  1. As long as there is open water - I'll have some kind of crank bait tied on. A-Jay
  2. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/155513-lipless-cranks-year-round/?p=1751690 A-Jay
  3. You can use a pair of needle nose pliers. Slip the skirt / band onto the end of the pliers and carefully open it up sufficiently to slide it into position over the rattle and behind the jighead. The other option is to tie the skirts onto the jig yourself. A-Jay
  4. I'm going to try this. Just went through my gear & I have what I need, I think any way. There are a few spots I fish where the brown bass can get a little extra fickle, if that's possible. This little gem might be just what the Dr ordered. We'll see. I'll post my results but I'm expecting some surprised Bronze to end up in the net . . . . A-Jay
  5. X2 ~ A couple of my favorite & most productive bass lakes are the same - stocked trout lakes. And I also relive the same scenario many times a season - and it always makes smile. A-Jay
  6. 14 April ~ 6th Sense Crush Flat 75X Squarebill Crankbait A-Jay
  7. Great Looking Bass ~ PB's are Always a Blast. Congrats A-Jay
  8. Nice Job Hootie ~ Had some success with tubes myself this week. But be very careful - you almost smiled right there. You don't want us to think you're having fun do you ? A-Jay
  9. Do You Like Fluorocarbon Line ? Nope. Especially as a Leader - Mono works perfectly. A-Jay
  10. Use a leader and you'll be able to part it a whole easier if you get hung up. Also - here's a Free One . . . . . . Instead of Texas rigging your plastics on this lake, which on the fall will always put your baits down between the logs on the bottom and hang up, try rigging your worms, craws, creatures or whatever plastic you're fishing, on a weighted swimbait hook. ( Think 10 inch Power worms - did I just say that?) Start with 1/4 ounce and go up or down depending on the depth & the rate of fall you want. Lighter is better here. Your presentations may take a little longer to get to the bottom but they'll glide over and around the logs rather than plunging down between them and getting hung up. May save you some rigs & still get you some Fatties . . . Good Luck. A-Jay
  11. Nice video & Great Bass ! She was a Tank - a Gorgeous TANK. What lure were you fishing there ? You seemed to be retrieving it fairly quickly. Congrats A-Jay
  12. Braided line helps quite a bit. Try the same rig with mono and see what you think. A-Jay
  13. Great Bass Paul ~ Interesting account as well. I'm sure she'll pass on those good genes in your friend's new pond. Congrats. A-Jay
  14. Pretty fish. Congrats A-Jay
  15. First off - why are you getting hung up a lot ? Fallen logs are easily fished with the right bait & presentation. One of my favorite type of big fish cover. Figure this out and you'll probably be able to stick with the line you're using. A-Jay
  16. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I use lipless baits all year - Different presentation & in different locations but they work for me. The Original Rat-L-Trap works OK but I do prefer the SK Red Eye Shad - has a killer shimmy on the fall. A-Jay
  17. Big Fan of Smallies on the Fly Right here. Have a couple of places that have a wide open Mayfly Hatch - and the Fatties go nuts. Best part is I'm right there waiting for them . . . Good Times. A-Jay
  18. Float coats are nice - I lived in one spring & fall for a long time. It was a Mustang. Had two, the Classic Float Coat (down over the hips) and then during boarding's, the Bomber Style for gun belt & weapons access. Stayed toasty warm - usually. A-Jay
  19. Nice fish - especially for here in Michigan. I'm not guessing. A-Jay
  20. Here you go J ~ HYPOTHERMIA IN WATERLoss of body heat to the water, is a major cause of deaths in boating accidents. Often the cause of death is listed as drowning; but, often the primary cause is hypothermia. It should also be noted that alcohol lowers the body temperature around two to three degrees by dilating the blood vessels. Do not drink alcohol around cold water. The following chart shows the effects of hypothermia in water: WATER TEMPERATURE / EXHAUSTION / SURVIVAL TIME 32.5 degrees............................Under 15 min........Under 15 TO 45 min. 32.5 to 40................................15 to 30 min.........30 to 90 min. 40 to 50...................................30 to 60 min.........1 to 3 hrs. 50 to 60...................................1 to 2 hrs..............1 to 6 hrs. 60 to 70...................................2 to 7 hrs..............2 to 40 hrs. 70 to 80...................................3 to 12 hrs............3 hrs. to indefinite Over 80...................................Indefinite...............Indefinite PFD's (personal flotation devices / better known as life jackets) can increase survival time because of the insulating value they provide. In water less than 50 degrees you should wear a wet suit or dry suit to protect more of the body. SOME POINTS TO REMEMBER: While in the water, do not attempt to swim unless to reach nearby safety. Unnecessary swimming increases the rate of body heat loss. Keep your head out of the water. This will increase your survival time. Keep a positive attitude about your rescue. This will increase your chances of survival. If there is more than one person in the water, huddling is recommended. Always wear your PFD. It won't help if you don't have it on. A-Jay
  21. This site has a ton of articles covering just about everything including lipless crank baits like the Rat-L-Trap. Here's a link to one ~ http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/Rat-L-Trap.html There is also more info found at the bottom of this article. A-Jay
  22. Fair enough. I will say that choosing to not wear a Life Jacket because you do not know anyone who has ever needed one is an extremely naïve perspective. After three decades of Search & Recue, I've met plenty. Some of them rode home in a big Black Bag. A-Jay
  23. Many a good man has traveled down this Mysterious & Ominous path, some made it half way, some went a little further; but No One has been able to go All The Way. I have tried many times and failed miserably every time - It was Ugly. So I say it Just Can't be done. Now, if I Think I'll need it, I bring it. Good Luck to you. A-Jay
  24. Berkley Big Game Green 12lb is a good inexpensive line. Especially while still fairly new. At $9 bucks for 1175yd - you can change it out often. Best bet right there money wise. A-Jay
  25. Hello Andy and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ A-Jay
