  2. I agree for reading this is one of the best if not the best resource I have found. As for joining a club that is a great place to learn. I believe that fishing with people better than you accelerates the learning curve big time. Combine what you learn here with what you learn in a club and you will be amazed how fast you learn. 8-)
  3. Welcome
  4. Nice fish! I have not had luck on a frog yet this year. A few blow ups on a spook and A/C minnow but I cant wait for a good frog bite.
  5. Act like your going salmon fishing. ;D
  6. I use the drag only. With all the modern reels I see no need to back reel. They are smooth and very effective. I have landed several fish over 100lbs and there is no way you could ever keep up with them trying to back reel. I know these are not bass but the point I am making is the reels are designed for it.
  7. Medium 7ft xps rod and a pflueger presidente spinning reel. 12lb test florocarbon. I have no trouble with hook-ups. This was the first combo I have ever bought and I love it. I usually buy the rod and reel separate because combos never seem to match but these two were made for each other. 8-)
  8. The directions on mega strike are to apply small amount down the sides of your worm.
  9. Good point Wayne I have a tendency to assume people are using the right gear. I remember how it was when I started. A fishing pole is a fishing pole right? Wrong they are like tools you need the right one for the job. You dont use a hammer to drive in a screw although I guess you could. A screwdriver would be a whole lot more functional. This might be your friends problem, wrong tool for the job.
  10. Just happend the other day. Had a guy pull in right on top of us(30ft away) and stopped leaving the boat idling while he tied up his poles. So I responded in a not so friendly manor. He didnt respond he just moved on and acted like I was the jerk. I dont let these kinda things go unspoken. Amazes me what people will do if you let them.
  11. PWE I live in the Bay Area also. What lakes are you fishing? Maybe I can help.
  12. I think it changes day to day and is never absolute. I have had good and bad jig bites when its cloudy. I remember a day a few years ago where the sun would go behind the clouds and all I could get them to hit was a crank bait. As soon as the sun popped out they would not hit the crank bait but would hit a jig. I notice you said you caught a few on a spinner bait. Did you try swimming your jig?
  13. welcome

    hey!!! hey!!!
  15. Thats my thought keep the line tight and the rod down. If you do a search I think there were some posts that have addressed this recently and had some good info.
  16. Amazing 8-)
  17. Are there any weed beds Jhawk? If so try the deep edges. One thing I have had luck with is useing a drop shot with the hook tied farther up the line than normal to suspend the worm just above the weeds. I do not fish many places like what you are describing. Any change in bottom type is what I would look for.
  18. If the fish was 26'' I would have to say at least 8lbs.
  19. Thanks Glenn I really dig these interviews.
  20. I agree with go deeper. Most of my bigger fish are coming from 10-25ft on humps, rock piles and long extended points that most people pass up. One of the spots I have been fishing is a bought 500yards off the shore line on the main body of the lake. Its a rock pile that just comes out of no where. This is a place in the past I would have never thought to fish.
  21. another good technique is to cast out by the bed let your bait settle and walk away free spool. Wait a few min and then work the bait back. If you can see them they can see you. A drop shot can work good for this to twitch it in place.
