Hello Artie and Thank You for your service. Welcome to BR ~ A-Jay USCG(Ret)
  2. My Biggest Accomplishment in Bass Fishing (and all my fishing in general) happened quite a few years ago. It was when I realized that what I Really Love about the sport has less to do with catching lots of fish and Much More to do with the enjoying the outdoors, the belief that the learning is endless, and the friendships. 3. I thread the craw type trailer on the hook so that the plastic fills up the hook all the way to the base of the jig. The trailer length is important for a few reasons.. Sometimes a larger (whole bait) size trailer will get a bigger bite. The size of the trailer (and Type) can fine tune fall rate. I do pinch off the end a bit at times to present a more compact offering. Something that is often over looked when using a craw and you want the legs to flap on the fall unencumbered, ensure your trailers position is such that it's not brushing up against the shirt material. You can either trim the skirt or leave the trailer of sufficient length to be forward enough to clear the skirt. At times, this is a game changer. If you're looking for a very compact bait with more of a gliding action, then having a very short trailer (right up in the skirt) works well. A-Jay

  9. I routinely up size the trebles on my bass baits by one. I prefer the Mustad KVD Elite's short shank jobs. However fishing for musky & bass at the same time & with the same gear can be problematic. The sheer size difference between the two is probably the biggest challenge (not to mention the Teeth). Although modifying bass lures to fish for muskies can work, you may reduce your chances of catching either one a bit by going half way. There are several lakes here that have Big pike and in the spring & fall they are often right in the same spots as the bass. Each year I manage to land a few but often times I don't. Tied of getting bit & broken off, I up scaled some of my bass tackle to combat this. This sounded good but in reality, I did not catch or land more pike but I did reduce my bass catching substantially. Eventually I scrapped the whole idea. When I want to fish for big pike, I have tackle & baits for it and that's what I use. Thinking about it the other way, I would not feel very confident fishing for bass with modified pike tackle. Good Luck A-Jay

  12. September 14, 2014 marks The 200th Anniversary of The Star-Spangled Banner As Francis Scott Key watched the smoke clear and the sun rise above Baltimore’s Fort McHenry after witnessing its bombardment by British naval ships during the final months of the War of 1812, he had every expectation of seeing a white flag of surrender. To his surprise, he saw the tattered, but still flying, remains of an oversized American flag that had been commissioned just months earlier by the fort’s commander Major George Armistead. Key was so moved by the by sight of the flag and by the Americans’ protection of their fort that he penned the poem “Defence of Fort M’Henry.” That poem, eventually set to music and renamed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” became the national anthem of the United States of America. 13. Nice Job ~ Now I guess the next portion of this discussion usually revolves around how long the fish can safely be out of the water / live well. A-Jay
  14. What is the application you'll be using this hook for ? The standard Gamakatsu Offset EWG Worm Hooks are about the thinnest wire ewg hook I use. I'll use them effectively with an assortment of small plastics on spinning gear and 8 - 10 lb line. I also routinely use the 2/0 size when drop shotting with 10 lb line with very good results. The only hook I'll use that's of a thinner wire construction is a straight shank finesse hook I'll use split-shotting a small trick worm. A-Jay
  15. Cool ~ Do they come more than 1 size, I could only find 1/4 ounce ? A-Jay
  16. Doesn't matter what I think. The man's actions and the results will be judged according to the current Texas Laws. The Mandatory Reporting Requirements make it unlawful not to report it. 17. In my world - spinnerbaits (just like cranks) MUST run Straight & True. I feel quite a bit less confident in the baits ability to get bit if they do not. Supplemental Info: I do a good bit of night time spinnerbait fishing. I've had nights were the bite was very good and my spinnerbait was being crushed routinely. After a 3 or 4 lb smallie the bait almost always needs at least some adjustment to run right. In my hast to get out the next cast, sometimes I would make the adjustment without testing the bait in the water to see if it's running true. When it's not running "straight" the fish rarely hit it - even at night. I hate using my light if I can help it but now I'll bite the bullet and use the red lens head lamp in the water to check it. These results may not be typical and your results may vary. A-Jay
  18. Yup ~ LMAO . . . . I was going to say once my casts start to bounce . . . . . A-Jay
  19. That's a Classic ~ Should we frame this one ? So Dwight, I guess routinely catching 30 pound bags of brown bass gets you No Respect here At All. Nice. A-Jay
  20. I'm a big fan of white - the blades and the bait. Call it white on white and I prefer to BURN IT - Fast. I use a heavier spinnerbait, usually 3/4 ounce or so. I put undersized single or double white willow leaf blades on it, a quality trailer hook and use a high speed casting reel loaded with 30 or 40 lb braid. During the mid to late summer, and even early fall, on wind blow points and big flat near deep water on clear water lakes, I'll burn this bait just under the surface. Smallies will race up and Blast it ! It's fun. I can get lmb on it as well going over shallow weed just have to slow it down a little, still relatively quick just not as fast as the smb like it. 25. Yup ~ In fact I've Been Out Sick since 2007 I am inflicted with something called Bassaholism - perhaps you're heard of it. The is no know cure - so I'll take this one to the dirt. A-Jay
