  1. Youtube server is down right now. But go there and search Bub Tosh or paycheck baits. He does a tutorial that should give you an idea on how to peg weights weather you use a punch skirt or not.
  2. Took the words out of my mouth.
  3. The post was well written. I do not have a problem reading longer posts like this. You painted the whole picture. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Why? Because bass are bass and they do what they want to do. Makes you wonder how many times that bite has been there before? Last year I saw a tournament won on top water in December. I am not saying go out and work a spook all winter. But a top water bite can happen year round (unless your lakes freeze). Even in cold temps there are days bass feed actively and they will move a long way for the right presentation.

Deep crankin is all about the DD22 and the Spro DD little john.
  6. *** is on of my favorite places. My suggestion is to wait for a holliday if you can. They have killer sales.
  7. Never heard of him until now. I think he was a little before my time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits_Gresham
  8. I use Markey and Plano big bait boxes. I find them to be equally effective. There are a couple of different options. One holds baits 8in and larger and the other holds two rows of 6in or smaller baits. The one thing I have done is I change out the hooks and put in snaps.
  9. I knew I would forget a few the mission fish is killer. I have not fished any of Ty's baits but I met him in Jan and he seems like a stand up guy. His baits look good to.
  10. I figured since there are a few guys here that want to break into swimbaits I would put a list together of quality baits that produce, by reputable companies who stand behind their product, that I have used(for the most part), you can throw on a flipping stick and that will not break the bank($25 or less). Some of the traditional swimbait guys would feel that some of these baits are to small to be called swimbaits but I believe they all have there place. 1.OP Minnow, A good wake bait is a must. 2.Huddleston Deluxe 6". The 8" will require more than a flippin stick. 3.Black Dog Injected lunker punker 6". You can find the blemished wood version also for $25 or less but they weigh more and should be thrown on a bigger rod. 4.Black Dog Mini Shell Cracker. I have not thrown this, but have thrown the original version and expect great things. 5.Mattlures Bluegill series,Ultimate Bluegill, Baby Bass, Perch and new Trout bait. I have not thrown the Trout or the Perch but if they are half as good as the others they will catch fish. 6.Osprey, I have fished the line through models and they have been good baits. 7.Spro BBZ 1 JR. and the BBZ 1 Shad. What can I say Bill has made a killer baits that catch fish. I am sure there are some out there that I have missed. Anyone that would like to add to the list please do so.
  11. One of the most important things I forgot to add is will the company stand behind the product if there are issues.
  12. Nice looking fish. There will be many more to follow. Is that a floating bait or sinking? What ROF options do they offer. I am not to familiar with H2O baits. Keep us updated on how it holds up. That is an amazing price if its not a piece of junk. You have to fish it for a while to really determine the quality. You know... does the paint hold up, does it crack easy if you hit something? Will it handle the weight of a good fish? Most quality swimbaits range from $20 to $50
  13. The question was posed to Bill Siemantel and Mike Jones (the coauthor of the BBZ). If there is one thing I should know about throwing swimbaits what is it? The answer: When not to throw them. What Siemantel advocates is not letting the weather, the moon phase or any other condition dictate weather or not you go fishing. I do not think he rules out the effect a particular condition can have. The BBZ motto is everything matters yet nothing matters. The more you fish big baits the more you will see big fish defy traditional thinking. They get big for a reason.
  14. In a down market or in a booming market someone is always making money.
  15. I am glad to see some positive response on the topic. My intention was not to high jack the other thread. I just saw you asking questions that I asked myself before I started throwing big baits and the two Bills as I call them have changed the way I fish and think about fishing. I just want to share what I have learned. If you take the red pill your fishing world will change as you know it. By the way I have to give Mattlures a little plug. You have top notch customer service and that ultimate gill is a killer bait (bed fish hate it). I can't wait to try out your new trout bait.
