  2. When lock jaw comes on - I pick something I really like to fish, put my head down and go to work. Even if the bass don't cooperate, at least I'm enjoying the presentation. btw - it's often a jig & craw - has good big fish potential and it only takes I good one to save the day. A-Jay
  3. Being on the water without any Life Jackets is like jumping out of a plane without a parachute. Demise is close and with each passing moment, it's getting closer. A-Jay
  4. We get one life. We are extremely fortunate to have been born in a country where we have the freedom to do many things. How we choose to exercise that freedom is an individual choice. Being satisfied & content with the path we take goes a long way. Money is often a means to an end. Think big picture. A-Jay
  5. The 6th Sense S n a t c h 70 FRS Lipless Crankbait is built with a (FRS) Faint Rattle System. It's considerably less rattle than a traditional bait and a one-knocker. Makes it a good choice when you want one step up from silent. A-Jay
  6. An outing to remember - however I do believe you'd say it's for the wrong reasons. Nice Bass in the pic, and your somewhat dissatisfied facial expression says it all. Those kind of trips really motivate me to return to the scene of the crime(s). Fishing the big baits did draw some big fish strikes for you. You'll be back. A-Jay

  12. Totally a personal preference deal. I think I'm sort of old school in that I look at my fishing gear as "tools" So bright colors are generally a turn off for me. Just like a bright Orange Hammer or a Green Crescent Wrench. They'd work fine, but I just would not enjoy using them. A-Jay
  13. First Bass of the Year & a New PB Now That's the way to start the year. Besides, PB's are Always a Blast Congrats A-Jay
  14. A few factors have to come into play here for me. The bass need to be at their heaviest, they need to be eating, and they need to be accessible: which usually mean shallow but not always. Most of that happens during pre-spawn and again in the fall of the year. Now provided I can find them and can offer something they'll chew up - I stand a decent chance. However, I had some great mid-summer night spinnerbait bites, had some decent weight throwing a frog mid-day in July, along with several fat stringers throwing a blade bait right before ice-up. I've done pretty good fishing deep docks and even had a few hefty Drop-shot bags in August. So, I guess it can happen several times a year. I just have to be at the right place at the right time - doing the right thing. A-Jay
  15. Probably not going to damage your rod & reel, however, launching the leader knot through the reel line guide over & over can most certainly reduce the integrity of your connection knot. This also happen to a somewhat lesser extent as the knot passes through the rod guides. Reducing the leader length some so that it doesn't get wound onto the reel on the cast can help. Also retying that knot Before it fails will save you a massive backlash as well as possibly prevent lost baits & fish. A-Jay
  16. That's good to hear - Good Luck on the water A-Jay

  19. Since this is your first boat you are getting the "education" that comes along with it - like it or not. And you've already invested a decent amount of both time & $$, each time there is a new problem, you've come to realized that there is a good chance you'll be shelling out even more of both. At this point it's going to be fairly difficult if not impossible to diagnose what the problem is with your O/B over the internet. But just like any engine, the cooling system is designed to be a closed system. Your O/B has only 1 designated discharge point. If you are seeing something else it may be time to take it to a professional if you don't have the knowledge & skill to do it yourself. Might me minor might not. Good Luck A-Jay
  20. A Classic for sure. Spalding Smails: I want a hamburger... no, a cheeseburger. I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake... Judge Smails: You'll get nothing, and like it. A-Jay
  21. There are few things as positive or reliable in bass fishing as setting the hook with jig when using braid. It's Solid. And once you do it, and if you like it, it's awfully hard to get away from it and especially difficult to recommend anything else. A-Jay
  22. I was a Caddy for a few summers as a boy - It was OK, but I never got the bug. Seemed strange - hammer the ball as hard & far as you can . . . .and then go chase it ? The fishing around the courses was good though . . . . A-Jay
  23. The previous thread posted (copied) above covers this topic well and I enjoyed reading it. I'll offer this; if an angler believes in the "invisible" properties of Fluorocarbon line / leader & using Baits that "Mimic" something that the fish feed on to at the very least illicit a strike, adding unnatural sounds to the environment one is obviously trying so hard imitate, seems counter productive. We've all caught our fair share of suicidal bass, but if your objective is locate & land the bigger fish - you really can't go wrong with keeping "the Noise" down to a minimum. Each angler may have his/her own idea what that means and how far they prefer to take it. I fish some small waters where I seem to have better results on the above average bass by disturbing the environment a little as possible. A-Jay
