  1. Or check out the Strike King Burner model spinner bait - It's made to be presented in just that manner - Not the answer to everything but sometimes it really turns them on. When it does, it's a bit of work but a Ton of Fun . . . A-Jay
  2. Use down sized willow blades, make a longer cast and BURN THAT THING as Fast as you can , . . . . . and hold on ! No trailer but definitely use a trailer hook. A-Jay

  8. The are a few different ways to effectively work a fluke. However, a constant retrieve is routinely not one of them. A stop & go presentation derived with a small number of short rod twitches is usually where the magic happens. Do not do the constant retrieve. Work the fluke with a twitch & pause action. Be sure to wait at least a second or two (and usually 3 or 4) before the next few twitches and you'll find that the rolling & line twist will be gone and more importantly, if you're fishing in the right place & conditions, you'll catch a few bass. Good Luck A-Jay

Yea - that's creative Not really my style but could be a good ice breaker at parties. A-Jay
  13. Generally, bass in less than 5 feet of water, unless they are relating closely to cover, are usually on the bottom or very close to it. Depending on the bass's mood, water temp & clarity, as well as the horizontal speed of an angler's presentation, bass have been know to travel at least 5 feet to strike a bait. So you could expect some action with any bottom contact presentation in the situation. A-Jay
  14. The discussions revolving around the characteristics and benefits (or lack there of) of Fluorocarbon line have gone round & round and will no doubt continue to do so. The proponents of the line often relay information describing how having one of the better / higher quality fluorocarbons is a good way to help ensure an angler actually gets the best it has to offer; Getting what you pay for. Detractors, which I am one, are not impressed with what the line has to offer. Being able to get the same or better results with a good mono offers little reason to "Upgrade" to Fluorocarbon. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. A-Jay .
  15. Besides often being the first time of the season that I get out on the water, part of what makes Pre-spawn fishing fun is that the bass are often fairly cooperative. This doesn't mean completely predictable however. As mentioned here already, the effective baits / presentations can be all over the place from one day or week to the next. Generally speaking, I'm having decent success when & if I'm able to get bit on some kind of Horizontal presentation. Doesn't really matter what it is; could be a lipless, squarebill or mid-depth crankbait; could be a chatter or spinner bait as well. This doesn't mean that when the Vertical bite is on that it's any less productive. Quite on the contrary. Days when the tube, or jig & craw or even the drops shot bite is hot, the action can be fast and furious - in a cool spring time day fishing kind of way. Chasing the fish around the lake seems to be the biggest challenge both spring & fall for me. A-Jay
  16. X2 ~ The networks have started playing a new game with the few programs I do watch. They are starting them early & running them late - meaning not on the half or full hour. So my DVR setting require a manual adjustment rather than using the automatic deal. I'm not that committed - so they just lost a viewer - A-Jay
  17. Tons of great options presented so far. A bait that gets little fan fair but has worked for me in this situation many times is the Rapala Sub walk. When bass seem unwilling to commit to traditional surface offerings and a regular jerkbait is clearly going under the bait & the bass, being able to present a lure with a walk-the-dog style technique just below the water surface (and right in their face) can be the deal. It has been especially effective on smallies, who love to chase this bait down & hammer it. I'd recommend changing out the stock trebles. That VMC dressed treble on the back has not worked for me. 20. Some wind is usually a good thing. And if I could choose a wind direction in which to fish, EAST would probably be my last choice. I don't know if it kills the fishing, but I'd say it probably doesn't make it better. A-Jay

  23. When the water temps are less than 50 degrees, later in the afternoon seems better for me. Warmer than 50 or so, it seems to start earlier and end a little later. Even into the scary dark time . . . A-Jay
