Is 30Lb Braid Overkill
10 - 20 lb braid is what's on the spinning reels for most of my bass fishing. The 30 lb goes on casting reels. A-Jay

Tube Info. Needed
PROvider Tackle makes a bite size 3.5 inch tube that has been very good for me for several years now. The "Performance Series" baits really shine in the clear waters I fish. Btw, the Performance Series tube heads have 2/0 Owner hooks on 1/8-1/4oz. and 3/0 Owner hooks on 3/8-3/4oz.. These hooks are STRONG. With a "hooked" barb, you'll find better hook ups. Lower profile hooks are used for the benefit of cutting through grass better and less hang ups on rocks. A-Jay http://www.providertackle.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=66_70

Are Ultra Realistic Crankbait Finishes Unneeded?
The places I fish that have clear water & good visibility, I think the fish are relying on sight quite a bit. On these lakes I seem to have better action with lures that do resemble the resident bait in them by having a similar color pattern, even at night. Accurate Perch, Bluegill and Crayfish patterns have earned the right to the first fished. Places where the visibility is reduced, the color pattern doesn't seem to matter as much. Sometimes a plain white bait is like magic. A-Jay

Fisherman's Trash
Like many of us the feeling I get arriving to a spot I like to find a mess makes me angry & disappointed. I recommend using the time & effort to simply clean up the areas you feel need it. When an area looks uncared for chances are it will remain that way or get worse. A cleaner spot may reduce but probably not eliminate the acts of the selfish & lazy. I carry a few trash bags in the truck so I can pick up what I can. I particularly enjoy doing it right in front of other humans who may already be there and doing nothing about it. It really get's interesting when the refuse is obviously from them. A-Jay

Favorite Lures
I love to Chunk & Wind so it stands to reason that crankbaits are at the top of the list for me. Lipless & Square bills specifically. Frogs & Jigs are fun too - one you can see and the other you can't but they are fished in a similar fashion, slow. However, I would be remiss if I didn't give Honorable mention to ~ The Scrounger. How To Maximize Hookups When Setting Hook On Plastics
For weightless Flukes & worms (and many other presentations) I like the Owner Wide Gap Plus Black Chrome Hooks as well as the Lazer Trokar MagWorm Hook - both are EWG. For LIne; it's hard to beat braided line for shear hook setting power. I like Sufix 832 & Power Pro but there are several other good ones out there. Also, I don't "Wait" after bite detection - by the time I actually feel the bass - there's a good chance the fish has already had the bait for at least a second or two. So I take up any slack and set the hook as soon as I can. Lastly, the best way I know to keep a bass from ejecting my offering before I can detect & strike the fish is to be sure to use a little Megastrike Fish Attractant - I think it really helps and can be the difference between a solid hook up and the dreaded Swing & Miss. I hate that. A-Jay

First Three Days Of 2015 Season
I spent three days out on a couple of different lakes this first week of the MI C & R bass season. It sure felt good to get back out on the water and putting a few bass in the net always makes me smile. Two days on one lake and the third on another. The water color & clarity difference will give it away as to which one is which. The ice went out on each a couple of days before I fished them. Water temps were averaging in the mid-forties and the fish certainly acted it. I had success on a squarebill, lipless crank, and a jig & craw on the first lake; and then light lining a tube on the second produced fish. Late afternoon was best. Starting out this year with a new video set up (Garmin Virb) and I’m still working on the editing deal. Seems it takes as long to edit these as it does to catch the bass. I’m hoping to get better with time. Forecast for the next few days is calling for rain and I hate to say it, snow – so I’ll have to wait a bit before getting back at it. https://youtu.be/R3yiIYPWCow A-Jay
