  1. Just fish your strengths, I went out one day with a boater and he was set on burning spinnerbaits along weed edges. At the time spinnerbaits were not my strength so I decided just to flip the weeds all day, after about an hour my co angle had his limit and I had one fish, I just stuck with flipping and by the end of the day I had caught over 10 2 pounders and ended the day with 13 pounds and beat my boater by two pounds. So just stick with what your strength is and just fish it like you want to.
  2. Camping and bring a huge pack of hot dogs, you can find a 35 pack of hot dogs for $6, That'll feed you for awhile, being at college thats what I have been eating for a few weeks now, that and some ramen. At the camp grounds there is often a little shop and theyll have microwaves to cook your food. Also to save on ice freeze a bunch of 2 liters, they last awhile and then you dont have to pay for drinking water.
  3. Daredevils, catch plenty of bass and pike will hit them like none other.
  4. I strictly used suffix for a few years, but found tried some of the fireline braid and its great. However I still prefer suffix for spinning outfits because it feels a bit thinner.
  5. Upstate like plattsburg? or upstate like buffalo?
  6. Ok checked through the wires and just cleaned them a bit and put them back on nice an snug. Works fine now. Thanks for the help guys!
  7. Well the battery did start the engine, and we just charged the battery fully. So I would believe it is getting 12 volts
  8. Ok so got the boat out from storage, suprisingly started up in the driveway in about 3 seconds of turning over. So I was pretty happy, but went to put the motor up and the trim just makes a clicking sound. Not really sure how these things work so any help would be appreciated. Thanks -Dylan
  9. Terrible stuff. Use suffix or fireline braid, my favorites by far.
  10. Oneida lake was a blast when I fished it last year. Just flipped 5-8ft weed beds. Topwater and spinnerbaits were hot in the morning, lots of fun
  11. Avid was nice, but I wasn't fond of the handle (power hump). I do like the shimano crucials though, you can find them around $150
  12. I remember when I was a kid my dad had the wordens flat fish with the four treble hooks on them. Two on the front and two on the back. I found the flat fish but they no longer come with the four treble hooks. Does anyone know where I would be able to find the connector?
  13. glad to see juggernaut is now gone...
  14. I just used a bilge pump also, it worked great. just run a tube around the top and cut a few holes in it so that it has some pressure. If it is really hot out use some ice. Mine wasn't even a cooler just a big plastic bin and it worked good enough.
  15. Humminbirds are very user friendly. And the 565 as a great screen high vertical pixels, higher than the x96.
  16. Lake Ontario points, with a spinnerbait.
  17. 1000 Should be fine. When do you plan to use 110 yards at once? I think it is nice cause you have to replace it more often which keeps the line fresh. Also it is significantly lighter than a 2500 sized reel. If you wait for the new Stradics to come out they would only be $60 more than the one offered at TW and you could choose your 2500 and still only be around 7 ounces.
  18. Hmmm well then glad no coast guard has stopped me lol.
  19. Learn to be versatile, especially if you are going as a non boater. I think it is almost required to be able to use both set ups. Everything can be done using either set up, but many techniques are steered towards either baitcasting or spinning, and you should match it to maximize the potential. For Non-Boaters you are sent to where ever your partner is going. If my strongest fishing type its drop shot, I can almost guarantee my boater will be in slop all day long. Thats just the way it works. So if you can be versatile and be able to use most baits and have them work for you than you will be much better off.
  20. I think if you don't have a gas engine on it, registration is not needed. Look into that online, but I am pretty sure thats the way it is.
  21. I have seen many of the small bass raiders in those ponds. I think its electric only so you should be fine. As for bay fishing, right at the launch on the irondequoit side to the north, if you take a right there are a bunch of docks and some heavy weed cover. That spot is usually good for a big fish. Also one cove (not sure where exactly) has trees over hanging all around it, this is good for a few decent fish 2-3 lbs. And up next to the bridge if you are facing south, on the right there is a little marina, in there has shown some nice fish as well. I got to all these spots in a canoe so you should be fine with oars.
  22. To a point. If we are just looking at stats to find the best than it wouldnt be to hard, KVD. Best percentage to be in the top ten, 37.4% of tournaments he will place in the top ten. Rick Clunn is only at 28.7%. Wins just show how you did amongst that group of competitors. I could go out and win all my club tournaments and my stats would be the best, for that club. But if I join another club and fish the same lakes but finish in last all the time then it shows my stats were just based on the competitors.
  23. You guys forgot Ish Monroe. Easily the most informative angler available on the elite series. But in all seriousness Bill Dance is really high in my book, the way he still teaches. And when he was in Bassmaster for 'A day on the lake' he did pretty good. Roland Marten lost all credibility with his pocket rocket fisherman. I think KVD shines so much now because of the media and the increase in fan base. You can show as many stats as you would like about people, stats are just that; stats. They show how well an angler did against the significantly greater than the past. Its all just going to remain a mystery as to whose the best.
  24. Well a few of those things can be eliminated. Load balance was the same because I just took the old motor off and put on the newer one. Transom height was the same cause it was the same boat. The fuel for both the engines was all purchased at the same time. So I am thinking it is most likely because the engine is much newer (a 2003 compared to a early 70's). I was just thinking shaft length might make a difference because the prop was deeper down.
  25. On outboards is a short shaft or long shaft better? I have a 14ft row boat that had an older 9.9 on it and the top speed was 8 with two people, gear, two batteries and a front deck. The motor was a short shaft. When I went to my cottage we own a long shaft 9.9 merc which is significantly newer. With two people three batteries and 6 gallons of gas the same boat went 13.5 on gps. I was wondering if the increased speed is due to the newer motor or because it has a longer shaft? Thanks -Dylan
