  1. I use 'em and have been since they came out. I dont like them so much around grass but there's not much grass in my home lake so it's not a big issue. I like the fact that when I have a fish hooked and it's got the bigger hook sunk in, 99% of the time that fish does not get off.
  2. Yeah, BassWest is a good mag. I'm about as far away from the west coast as you can get but I enjoy reading BW. It's always loaded with good stuff from front to back. Lots of articles about current techniques as well as a bunch of tournament coverage (I'd read tournament reports 24-7 if I could ;D ). I'll be looking for Bucca's article.
  3. Glad to hear everything is ok! Congrats again!
  4. The shaky head will get you some bites on Smith Mtn, no doubt about it. A lot of those fish were also bed fish. I think almost everybody was catching spawners except for KVD. He was throwing swimbaits, shaky heads, jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, you name it. He recognized that the shad spawn was on and capitalized on something that nobody else paid much attention to because of the bass spawn going on at the time. KVD was fishing for actively feeding fish while the others were plucking bucks off the beds. That was one of the tournaments that KVD's pure fishing ability and decision making really shined through. He took the situation at hand one step further than anyone else was willing to go and he carried home the big $$.
  5. Yeah, this whole situation is mind boggling. From what I've read about the guy over the past 2 days, he's been under the shadow of suspicion for a long time but had always either passed the poly's or nobody came forward with solid proof to bust him out. Have there been any charges filed against him yet? I guess thats the next move everybody is waiting to see.
  6. Roanoke is no different. The place has about 15 windows available but only 4 windows open. :-?
  7. Congrats AJ! Post some pics when you can. My Gambler is still for sale....come and get it.
  8. NewAngler, whats your opinion on the coaching situation in DC?
  9. The tasteless stuff is not and will not be tolerated. That has not changed. We're glad you're here dreamnbig...carry on.
  10. See what happens when slider head goes on vacation! Where you at slider? ;D

  12. Traditionally? After many many years of fishing cold fronts, finesse fishing a little deeper is what works the best for me on the lakes I fish. It's not wrong at all, it's what works for me. I have found that the fish generally dont respond to the bigger power fishing presentations as well as a finesse type bait/presentation after a front. Thats why I start with finesse stuff. I eliminate things that dont work well (power) and get straight to the action (finesse). ...and Mottfia, no offense man.
  13. The Z Flat is my favorite. Nice tight shimmy, small profile. Second favorite is the E2.....a certified killer around shallow brush.
  14. I'm all for power-fishing but after a cold front I think the finesse approach is the way to go most times. Thats what I will try first and I will be fishing a little deeper than normal. I also like to fish bluff banks (or just deeper banks in general) after a cold front. Fish that reside deep all year dont seem to be affected as much by a front and a deep bluff bite can be very dependable during that time.
  15. I just lip 'em the regular way, then I hold them up as high as I can but for some reason, their tails always seem to still drag the ground.

  17. The CBR843 is one of my favorite Loomis rods. I throw mid-depth cranks with it as well as some shallow runners and I feel like it's probably the best crankin' rod you can buy for those size baits. There's not much the rod won't do but I'd get the MH if you plan to throw stuff out of the recommended weight range of the 843 on a regular basis. As you guessed, the 843 is a little light for deep divers, at least in my opinion. I use a 7'6" fiberglass rod for the deep baits.
  18. Go ahead and get the GLX Shaky Head rod. That way you'll just skip right over buying the regular SHR, using it and having to sell it to get the GLX. You know you want the GLX.
  19. Fluorocarbon is all I use on it and for what it's worth, I couldn't tell a big difference between the two in the casting dept. although I really didnt pay much attention because both did well. What I'm saying is, I would've noticed if the recoils hampered the distance, but I didnt notice that.
  20. I have the GLX SHR822S. It is one bad a** rod. It's the best spinning rod I've ever owned, used, handled, etc....I bought the regular SHR822S first and it left a little to be desired. Although it was a good rod, I didnt feel like it was any better than comparable spinning rods in the sensitivity dept. It was not what I expected at all, so I sold it. I then bought the GLX version and the difference between the two was night and day. The GLX is lighter and about 10 times more sensitive. The recoil guides on the GLX blank is an awesome combination. I'd spend the extra dough on a GLX vs. a Loomis specialty blank rod any day of the week.
  21. If I heard correctly, next year is an uncapped year in the NFL. The owners will be able to spend whatever they want to get players. I dont think Dan Snyder will have much problem throwing a little money around. Heck, with the uncapped season, the Skins could be the early pick to win the Super Bowl next year, riding Snyder's wallet to the title.

The o line offense has issues but I think Norv Turner is the real problem in SD. Some people aren't big Marty Schottenheimer fans but in my opinion, if they hadn't made that boneheaded move getting rid of Marty, the Chargers would've won a SB by now. Norv Turner clearly wasn't/isn't the answer. Marty is 10x a better coach than Norv will ever be.
  24. I agree Paul, good stuff here...and congrats Mottfia!
  25. I dont remember deleting any of those myself but if they took on a political slant, they probably did get deleted by one of us.
