence to me. Not because of the old " it catches more quality fish" but because when I do have a jig bite on then the elements are in my favor and I feel like I have a chance to win. Its just the opposite if bite is a slow drag across points with a c-rig, I wouldn't feel as though I was the top guy in that contest. another reason I chose jigs...I don't fish senkos Mottfia
  10. Braid on cranks? I heard of some guys trying it in heavy cover. Mono is typically the best fit for most cranking applications. Honesty for me Mono covers all my work. Mottfia
  11. I agree with RW. I also like a solid chartreuse on those dark cloudy and rainy days. Mottfia
  12. Exactly. In addition, a "year-round" holding site would also provide a spawning flat and nursery area, thereby offering optimal population dynamics and recruitment. These two quotes might be the simpliest way I have ever seen finding fish holding locations termed but its dead on. I think we have hit all the complicated reasons of why...so why not have an easy version of the same textbook Mottfia
  13. Bluegills, for instance, can be found in dense vegetation, broken veg, wood, open water, shallow or deep. You would choose a diff lure or presentation for each. Water clarity and sky conditions would affect this too. I think location specifics and conditions dictate method and lure choices first. Then there's finding the proper approach angles. This, with method/lure choice I call "gettin' in". Trying to match forage is really difficult, esp with large prey in stillwater -I'd call that part of fine-tuning. Just the way I look at it. You're right Paul. I left my first post alittle broad. What I meant by "forage seems to dictate location and lures" is that the bass are their because of a high concentration of food. The lure choice also comes from the cover that the forage is around. The central idea in my way of thinking is food. Its not just to focus on color, its also about establishing a pattern. Mottfia
  14. I guess it depends on where your from and how big your fish get. Here in Alabama, a 6 lber would qualify for being mounted by most guys. Mottfia
  15. Looks to me like the biggest factor is the forage. The forage seems to dictate location and lures. Mottfia
  16. 1) paca chunks 2) twin tail grubs 3) pork chunks haha I like Bankbeaters response. I've used lizards on jigs before because I didn't want to throw out the plastic. Sadly that black, blue, red, and green flake monstrosity of ajig caught a four pounder that day lol Mottfia
  17. I figures I would see more flipping and pitching votes. My Votes goes for the blade. ;D Mottfia
  18. sure there are days where the fish are in a negative mood and won't hit anything unless it sits in his face for a while. And on those days I will struggle until I slow down enough. But thats extremely rare for me... I believe in getting my lure in front of as many fish as possible. I also hold alot of confidence in my lures and how I work them. So I believe that when I get my lure in front of a fish I will get a bite. That makes it a matter of figuring out where they are. On those days where the bite is slow and I know nothing about a lake, I have the benefit of being able to see many different sections of the lake. I have been lucky enough to be able to see simple cues like baitfish (rolling on top or on the graph) or birds in an area to tell me to slow down and check things out more. Fishing fast is in my blood, my dad's blood, and every fisherman in my family's blood. Its how we are wired Oh yea, doing teh research Catt posted about never hurts either, no matter how you fish Mottfia
  19. Can I say wow!!! Thats is the best informational that I have seen about baitfish ever! Thanks Matt Fly Mottfia
  20. Using Search baits is as much a throughout bait as using slower presentations..if your mind set is right. Its a process of elimiations. Just as Catt is looking to find where the bass are holding that piece of structure, I would be looking to find a set of circumstances that can be duplicated throughout the lake in the shortest amount of time. Its simple pattern fishing. ;D I'd cover alot of water, which would include different types of structure, cover, water depths, and presentations. The idea of using search baits and then slowing down with plastics works great any time that the fish are stacked up. Pre spawn, summer, winter,...almost all year on a river Mottfia
  21. I'm not sold on this one Catt. We're talking about the development of the mind. I will say that if you mind is not completely dedicated to being the best then you won't reach your potential...but then again you never wanted to in the first place. But a man, whos mind is dedicated to being the best, can take it as far as his oppurtunity allows him. That oppurtunity is time, money, and great teachers. If we could fish everyday with the intent on learning then we would get exponentally better at everything fish. The money allows is to pay the bills A great teacher really boosts the learning curve. He/She would be the one to give you your base understanding of bass and even model your train of thought. Imagine if a guy fishes with Catt for a few years. That guys style and train of thought would begin to mimick Catt's. Then if he were to fish with me, he would begin to develop in my style and possibly find a way to combine our different ways. The guy would then have a solid understanding of two fishing situations and have an understanding for the mindset for learning those situations. I don't believe in the mind having an absolute plateau. As long as you work hard, are dedicated, and have the right oppurtunities you can take it as high as you want to. Mottfia
  22. spinnerbait and buzzbait Mottfia
  23. Now thats funny But for real great fish! Mottfia
  24. on a positive note, If you can catch fish that well with this guy getting under your skin, imagine the damage you'll do with a good partner. You have my props on that! Mottfia
  25. Good fish. What are you catching em on that late? Mottfia