  16. You have the dedication, hard work and time on the water part right. Experience is the cornerstone. By saying traditional tactics I am thinking you mean lures. Are jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and so on... not big fish baits? I think you are seeing this in the wrong light. Lures are TOOLS much like a mechanic has different tools for different applications. Location, Location, Location...There are certain places big fish relate to. If I asked you to find me someone who is rich and you do not know the area, the most logical place to search is where rich people live. In prime locations, on top of a hill, the beach, a river front etc... you may find someone who is rich in the ghetto but the chances are not as great. So by eliminating transitional areas and focusing on prime locations (points, humps, ridges and creek channels) you drastically increase your chances of a big fish. Last but not least is presentation- Boat position, fishing up hill, directional changes, cadence and where are the fish active in the water column top, middle, bottom. Then make the proper Tool/bait selection for the application. Good things come to those who wait http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=big+bass+zone&x
  17. How was the five star summit? I am curious how it was? I am Just a little farther north than you in Vallejo, CA. I had to learn shortsales. I had no other options. I was to new in the business and REO companies shot me down. They wanted two years experience. Now I have a little bit of everything. But shortsales are an untapped resource and still my bread and butter. We were one of the worst markets in the country... At one point 92% of our inventory was bank owned, 6% shortsale and 2% normal sales (if you consider probate normal). Nationwide they are predicting another 6 million foreclosures this year. This ride is far from over in my opinion. I would not be surprised to see prices fall again. Especially on the high end. An asset manager from B of A said they are getting ready to release aprox 60,000 REO's over the next few months. The shadow inventory is huge. As far as the year of the shortsale... I agree... except its is going to be the years of the shortsale. This is going to last another 3 years minimum in the residential sector without intervention. There are a ton of things to consider... Is there a such thing as a jobless recovery? Is unemployment going to go on the rise again? not to mention the commercial market is just getting started. How will that effect the economy? Will there be another extension to the tax credit? Will they renew the debt relief act or expand on it? How long until interest rates rise? They cannot remain artificially low forever. When will inflation bear its ugly face? The list goes on...I think we are still on uncertain ground. I wish I had a crystal ball. Now that I have made it sound like the world will end in 2012... with hardship comes opportunity. First time buyers can actually afford to buy and are given incentive to do so through tax credits and low interest rates. Investors can purchase properties that cash flow and the ones with cash are really making out. Interesting times.
  18. Offline Gadsden, Alabama Gender: male I think interesting things would be learned. Detailed logs would have to be kept for the full benefit. You would definitely see big fish patterns emerge. There is a learning curve to everything. How long did you fish a jig or a crank etc... before your results had any kind of consistency? Its all the same there are no magic bullets. It takes time on the water. Bill and his partner Troy Linder are studs. They consistently put up big weights. Bill is like the Tony Gwynn of fishing he consistently puts up big numbers, is in the hall of fame and somehow flys under the radar. Google Bill and troy you will see what mean. Here is a recent win. Mike Jones cracks me up he says it how it is. http://kramergonefishing.com/2010/02/28/more-of-the-same-at-dvl-51-pounds-wins/#more-6648
  19. The primary purpose for putting sent (lube) on a swimbait is... it lubes the bait. When a big fish gets a bait in its crushers you can swing for the fences and actually move the fish without getting a good hook up. I use megastrike myself but any lube with the consistency of vasoline will work.
  20. The stripers I have caught on live bait just load the rod up. You can usually tell your about to get bit because the bait becomes very active.
  21. I have not posted here for a while but I had to get in on this one...RoLo said it best "How about, numbers of BIG bass." Why not? If you truly adopt what Bill teaches... the way you look at fishing will change forever. The BBZ is not just about throwing big baits (the greatest counter part is finesse)... its a state of mind that applies to all fishing. Its not thinking outside the box... its eliminating the box all together. The answer is yes. Big baits pretty much work everywhere. Why would a jig work in dirty water but a swimbait that displaces 3 or 4 times the water not work? Trout are not the only fish bass eat that reach lengths of 8,10,12 inches. For one bass eat other bass. Make The Big Bass Zone your bible read it and re-read it and most important apply it. The other must have book is Bill Murphys How to catch giant bass.
  22. If your feet are dry when you take off your boots then you need better boots. If sweat is the problem then a good pair of socks that wick moisture should help. If that does not work use spray on anti persperant. This did the trick for me. I got the idea out of an old field and stream issue.
