  3. Hey Guys, I got to put in a few hours practice with my brother and partner today on the Alabama Rvier We were getting ready for an afternoon tournament in two weeks and had a pretty good day. Things started off a little slow. We had blue bird skies, no wind, and no current. stainbed water and 90 degree surface temperature too . It was stifling hot. :-/ I made the decidion to stay local and flip trees until the current picked up. So we get to work. Having a short slow spell my partner slams a two pound LM out of an old laydown. As soon as that fish is in the boat the current turns on. OH Happy Days ;D We piddle for a few on a soapstone wall to give the fish a minute to position on the eddies. While piddling we catch a few small fish. We begin running and gunning with worms on wood and start laying into them. We spend the next 4 hours catching 2 to 2 1/2 lbers coming and going with spinnerbaits and worms. Trees or tree roots had to be involved. Depth was a none issue as most fish came shallow. It was one of those simple enjoyable days. We ended up with a 12 lb stringer. it took 13.5lb to win a few days before but rumor has it that the veterans lost a few fish so we need to improve to 15lb to stand a good chance. But its coming together Mottfia

thats insane. We fish one on the river and its holds around 15 boats. I also know of another at Lake Jordan that holds around 20 but 60 is incredible. 4 hour tournaments are a pretty good starter in my opener. Its not too long to get you frustrated if things go by and you can do better with smaller weights as you must have seen. Tho I do have to say the guys that win it are generally on fish when they get out there and are hard to beat if you haven't already found your own fish. Keep at it and everything will start to come together. Mottfia
  5. Why did Luke Clausen go straight FLW? Mottfia
  6. I complete agree with you, Fish Chris. My dad always says" I'd rather be lucky than good" but I think it always helped that he is pretty darn good to begin with. ;D Mottfia
  7. haha I have yet to be able to afford the good equipment but I agree with everyone else. I'll be honest with you. I use the good ole Ambasseduer 5500 with a lightning rod that had its tip broken off a year back as my spinnerbait rod. Why do I use it? I tell most people that I can't afford another one while in college but the truth is that I have been catching bass on that rod and reel for years and I'm just as accurate and soft as anyone I know with the blade. Its honestly all about time and practice with the equipment that makes the difference. I believe you're right Catt. A depthfinder will take you much father than a $400 rod and reel combo Mottfia
  8. I'm glad you posted this Mottfia
  9. Winter ;D No competition and four pound spots everywhere Mottfia
  10. it can be hard to tell but here's a good general rule to follow Active fish = burning on top. If you see fish popping the top its hard to be a blade up high. Neutral and inactive fish= slow roll. This is what I use most the time and is a good safe bet. I suggest that you experiment and add some crazy action. Also clearer water requires a faster retrieve but the lure is normally just high in the water column not traveling real fast. Just hold the rod tip high. If you have any out balde question feel free to pm me. Good Luck Mottfia
  11. Yea I do it all the time and I don't suggest it..EVER lol Jk but for real its not healthy. I have a few techniques I can't throw because of doing that (wacky rig)...but then again I would have never gotten good jig fishing without taking that approach. I would suggest using a lure off and on when you think the fish are on or when you ahve them located. No reason to push the issue. 10" worm should be dynamite. good luck Mottfia
  12. Man thats a great catch! Congrats! ;D Mottfia
  13. I agree with the guy above ;D Mottfia
  14. I'll say this. I was surpirsed when The Elite series show actually had Alton Jones and Ike telling about the locations that fished and why the fish were there. Thats a big step up in my book. Mottfia
  15. let me come cross a 9 lber and have someone call it a 6 and we'll see what i do. Probably just laugh it off. My word is that if you have a scale Great! If not, still Great! You caught a big fish. Mottfia
  16. Hey Guys, I'm looking for to get a pair of sun glasses for around $100 or so. What do yall recommend? Mottfia

  19. Lately I have been loading up on catfish. I caught a twenty pound giant a month ago along with four other cats. I have also caught bream, skipjack, shad, gar, bowfin....can I stop now :-/ Mottfia
  20. I can completely believe it. I know that he uses DD22s and I'm sure that he uses a ton of other brands. he just pushes Strike King cause well they pay him. I would do the same. but the different cranks have different actions and depths so a different brand maybe have a quality that KVD needed at that moment Mottfia
  21. when that time of year comes go flip a few rocks in the water or search a stream to see what you find. You might be surprised at how much they simply blend in with their surroundings. That alone could give you an idea on how they might look. But then again nothing beats see em up close Mottfia
  22. Spinnerbaits, any softplastic pitching lures and jigs, square billed crankbaits....well better question what do you like to fish cause it probably will work Mottfia
  23. great post by Big Phish. Thats pretty smart thinking Just a quick word. if they are feeding on small panfish, why not throw something that emulates that. Mottfia
