  1. Flip it with a beaver bait, this does a decent job at catching them, depends if they are holding to the bottom or cruising around though.
  2. Welcome! Best thing you can ever use to catch fish is a senko, or similar worms. I say this because you have little kids and the skills needed to fish it properly are very low. Last week for fun I tied a senko under a bobber and pulled out a 10 inch bass. And then this past weekend my buddy placed top ten in a tournament solely using a senko to catch the fish.
  3. I have been hearing the same thing from multiple people. Even if yous see them some people suggest it is much tougher to get them to bite now because they have an abundance of gobies to eat.
  4. It just boosts your confidence so high that its all you want to fish. I have the same problem, I will be fishing one thing but after 20-30 casts I switch to a senko because I know it will catch a fish. So the other baits are not getting nearly enough attention. So what I do is I will go out and not bring any senkos and just fish, that way there is no temptation to use it and it forces me to use other things and learn something new.
  5. This is my favorite way to fish. The morning will be top water. Then spinnerbait, and if the fish aren't very active, you go with 1/2 oz tungsten flippin weight and flip a beaver all day. Let it drop to the bottom give it a few pops, then repeat.
  6. I work at a boat launch, It is ridiculous how bad someone could mess up backing a trailer in. There are people who take 15-20 minutes to get there boat in the water and then 15-20 minutes to take it back out. The best was when one guy forgot to trim his motor up and ripped off half of his prop, or the guy who had an axle break on the trailer. And then there's the people who complain about people taking so long, but then they take twice as long.
  7. Isn't that the truth, I was thinking of doing this with my dads boat, but the mess of wires is unbelievable. Half of which go no where. This is why when I buy my first boat it has to be factory new. This way I know exactly what every wire is doing, where it is going, and when something doesn't work right I know exactly where to go.
  8. Wow. Each one of those fish would be a once in a lifetime for me. I did a fly in to northern Quebec, biggest pike was ~10 pounds. That is simply amazing.
  9. Is this because of our earthquake? It shouldn't, I don't see how it could affect the fish
  10. He does this for a living, its like watching a baseball player pitch a fastball. Why does it go so fast, because he has practiced it.
  11. Welcome! Rochester and the surrounding area is blessed with absolutely phenomenal fishing. Whether you are able to take a boat out or if you just walk the banks there is an abundance of spots to fish. Hope your season is going well!
  12. Sure does, Melts spro frog legs together into some rubber mess. Maybe you can get a cheap rod/reel that you can use after work and save the good stuff for other days
  13. Pop-R, they love to hit on the pause. Just do this early morning over a weed bed in the 8-12ft range.
  14. Whats the preferred cranking battery brand and size? The one from my boat won't hold a charge so I have been using a deep cell battery to turn the engine over.
  15. Biggest one is the plug, or as I have seen on a Bill Dance blooper don't forget to unstrap the boat from the trailer.
  16. I am going to be headed out to port bay this weekend to look for some smallies. My father has been having luck with largemouth just off the dock, he'll fish for twenty minutes and bring in 3-4 fish.
  17. Alright tried the lake for about 5 minutes, my boat isnt the best in any waves over a foot so we headed back into the bay and just beat the bank. Maybe when it is a bit calmer I can go search for some stuff to fish
  18. K well couldnt make it out today, my friend couldnt get off of work and I dont have a trailer hitch on my truck yet. Anyways for electronics I have a Humminbird 727
  19. How are they this time of year? I am headed out tomorrow maybe catch them in prespawn, water temperatures are between 59-62. Gonna go out of Irondequoit Bay and try some water in 8-12ft. This is really my first time trying lake Ontario for smallmouth, probably my first real trip where I will go look for them so we'll see if I have any luck. If this fails I'll just head back to the bay and go after some LMB. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
  20. Shoot forgot about this sale till you reminded me, and then after the order found out I am broke now :-/. Good thing pay day is the week after this sale!
  21. Fireline braid for sure. I used power pro once and it seemed too stiff for me. Suffix would be a close second.
  22. Haha as soon as I typed it in the subject I thought the same thing.
  23. What hook size do you normally use for the beaver style baits, like the 4.25" wally craw from * or the sweet beaver. I was thinking a 3/0 EWG gammy hook.
  24. Most everything in new york is low. I cant even get the boat hoist out deep enough on port bay to hold my boat. And I heard the St. Lawrence was low, one of my friends parents could barely get there big cruiser out.
