Line Preference On Spinning Reels
The more I think about these "which line is best " threads, the more I believe that it's like asking "Which brand of gas and what octane is best to use in my vehicle ?" They all work but everyone has a favorite which often revolves around performance & price. A-Jay

Spinnerbait Trailers
My use of a spinner bait trailer depends on how I'm fishing the spinnerbait. If it's low & slow I'll usually have a trailer, paddle tail or grub. If I'm burning the bait, not trailer. Fishing it at night - always a paddle tail trailer. A-Jay

What's This New Rig Called The Drop Shot?
Once you learn how to do it , and it's actually a fairly short learning curve, you'll be adding a technique that can save your day more than once. I've had days smallmouth fishing when using a drop shot was like using Live Bait. I don't fish it every trip, but during day time trips in summer especially, I almost always have one rigged up. A-Jay

Fish Finder Or No Fish Finder?
Agreed. After you've owned one and become proficient with it, the confidence developed from that will make Any fishing trip Without one feel like you are fishing BLIND. You'll see. A-Jay

Local Weather
First off, I hope your Mom is OK. After years on both salt & sweet water, I have come to believe that one needs to be able to "Interpret" a weather forecast to actually benefit from it. It's a very tricky proposition but it can be done. I use the following guides lines to assist me in this most challenging venture. Whenever the forecast includes some wind, whatever the numeric value predicted - one simply ADDS 25 to 50% to it. Often times simply multiply this figure by 2 comes close to reality. Whenever the forecast includes rain & wind, expect it to start several hours earlier than predicted, be much heavier than forecasted (and will most likely include Lightning) and last for at least one full day longer than expected. This Winter has definitely supported my findings that tripling the snow totals forecasted simply MUST be standard procedure. Finally, "Partly Cloudy", "Partly Sunny", "Slightly Overcast", "Scattered Showers", " Mist in the Morning", "Snow Flurries", "Snow Showers", "Some Fog Possible" & all of this type of completely ambiguous prediction, must all be translated into the following: "I honestly have no clue regarding today's weather. Your guess is as good as mine, except they paid me." And there you have it - A-Jay

Swim Jig Trailers - What Dictates Choice ?
I first started throwing a swim jig a few years ago. Began with a single tail grub either GYBC or zoom. Both worked well. Over time I gained some confidence with the swim jig and started experimenting with various trailers. I found a single tail grub works All the time but may shine early in the season, especially on smallmouth bass. A paddle tail swim bait worked and seem to take a little bigger bass. I use the RI Little Dipper in 1/4 & 3/8 baits and the Skinny Dipper and Havoc Grass Pig on 1/2 swim jigs. This larger profile swim jig has been very good for me during low light early & late and very good at night. I have caught bass using a craw type trailer, but I do not use this configuration very often. The few times I do it - a SK Rage Craw if the choice. A-Jay
