Sinkers On Hard Baits
Storm Suspend dots and suspend strips have been around for a while now. They are specifically designed to add weight to a bait without affecting the action. There is an art to it and it comes with quite a bit of trial & error, but it works well. In fact this is how the first "suspending" jerkbaits came about. http://www.*.com/Storm-SuspenDots-p/storm-suspenddots.htm http://www.*.com/Storm-Suspend-Strips-p/storm-suspendstrips.htm A-Jay

Gimmick Lures
How about The A-Rig ? Though I was familiar with this style of "lure" as it applied to salt water trolling, I had a pretty low level of confidence that the bait would catch bass. Having major tournaments ban the bait in short order does speak to the presentations effectiveness. After throwing it the first time I really thought it was wacky . . . .Speaking of a wacky rig, the first time you saw that rig and before you used it, who thought this one was anything close to the fish getter it has turned out to be ? So "Gimmick" could just be a frame of mind. A-Jay

What Is The Best Round Reel Under $350?
Yup - I read that as well. Nice article. There comes a point when using certain tackle in a technique specific manner, (in this case mid to deep cranking) that the majority of the baits used have a fairly similar weight / configuration. Meaning once set up, the need to be inside the reel again rarely arises. But it is nice having the option to do so. A-Jay

What Is The Best Round Reel Under $350?
The Calcutta D series is a very high quality product line. Small & compact the reel excels is everything it's designed to do. Clearly not the cheapest unit on the market, the reason for the difference in price in this case is blatantly apparent. I use them on my travel rods. It just makes no sense to take anything else on the trip of a life time. A-Jay

Where Is The Next World-Record Going To Be Caught?
Perhaps, and the brown one might come from Lake Simcoe. Serious Brutes seems to be a common occurrence lately from that place. A-Jay

Lake Nockamixon Fish Habitat Structures
I have never fished this particular body of water. But after some years of angling and being realistic regarding human behavior, I'll add this. The ability to "research" the places we fish is no doubt helpful, in many ways. However, in this case, it's not. The maps that display sub-surface cover (with exact coordinates mind you) might as well be putting up a big sign that says FISH HERE. They are making it very easy - so anglers who don't have the time to look for spots on their own (or don't want to) Will fish them - all of them, every trip. Count on it. This will change how the fish act there - especially bigger fish - usually the better fish will avoid the Intrusion. Instead I'd recommend using your ability to research lakes to help find a healthy fertile eco system with a good balance of bait and bass. Then look for your season spots as directed by contours, structure, funnels and prevailing wind direction and make a plan of attack. Next get out on the water and put that plan into action. This is what the anglers that make that "Milk Run" to hit all the publicized spots don't or are unwilling to do. This is a great way to help fuel your enthusiasm with the right kind of knowledge. Learning how to do this can and usually will enable you to fish all types of places, whether they are popular or not. I really do prefer fishing places that offer very restricted access or have no popularity at all. Neither of these things have any bearing on what the bass population is - I'll find that out myself. And that is one of the things I love most about this sport. Finally, some of my local waters have spots that are, lets say "local Knowledge", and I do fish them occasionally. But without fail, any "good" fish I get off these spots, are Taken At Night. Good Luck A-Jay

Measurements Or Weight?
I start out with a length measurement and then decide if a weight is in order. Bass over 20 inches (both Brown & Green) almost always get weighed. Depending on girth, the weights can & do vary greatly. Even after doing it this way for a while now, the expected pre measurement weight rarely actually meets or exceeds the true post measurement weight. Imagine that. A-Jay
